NNS Participates in YMCA STEM Fair On Thursday, July 21, volunteers from Career Pathways represented Newport News Shipbuilding at the 2016 Peninsula Metropolitan YMCA STEM Fair at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton, Virginia. During the event, approximatively 1,600 campers from 17 different YMCA branches participated in hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities. Volunteers from Career Pathways offered students live demonstrations of

modeling and simulation programs, as well as augmented reality. After attending the event, VCS Program Director Matt Needy said, “It was amazing to watch how all the kids responded to the NNS team and our state-of-the-art technology demonstrations.” “From the reactions and great questions we recieved from the kids, I am sure we will see many of those same faces wearing NNS hard hats and steel toes in the not too distant future,” said Needy.

EH&S Task Teams Sponsor Expo More than 35 Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Task Teams sponsored and participated in this year’s EH&S Task Team Expo on July 26 and 27. The expo was held in Bldg. 4931, a central location within the shipyard gates to improve travel for shipbuilders attending the event. EH&S Task Team Expo lead Kati Allison (O27) said, “Starting with the first EH&S Task Team Expo, our goal has been to allow for more employees to attend, so that they can see new tooling initiatives, innovative improvements and other EH&S Programs the teams have developed. The new location and extra day allowed 1,000 additional employees to attend.” CONTINUED ON PG 2
