the presence of the Lord.) As we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ his very essence will fill our being with a sense of peace that can be summed up as an overflowing sense of awe. As we continue along reading the account of creation: (Genesis 1:26, And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness) Now comes a juncture in nature that connects the Old Testament to the New. It has been said that the Old Testament is concealed in the new while the new is revealed in the Old. The connecting verse is: (John 1:1, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.) Genesis tells us that God spoke and that which was created was created yet God was not alone as Man was created in ‘their image’; as Jesus would say: (John 17:5, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.) Jesus Christ, the one who descended from the eternal to the temporal accomplishing that which he was sent, and now seated at the right of God the Father waiting to hear your voice.

The Calvary Stanberry & Island City Christian Churches (Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God created) The first ‘5’ words of the Bible are all it takes for one to believe all the words contained within. Here, from the KJV is the beginning of a 66-book compilation that begins at Genesis 1:1 and ends with Revelation 22:21. (The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.) Now back to the beginning to how we as mortals can stand firm in faith with the God of creation and His word by believing and accepting without exception or argument the ‘1’st ‘5’ words of this incredible text. When we accept the Word of God without doubting all the rest will eventually bring about an epiphany. You know, that ‘Ah Ha’ moment when we’ve read the same verses, sentences and paragraphs growing spiritually while traveling along our journey of faith when that light bulb suddenly gets switched on. Such are these times as we are told: (Acts 3:19, Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from

loved and supported. We also appreciate your condolences and fond recollections at her passing. The calls, cards, thoughtful notes, prayers, flowers & food were deeply appreciated.

We would like to specifically acknowledge the care and attention of the doctors, specialists and staff of the University of Kansas Cancer Center, the doctors and employees of Mosaic Medical Center in Albany, especially the Outpatient staff & wound care team; and Dr. Angelia Martin. Mom trusted your care, and we knew that she was in good hands. We have so much gratitude for the team of caregivers from Three Rivers Hospice. Everyone assigned to her was so attentive and kind. We are indebted to her personal nurse, Heather, who cared for Mom with such tenderness. The love and concern Mom received under your watch will forever be remembered and appreciated.

Huge thanks to so many friends who watched out for Mom and made her feel so loved. Many thanks to Todd Martin & Carl Owens, who made visits, texts and calls nearly every day; Fred & Kathy Conner, Barb Axon & Tab Siddens who were willing and always ready to help her with her needs; Bishop David Peterson; the Relief Society sisters who provided a meal after the visitation, church and temple friends for on-going support; Bruce & Karen Nail of The Peddler’s Post in Bethany for assisting mom with business after Dad’s passing; and Perry & Susan Phillips who loved Mom and were a support to her and to our family in countless ways. She really had so many friends and family who reached out consistently, and for that, we are so grateful. We would also like to acknowledge our sincere appreciation to Roberson-Polley Funeral Home for your special considerations, care and attention to detail. Carolyn loved living in Gentry County. She was proud to be born and raised in Stanberry & loved living among friends in Albany. To be with so many of you, her friends, as we celebrated her life, brought us comfort and peace.

May Heavenly Father bless your lives as you have blessed ours.

~OBITUARY~ CAROLYN SUE (PHILLIPS) MESSNER

“Motherhood is near to divinity. It is the highest, holiest service to be assumed by mankind. It places her who honors its holy calling and service next to the angels.”

- Heber J. Grant

Carolyn Sue (Phillips) Messner was born on January 17, 1943 in Stanberry, Missouri to Carl Gene & Rosella Maxine (Duley) Phillips. The firstborn child and only daughter, she was a natural-born care giver to her 3 younger brothers. Throughout her life, she was lov ingly referred to as “Sue” by her parents, brothers, and close family.

While attending Stanberry High School, Carolyn was a cheerlead er, participated in class leadership and in school drama productions, was a member of the concert band playing percussion and she loved being the drum majorette for the marching band. The greatest mem ory for Carolyn was falling in love with her high school sweetheart, Leon. She graduated in 1961 and the two married in September of the same year.

Carolyn learned stories about Jesus as a little girl at the knee of her mother, attending the First Baptist Church in Stanberry as a child. In 1963, Carolyn was baptized a member of The Church

JANUARY 17, 1943 v APRIL 9, 2024 of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the Relief Society and Primary organizations throughout her life as President, Counselor, Secretary & teacher, embracing opportunities to minister to others. She was filled with faith and love for her Savior. Her days were complete with prayers and discipleship for others.

On November 24, 1987, she and Leon were sealed for time and all eternity in the Chicago Illinois Temple. It was a joyous day for her to know that she had made covenants that would bind her to her family forever. She and Leon later served many years in the Winter Quarters Nebraska Temple and then in the Kansas City Missouri Temple. Their weekly temple assignments were filled with joy in service and numerous eternal friendships with fellow temple workers.

Throughout her life, Carolyn was employed in various capacities. She helped manage the Stanberry Tastee-Freeze owned by Leon & his mother, Thelma; worked at the cap factory in Stanberry, Old American Insurance in Albany, Hogue Lumber Company, and the University of Missouri Extension as a soil tester, then secretary under Fred Conner. She also worked as an administrative assistant to Judge Harold Davis. In 1984, Leon & Carolyn owned and operated Messner’s Flowers & Gifts. She later worked for Gentry County Memorial Hospital as a switchboard receptionist and then as a physician recruiter. She earned her Missouri Real Estate license and she and Leon owned One36 Realty together.

The “jobs” that followed her throughout life were supporting her husband on the farm and clerking sales auctioned by Leon. Hours were spent in preparation for and working each sale as well as antiquing and selling. She was a tremendous support to him. They made a great team.

In the community, Carolyn was a 4-H advisor, belonged to the Albany Chamber of Commerce, served as Albany Frontier Holidays Co-Chair with Leon for multiple years, was a member of the Albany Booster Club, supported AHS athletics and the FFA, and was a proud member of Beta-Sigma Phi, cherishing her associations with her sorority sisters for many years.

Her greatest role in life was that of wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Being undeniably devoted to those she loved, she served endlessly to make the lives of her family better. There was never a day when she didn’t put others’ needs ahead of her own.

Carolyn loved staying connected with family and would keep the generation gap narrow by sharing stories of her ancestors with her children and grandchildren, promoting a love for heritage. She demonstrated respect and compassion for her elders by continuously attending to the needs of her parents, grandparents, aunts, cousins and friends, often visiting with them and taking them goodies.

Our mom was truly a warrior, with strength beyond comprehension. Throughout her battle with cancer, she fought with grace, fortitude and dignity. Even in her darkest days of pain, she followed the example of her Savior and looked for ways to serve other people.

Carolyn passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. We are certain that her reunion with her Savior and her eternal sweetheart, Leon, was the beautiful moment she had been anticipating since their separation.

Carolyn is survived by her children: Norman (Debbie) Messner, Edwardsville, KS; Janice (Rich) Rusick, Highland, UT; Jackie (Matt) Jameson, Cameron, MO; daughter-in-law, Kerri Messner, Albany, MO,

And her grandchildren: Kourtne (Matthew), Jake (Courtney), Kyle (Sarah), Bailey (Aaron), Blayre (Andrew), Garrett (Meg), Porter, Tate, Brant, Kayce, Brenner, and Ella.

Great-Grandsons: Brooks, Drake, Beckham, Silas & Mckay.

She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lorraine Phillips, Tooele, UT; Donna Thomas, Weslaco, TX, Peggy Messner, Kansas City, MO, her aunt Mary Lois Brooke, Jefferson City, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Leon; parents, Carl & Rosella; her son, Carl; a great-granddaughter, Lyla Rusick, and her brothers, Daryl, Doyle, & Dale Phillips.

Funeral Service was held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 15 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery, Albany, Mo.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Albany or Stanberry Booster Club or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Aid Fund in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402.

~OBITUARY~ JEFFREY LYNN CONKLE SEPTEMBER 20, 1949

Mrs. Bailey at elimback@albany.k12.mo.us ALBANY, MO 64402

Jeffrey Lynn Conkle, 74 of Albany, MO passed away at his home on Sunday, April 14, 2024 following a long battle with cancer. Jeff was born in Grant City, MO on September 20,1949 to Madeline (Fletchall) Ulrich and Charles Conkle. Jeffrey graduated from Cameron High School in 1967 and completed his college degree at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. Jeff was a decorated member of the Army National Guard for 6 years and was honorably discharged from service in 1977. He served as a juvenile officer in Booneville, MO after his college graduation before relocating with his family to Albany where he worked at the Albany Regional Center until he retired in 2003.

Jeff’s greatest joy was spending time with his daughters and their families, especially the grandkids. He loved being outside, hunting, fishing, boating, doing carpentry work, and playing with the kids. Jeff enjoyed hunting in the mountains with his buddies, early morning turkey hunts and building things with Devon, watching his grandkids’ sports, teaching his boys about the great outdoors and playing school with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marla, and his daughters, Devon Ellis and Wendy (Steve) Preston, five grandchildren, T. J. Overmann, Sydney Overmann, Kylee Preston, Kayne and Alaina Ellis, mother-in-law Marilyn McClellan, sister-in-law Marlene McClellan, brothers-in-law Randy (Beth) McClellan and Rick (Deanna) McClellan, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Monica, his parents, sister Gloria Davis-Harris, niece Jennifer Sinnett, and father-in-law Glee McClellan.

Our family is grateful that Jeff is now at peace after a 3-year battle with cancer. Visitation was held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Roberson-Polley Chapel in Albany, MO. A private inurnment will be held at a later date in the Grandview Cemetery.

If you choose, memorial contributions can be made to the Albany Booster Club in care of the Roberson-Polley Chapel, 403 N. Hundley, Albany, MO 64402.

PAGE B-6 - THE NEW SHOPPER • TUESDAY, APRIL 23, 2024 PLANNING AN AUCTION? TELL YOUR AUCTIONEER YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADVERTISE YOUR AUCTION IN THE NEW SHOPPER! The journey has been long & expensive for Steven & Dantana McGinley as they embarked on the chance to have a family. Little did they know that journey would be riddled with bumps in the road which have led to distress & extreme financial downfall. Not able to conceive naturally, they spent roughly $60,000 out of pocket to pursue IVF & were finally successful in conceiving twin girls. Unfortunately, not long after, their dreams began to become more of a nightmare… at 20 weeks Dantana started pre-term labor & the doctors did a cerclage (sewing the cervix shut) to try & stop the delivery. At almost 28 weeks Dantana’s organs began to shut down & an emergency C-Section was performed on 19 July 2022. During the birth of Wrynlee (2 lbs, 9 oz) & Wruelle (2 lbs, 8 oz), Dantana began to hemorrhage & required blood & platelet transfusions while confined to the ICU & was unable to see her babies until her pulmonary edema & oxygen issues were resolved; Wrue & Wryn continued to reside in the NICU. At only 5 days old, Wryn took a downturn & started hemorrhaging from her tracheotomy; the doctors were able to turn her Code Blue into a stable situation after quick medical care & a change of vent settings. At this point, they advised Steven & Dantanya to remain close as Wryn s fight was an uphill battle. It was then discovered that Wryn had a Grade 3 brain bleed on one hemisphere & a Grade 2 on the other, which led to hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain). A shunt to drain the fluid was placed, but her stats continued to drop; it was then discovered she needed to be placed in isolation due to testing positive for meningitis. Another operation was performed to replace the infected shunt with an external drain & Wryn was placed on high-strength antibiotics. At two months of age, a crack which allowed additional bacteria to grow, was discovered in the drain & Wryn was urgently transferred to Children s Mercy for 6 additional surgeries; Wrue was not able to transferred & had to stay at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Steven & Dantana drove to KC daily to visit both girls; Wryn in CM NICU & Wrue in OPRMH NICU. At 3 1/2 month of age, Wrue was able to come home & Wryn remained in CM until 5 1/2 months of age. In October 2023 a follow-up MRI of Wryn showed her 4th ventricle, which controls breathing, was not functioning properly & she had her 9th brain surgery. Upon discharge, Wryn began vomiting within hours & returned to CM only to find she had contracted Rhino/ Entero & Covid while in the hospital. Since that time, Wryn could not take a bottle by mouth, had an NG Tube for 5 months, & in March 2024 had a G-Tube placed directly into her stomach for feeding. Wryn has since been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy & will be medically disabled for the rest of her life, but Steven & Dantana have been told that Wryn currently does not qualify for any disability benefits because Dantana still has an income. During this process with the twins, Dantana has battled some of her own health issues. When the girls were not quite 5 months old, she had to have a partial Thyroidectomy as a result of several abnormal tests; biopsies revealed she had Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. in August 0f 2023, she was instructed to cease breastfeeding, had a full Thyroidectomy, & underwent radiation treatments. She has been to the ER herself with severe pain on several occasions over the first 13 months since having the twins; her OB/GYN discovered the cerclage was still intact & needed to be removed as it was not done with the girls were delivered; she had kidney stones in her right ureter which had to be repaired & led to kidney damage/pain; & had subsequent surgeries to repair the ureter. Steven quit his job to provide necessary care for his wife & daughters as childcare was not obtainable or reasonable for babies with such special needs; Dantana has had to miss significant amounts of work with her own health issues & those of the babies. The financial situation which the McGinley s face has become so dire they have made the decision to sell their family home to try & ease the burden. The McGinley s are strong in their faith & have tried to remain positive even though they have faced more than their share of obstacles, setbacks, & bad news. A multitude of prayers are what they desire most, but any amount of financial support would be a blessing on their journey of navigating the waters with their two tiny miracles. Please plan to join us to raise funds for the McGinley’s benefit!
