Applying for an I-20 for The New School ESL Program Note: The New School ESL program is for students starting at the intermediate level. Please pay careful attention to application deadlines below! 1. You need the English as a Second Language Application form. (addresses below) • Pick application up or request from English Language Studies Or • Pick application up or request from the New School Admissions Office 2. Your English level must be approved for acceptance to our program.  If you are applying from abroad or outside the local area: Return completed ESL Application (with required writing sample for level approval) to New School Admission Office. 

If you are in the New York City area: Contact the English Language Studies Office to schedule a placement test. You need to take the placement test to get level approval.

3. I-20 Application.  If you are accepted, you will receive an official acceptance letter from New School Admission and information on how to apply for an I-20 or transfer your I20. (Note: You can only register for classes after you’ve received this acceptance letter).
