great state, we turned to the California State Flag – a symbol itself of strength, freedom, courage and honor — for inspiration. Its colors are our colors, its symbols inspire our symbols, including the beloved state bear. The bear’s strength and unyielding resistance represents the fierceness that will be exhibited by

why Fc? We set out with a mission to build an organization that is true to the world’s sport. Across the world, soccer is referred to as “football.” In keeping with the rich history and tradition of the sport, you clearly voiced a desire to adopt football club, or FC, in the official name.
2 what about the star? Two-fold in its symbolism, the star signifies first and foremost our place on the map as California’s capital. The addition of the beveled look is consistent with that of a United States general insignia – paying tribute to those that will lead and do battle for this Republic. Its color is the same as the star in the California State Flag.

In developing a name and brand for Sacramento’s new professional soccer team, it was important to empower the community in the decision. Soccer, more than any other sport, is the people’s sport. Your voice, combined with inspiring art, diligent research and a reconnection with our region’s rich history, led to an identity that is second to none.

technIcaL staFF PredraG radosavLjevIć Head Coach Radosavljević, known endearingly as “Preki,” is often cited as one of the best midfielders ever to play Major League Soccer (MLS). Competing during the first 10 season of MLS, he scored 79 goals earned 112 assists, and was named MVP twice – once in 1997 and again in 2003. Preki retired in 2005 while playing for Kansas City Wizards, and eventually went on to become the head coach of Chivas USA in 2007. He left to become head coach for Toronto FC in 2010 and in the same year was inducted as a member of the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame. Before his time in MLS, Preki competed for both Everton and Portsmouth during successful stints in Europe and played indoors for Tacoma Stars, St. Louis Storm and San Jose Grizzlies. Graham smIth Technical Director Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team as technical director for Sacramento Republic FC. Smith began his soccer career playing for England in the under 18 age group. After graduating from Loughborough University, Smith became a professional footballer, competing in over 300 games with Notts County, Colchester, West Bromwich Albion, and Cambridge United. He retired in 1976 to become the head of the Adidas public relations department, and then returned to his first love in 1985 to take on a role as the Main Board Director for Chelsea Football Club.
