Margaret Carolyn “Connie” Stevens, age 89, Grant City, Missouri died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Orilla’s Way Residential Care Facility in Grant City. Connie was born January 11, 1933, near Ridgeway, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Norvia Ray “Josh” and Florence Beulah (Melton) Craig. As a young girl they moved near Mount Moriah and later moved to Bethany where Connie graduated from high school. Connie accepted Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at the age of 12 in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church. She was currently a member of the Grant City Baptist Church. In high school, Connie was in Glee Club, enjoyed art, and was a starting member of the volleyball team which was Grand River Conference Champions her Junior and Senior years. Her hobbies included reading, poetry, crocheting, sewing, baking, cooking, playing the piano and tap dancing. In the fall of 1948, she met Darrell “Steve” Stevens. They were united in marriage on November 11, 1949, at her aunt’s home in Laredo, Missouri. To this union four children were born, Steven Craig, Lisa Paulette, Edward Darrell and Eric Brian. Darrell and Connie moved to Denver in 1950 where they started a small farming operation raising Jersey cows. They moved to Grant City in 1974 where she currently resided. In May of 1979, Connie took the postal exam, after which she became Postal Clerk at New Hampton. Connie also served as Postmaster at Darlington and Gentry, Missouri. She retired after 15 years with the postal service. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell, son Craig, grandson William, two sisters Norma Jeanne Middleton, and Nina Woodward. Her survivors include daughter Lisa (Clay) McNair, Maryville; sons: Ed (Kim) Stevens, Parkville, Missouri, Eric (Jana) Stevens, Kearney, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Amanda Dykman, Jennifer (Mike) Frederick, Michaela McNair, Zachary, Cole, Jacob, Madisyn and Caleb Stevens; 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann (George) Frazier, Bethany, Missouri; and a host of other friends and loved ones. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Andrews-Hann Funeral Home, Grant City, Missouri. Burial was in the Miller Cemetery, Denver, Missouri. Memorials may be made to Miller Cemetery or the American Diabetes Association.

Please pick up vendor forms and market regulations at Bookworm Bargains or Pansy Patch Quilt Studio on the north side of the square.

FROM MAY 5TH TO AUGUST 18TH, 2022 The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches (John 5:41-44, I do not receive honor from men. But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?) Here in the 5th chapter of the Gospel of John Jesus is speaking to the religious leaders of the day concerning the who, why and what is their reason for being. Jesus said, ‘If another comes in his own name, him you will receive’. This is, sad to say the foundation of many denominations. I’ve been asked many times over the years what our church believes. I respond with, ‘The Bible’, Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21. Their response is often, ‘No, what denomination are you affiliated with’? We believe the entire Holy Bible of which God is continually revealing Himself as the ‘Living Word’ that became and continues to become flesh. (2 Tim 3:16, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.) The all-scripture part is a game changer for a lot of folks who regularly attend a social gathering along with other good people in an uplifting spiritual environment. I’m quite disappointed at the amount of Biblical ignorance that has pervaded the modern church. Albeit God said it would happen. (Amos 8:11, “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord.) Sad to say many denominations are built on the phrases of men and cleverly devised fables as predicted in, (2 Tim 4:4, they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.) If our faith is not rooted and grounded in the Holy Word of God, then what hope have we in the eternal? Ask yourself how much time you devote to faithfully reading God’s word daily? Could you tell someone where to find the Ten Commandments? In Jesus... Pastor Bill Bracken

She was the daughter of the late Oliver and Stella Crockett. She grew up on her family’s farm near Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1951. In July 1953 she married Donald Parman, her high school sweetheart. In 1966 she moved to West Lafayette, Indiana when her husband joined the History Department at Purdue University. Nadyne was pre-deceased by seven siblings: Olen, Ralph, Robert, Eldon, Thelma, Arlene and Ruth. A service for Nadyne was held at the First United Methodist Church of West Lafayette on July 5th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the Donald L. and Nadyne J. Parman Indiana Challenge Match Scholarship at the Purdue Foundation, 4023 West Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
