Veregge will serve as the celebrity chef. With his deep roots as an experienced chef and family farmer, Jay considers his “market-basket cuisine” cooking style to be a rustic refinement of California’s farmland. Sharing the nut-inspired spotlight, a talented chef from Enloe Medical Center and Mom’s Executive Chef Ashley Hosmer also will dazzle festival attendees during special cooking demonstrations that are a crowd favorite activity at the festival each year. Make a day of it by riding the shuttle to the festival! Tour guides will be on board with local agriculture knowledge as you enjoy the scenic ride. The shuttle leaves from the transit center on West Second Street on the hour starting at 11 a.m. and returns from the Patrick Ranch on the half-hour. We also encourage you to take advantage of the bike path that runs along the Midway. Ride your bike knowing it will be secure in our bike check. Parking is limited so if you decide to drive, we encourage you to carpool; the Patrick Ranch Museum charges $3 per car. The mission of the California Nut Festival is to connect consumers and farmers, cultivate an understanding of nut production in the state and how California nuts fit into a healthy lifestyle. Proceeds are dedicated to the development of the Patrick Ranch Museum to preserve and interpret the agricultural history of the Sacramento Valley. We invite you to “go nuts” with us April 19th for a beautiful day at the Patrick Ranch Museum—close to town yet you’ll feel miles away! CNF Event photos by Paula’s PhotoArt

Once again, Laura's has moved—it's now located at 870 East Avenue, in the Walgreen's shopping center. After the death of owner Laura Brogard, for whom the shop was named, in April 2012, her daughter Kathy McClymont took the reins. Kathy is a Chico native and a mother of three who has traveled extensively while always staying abreast of the family business. Through these 50 years, Laura's Wig & Beauty Supply has continued its commitment to leading the Chico area
in the largest selection of the highest quality beauty supplies. Laura's offers over 80 different lines, including Pureology, Redken, Paul Mitchell, Tigi and more. Laura's added wigs to the business in the late '60 and has become known for its selection of styles and colors as well as its compassionate customer service. This month Laura's Wig & Beauty Supply celebrates its 50-year anniversary. Kathy and the entire staff invite you come celebrate with them.

SCHEDULE of EVENTS Sat., April 19, 11am – 4pm Tips to Maximize Your Fun Executive Chef Jay Veregge Ten22 in Old Sacramento
Having lived on a ranch his entire life, Chef Jay Veregge has a deeply rooted connection to food. His experience as a farmer—most recently of wheat, walnuts, cherries, bell peppers and tomatoes—and chef have made him a leader and driving force of Northern California’s highly successful “Farm-to-Fork” movement, now officially in its second year. Chef Jay has a passion for locally grown fruits, nuts, vegetables and proteins and considers his “market-basket cuisine” cooking style to be a rustic refinement of California’s farmland. With more than 25 years of professional experience, world-class training from the French Academy of Culinary Arts, a degree in enology and a drive for innovation, Chef Jay brings a wealth of culinary knowledge to Ten22 and the greater Sacramento area. Jay got his start training as an apprentice to Pierre Gagnier in France during the mid-’80s. Since then he has held executive chef positions in the Bay Area at The Donatello Hotel, Portobello and Tadich Grill, which received a James Beard award under his direction. He was also executive chef at Bella Fresca Restaurant in Berkeley and the Big Water Grille Restaurant in Incline Village, Nev. He opened his own restaurant Le Bistro in Lake Tahoe in the mid-’90s and later partnered on the Wolfhouse Restaurant in Sonoma, then a Michelin-rated restaurant. Recently, Chef Jay passed his Certified Beer Server test in the Cicerone Certification Program.

Patrick Ranch Museum he Patrick Ranch Museum is proud to be the host location of the 2014 California Nut Festival! Each year, the 28-acre property donated by Hester Patrick in 2001 really comes alive during this exciting event. Guests will be amazed by the changes made this year. In addition to the grand mirrors, magnificent bookcases and other unique pieces in the interior of Glenwood, guests will see the University of California Master Gardener Demonstration Garden and the Visitor Center. The exterior of the Visitor Center, which was being framed last year by the CSUC construction management class, is now complete. Fundraising efforts are underway to finish the interior, which will provide space for museum displays, an office, bathrooms and a quality museum store at a cost of $70,000. If you would like to host a fundraising event or make a donation or help with this project, please contact officeprrm@patrickranchmuseum.org. The extraordinary planned growth of our interactive agriculture museum continues. Join us in our learning opportunities including agriculture science classroom venues for students in Butte and surrounding counties; our 12th annual Country Faire and Threshing
Bee and Fine Arts Show on June 7 & 8; Sierra Oro Trails participation; a month-long October “AutumnFest” featuring “Cinderella Pumpkins,” house tours, hay rides and more; and “Christmas at Glenwood” including home tours and an extraordinary fine art show and sale. New this year will be Fiber Fusion, an event celebrating natural fiber and color and sheep dog trials on Oct. 11. Volunteers are the life blood of the Patrick Ranch Museum and are at the heart of any successful museum. If you have a skill, avocation or vocation to share, or just really enjoy people, join the more than 70 people who volunteer at the museum. For more information on volunteering, please contact Carol Oxsen at carol_oxsen@msn.com.
Meet the Farmer’s Circle The California Nut Festival would like to thank our Farmer’s Circle members, a dedicated group of farmers and agricultural-related businesses who have committed time, money and resources to the event. We appreciate your continued support and belief in the mission of promoting the bounty that is grown and produced here in the North State.
