Public Opinion Meeting Scheduled to Review County Floodplain Maps

The Gentry County Commission will host a public information meeting for the proposed Floodplain maps developed for Gentry County on Monday, August 18 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Gentry County Courthouse, 220 W. Clay St. in Albany. All interested citizens of Gentry County are invited to attend. Gentry County is susceptible to many types of natural hazards. Recent floods have affected surrounding communities, history, and the economy. Floodplain planning and mapping is the process of devising strategies to lessen the impact, or in some instances, eliminate the damages associated with these potential floodplains. By gathering this information the areas in Gentry County near the floodplain will have a better understanding of what information is out there to help in the future. Currently, the maps are in a public comment period and your opinion matters. The State Emergency Management Agency will have an expert present at the meeting to speak about the maps and gather public input. Please plan to attend to assist in confirming the accuracy of the proposed maps.
