~OBITUARY~ Thelma Maxine Graham Weatherd
Thelma Maxine Graham Weatherd, 91, of Darlington, Mis souri, entered Heaven on her 91st birthday on September 29, 2022. She was born on September 29, 1931, on a farm outside of Darlington, Missouri to Lee Merle and Maggie Ellen Graham. She grew up with two brothers, George, and Marvin, and two sisters, Vonnie and Fern and she was the youngest. Her family called her Max, and her husband called her Macky. She grew up in a family that worked hard and laughed often, and every one loved music and played by ear. She played the piano but was too shy to let anyone hear how gifted she was. Truthfully, she didn’t enjoy milking six cows every morning before school, but she did it because it needed to be done. She used to joke that she was a pony express rider because, when the roads were too muddy to deliver mail, the mailman paid her a dollar to deliver the mail to her neighbors on horseback.
She grew up during the great depression but luckily, she was young enough not to know how bad times were. She was part of the generation that is often called the greatest generation because they survived the great depression, won World War II, and went on to create the baby boom generation and the strongest economy the world has ever seen.
The world has changed greatly during her lifetime. Her first school bus was a team of horses and wagon, and her first school was a one room schoolhouse that is now a museum. In 1949, she graduated from Stanberry High School. Following High School, she worked as a telephone operator and plucking chickens in a meat processing plant. On December 11, 1950, she married Billy Rex Weatherd, the love of her life, and remained married for 62 years until his death in 2013. In 1951 and 1952, she lived in Fort Lewis Washington, where her husband was stationed in the army before he was sent to Korea during the war. Their first child, Carol Ann, was born in Fort Lewis Washington and Maxine and Carol moved back to Gentry County when her husband was sent to Korea. Her husband returned from the war, and from 1954 to 1961, they had six more children, Marilyn, Sherri, Linda, Bill, Ellen, and Tammy. She had her first child at age 20 and last child at age 29, and she referred to this period as her roaring twenties.
In 1959, Maxine moved to the Kansas City area, first Muncie then Olathe when her husband became a steel worker at Griffen Wheel Company. She devoted her time to being a wife and mother. She loved holidays and made sure everyone had cake and ice cream on their birthday and every holiday was properly celebrated.
These were good times and sometimes hard times and she more than endured. Once her children were in school, in the late 1960s, she worked at a clothing manufacturer and Sunflower Ammunition Factory. Due to health issues, she quit working and had open heart surgery in 1972. In the 70s, she welcomed a foster child, Steve, into her home and raised him as her own.
In 1994, she returned to Gentry County, to live on the Weatherd Family Farm where she spent the remainder of her life.
Maxine devoted her life to her faith and her family. Throughout her life, she loved to gather her family together for special occasions and everyday events. She had six grandchildren, Danielle, Jeremy, Chrissy, Jenny, Lisa, and Melissa and nine great-grandchildren, Cody, Dylan, Faith, Tess, Gabrielle, Lexi, Dexter, Stuart, and Zoe.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband, as well as her son, Billy Ray, and her granddaughter, Danielle Louise.
Maxine was at the homestead when she went home to be with the Lord on her 91st birthday, September 29, 2022. Even when her health was failing, she found pleasure in the small things like ice cream cones shared with family. That is what we will remember about her most.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Al bany, MO. Burial followed in the High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry, MO.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Thelma Maxine Weatherd Memorial Fund in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402. Online condolences: www.robersonpolleychapel.com

Charles Benjamin (Ben/Benny) Rainey May 2, 1935 - October 1, 2022
Charles Benjamin (Ben/Benny) Rainey was born on May 2, 1935, in Albany, MO where he resided most of his life. Ben was the oldest son of C.F. and Versa (Butler) Rainey. He passed away peacefully at his home in Albany on October 1, 2022.
Ben is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Wharton) Rainey, and three sons, Rick Rainey, address unknown; Matt Rain ey (Debbi) of Elmo, MO; and Trent Rainey (Kirsten) of Centennial, Colorado. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Jeremy McGinley (Rose), St. Joseph, MO; Jacob McGinley, career military presently serving in Europe; Jessica McCoy (Matt), Brown ing, MO; Monica Rainey (Tyler), Saltville, VA; Lauren Rainey, Los Angeles, CA; Claire
Rainey, Playa Del Rey, CA; and Samantha Weese (David), Silver Bay, MN; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters: Carolyn Premer, George Ann Seymour (Larry), Peggy Beach, Ramona Caswell (Kevin), Glynis Nelson (Donovan) and two brothers, Ted Rainey (Carlene) and C.F. Rainey (Nicole); sister-in-law, Betty Rainey; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and children, Randy Rainey, Renee McGinley, grandson, Jared Rainey, brother, Donald Rainey and brother-in-law, Jim Premer.
Ben attended Albany R-III School graduating in 1953 and has re mained close and kept in touch with many of his classmates through the years.
Ben enjoyed many hours fishing on Grand River and the Lake of the Ozarks with his brothers and brother-in-law, Jim Premer. Because of their dedication and determination, these guys provided the fish for an annual fish fry at Hopewell Baptist Church and many family gatherings. After retirement and as age slowed his activity from going up and down the river and lake banks, Ben spent hours on the croquet court and en joyed playing cards and other board games.
Ben held many jobs throughout his life, and he often said, “I’ve had a multitude of jobs and there’s not a job I didn’t love – it’s the work I hated.” He ran a newspaper route, shined shoes, and began his adult employ ment history at a young age by sorting bottles at the Albany Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, where his father was part owner. He moved up from bottle sorter to route manager before his retirement from Pepsi in 1992. He served Gentry County as Sheriff for one term between 1969-1972, served as pastor at Hopewell Baptist Church near Weatherby, MO for about 20 years, and was employed by three area funeral homes in later years. Ben was a “people person” who thoroughly enjoyed visiting with and making friends all over northwest Missouri and southern Iowa. There were few places that the family traveled throughout the United States that Ben didn’t run into someone he knew.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Albany First Baptist Church.
Memorial gifts may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Albany First Baptist Church in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402.

Joyce Lucille Whitaker
Joyce Lucille (O’Neil) Whitaker was born in Cainsville, Missouri on Au gust 21, 1946, the second child and only daughter of Buster and Esther (Mc Querry) O’Neil went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2022, at the age of 76. Joyce attended Oakland Country School near Cainsville, grades first through third and graduated from Cainsville R-I School in 1964.
On June 7, 1969, Joyce was united in marriage to John Clifford Whitaker. They are the parents of one daughter, Brandi Jo.
Joyce and John lived in Marshall, Missouri for three years but spent the rest of their married life in Albany. Joyce worked at the Farmers State Bank in Princeton for five years, the Marshall State Bank in Marshall for three years and the Gentry County Bank in Albany for sixteen years and retired from the State of Missouri Department of Social Services on November 30, 2011, after 15 years of service.
Growing up with three brothers, Joyce was used to practical jokes and always lots of family fun. She loved going mushroom hunting and fishing with her Dad, Grandpa Jack, and her brothers. Winter nights were spent playing Chinese checkers, dominoes, lots of fun and noise. She loved her mom’s cooking and used her many handed down recipes all her married life.
Joyce loved her home in Albany and also loved her country home when she and John moved to the country in 1998. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening and canning or freezing what John grew in their garden. She loved family “get togethers” with brothers and their families, aunts, uncles, and cousins. When her husband, John, decided to run for public office in 1984, Joyce helped him campaign, knocking on almost every door in Gentry County and was proud when he won that election, holding the office for 24 years.
Joyce was so proud of their daughter Brandi and her many accomplishments. Another great delight in her life in later years was her granddaughter Erin, it was like seeing Brandi grow up all over again.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Larry Lane O’Neil and Leland (Chub) O’Neil.
Survivors include her husband, John of the home; daughter, Brandi Jo Whitaker (Larry Duncan), Parkville, MO; granddaughter, Erin, Parkville,

17:20, “I
not pray
alone,
also for those who will believe in Me through their word) Here in the 17th chapter of the book of John we read part three of ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. This is Jesus praying for you and I. Think about it, Jesus is beginning his min istry as the only intercessor in prayer between God the father and those who believe. If you think about it; when we pos sess these qualities in life nothing else really matters. There are times in life when financial, medical, emotional or separation anxiety seem to make life unbearable, but God has already made provision for the situation to be a living example of faith. How does a person handle the loss of a loved one? Go to God in prayer in Jesus’s name and He will allow us to look beyond the loss and treasure those precious memories with the knowledge we will one day join those of faith in that heavenly choir. If you think about it life is like the traditional wedding vow, ‘For better for worse, for Richer or poorer, in Sickness or health. This is when the gift of Jesus comes in as we go through life experiencing the good, and the not
