the Best of the Best The Best of Northern Nevada Winners’ Guide The RN&R’s annual Best of Northern Nevada contest is our pride and joy. Every year, tens of thousands of readers vote for their favorite local people, places and things. We already announced this year’s winners in our massive Best of Northern Nevada issue back in August. But this week’s Winner’s Guide issue is something a little different: It’s a chance for the winners to address our readers directly—to say “thanks” or “we appreciate our supporters” or

“screw off, haters” or whatever else. It’s also a chance to give some recognition to the second and third place winners, who are listed online but not in the initial BONN issue. And perhaps most importantly, it gives readers a chance to have all the winners in a handy little guide that they can use all-year-round. We changed some of the voting rules this year and introduced a primary round. Those tweaks resulted in more upsets than usual—a lot of firsttime winners. Welcome to one of the most prestigious clubs in Northern Nevada, friends! But equal congrats are also due to the long-tenured winners who have kept their streaks alive. Folks, keep an eye out for those winning plaques. They’re a sign of quality. And local businesses: Beware of shady con artists trying to get you to buy framed plaques. Those people don’t work for us. We give away the winners’ plaques for free. And, everybody, beware of shady imitation contests. And thanks again to painter Jaxon Northon for the brilliant artwork. He took a very personal approach to each category and chose portrait subjects from his personal experience of Nevada history growing up here in the ’80s and ’90s. I earned my chops in the club and college bar scene during college. I technically started tending bar by chance. I was helping promote a college night at a club and one of the bartenders was well let’s say unable to work. So the owner asked me if I wanted to tend bar and fill in. I said yes obviously as a young 21 year old and then they hired me on.

We have the addition of the Revision Brewing Co. Reno Tap Room coming soon and the ability to sell growlers, crowlers, beer and wine to customers who would like to enjoy their beverages at home. We are also adding a food trailer with Southern Creole inspired BBQ to provide the option of not cooking if folks are not that adventurous and don’t feel like cooking their own food

People. Seeing people happy because they have a delicious cocktail in front of them enjoying conversations with friends or new friends. Getting to meet and converse with those people, learning about them and from them is a great part of the job. Also we have an awesome team at Pignic and they make us strive to be the best neighborhood bar we can be. They’re livelihood also depends on it.

1992 - In Santa Cruz, then opened a shop here in 1995. I got started tattooing friends first, then apprenticed, then after a few years I opened up here in Reno

Working with a great group of guys and creating beautiful works of art on people.

Consistently the best artists - same crew for essentially 17 years - unheard of in tattooing. Going to the shop you went to years ago for your first and having the same guy do your kid’s first is pretty cool! Quality, consistency, and friendly, reliable artists definitely helped.

What makes your business difdif ferent than your competitors? Great crew of amazing artists. The core of employees have been here since the beginning and we try to relate to each customer individually, as each person is different than the next.

any ny advice for people Who Want to make their business “the best”? Remember why you got in the business to begin with. You must have passion for what you are doing in order to succeed. We fell that the public can see if you’re only in it to make a buck.

When & hoW hoW did you get started in this business?

I had a dream of opening a French Bistro. Family conversations led to my in-laws Jerry and Teresa and my wife Trisha becoming partners in Beaujolais Bistro. Shortly before we opened, by chance, I met Jaquies Nolle at the Siena and voila, we had our own wait staff and then our kitchen staff came together. So here we are ten years later, and we are thankful for all the people who helped make Beaujolais Bistro possible: our dedicated employees, supportive family, the city of Reno, and, most importantly, our wonderful patrons. Over time we’ve found better ways to do things, new dishes, new wines and new faces. After ten years, I’m even more passionate about French cooking and eager to share my evolving vision of a French bistro with you.

We’ve continued our sponsorship of The Holland Project and we’re happy to partner with the Reno Mural Expo as a sponsor which is happening all around Reno next week! We overhauled our kitchen at the downtown store at the beginning of Summer to add more efficient fryers and an additional oven to speed up ticket times. As well as a few other upgrades including a new flooring and a fresh coat of paint. Currently we’re working with on a dining room/bar updated layout that will increase our seating, better order flow to speed up the process with an additional POS system, more draft beers, etc.”

I believe that the readers and this community have had a huge void in their options for fast, quality food in the downtown area (especially late at night). We take an incredible level of pride to tweaking and re-tweaking all of the recipes, processes, and scrutiny of which suppliers we use and product we accept. The tomatoes for the sauce are San Marzano. The meats are Boar’s Head and are sliced daily. Our flour in a blend and quality that only our shop purchases (to my knowledge).

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO GO TO WORK EVERY DAY? I think a passion and true pride to put out the best pizza (and everything else) that we can make. Having people go out of their way to let you know that it is the BEST pizza, wings, salad, etc that they have ever had or ever had outside of New York is a truly amazing feeling. It also hurts deeply when people are unhappy
