Pastor Bill Bracken His crucifixion Jesus is sharing with his disciples a word of comfort hope that they not be left alone even though He will no longer be with them in the flesh. This helper is that which will be given to those who believe 50 days after the Passover, Jesus’ crucifixion or 10 days after Jesus ascends into the clouds as He enters into His position at the right hand of God almighty as our intercessor in prayer. Jesus tells us that it is for our benefit that He goes away as the Holy Spirit will not come unless He enters back into that from which He came, Heaven. This is one of the scriptures where we see evidence of the triune aspect of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Another place we see reference to the trinity is after the Baptism of Jesus by his cousin ‘John the Baptist’ when Jesus rose out of the water and the Holy Spirit descended on Him as a dove while a voice was heard from heaven saying, “This is my beloved son of whom I am well pleased”. This Holy Spirit will be the essence of God that empowers believers in Jesus Christ to live in God’s righteousness in the here and now. The birth of the Church would be on Pentecost Sunday when the Holy Spirit would be poured out upon the group of faithful who were patiently waiting in prayer. The Church age will end with prophecy: (2 Thess. 2:7, For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.) When true believing Christians are taken out with the Holy Spirit the Anti-Christ will be revealed. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is another threesome. (John 16:8-11, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.)
