NNS Raises Awareness on Piping Systems Cleanliness Throughout July, Newport News Shipbuilding will emphasize the importance of piping systems cleanliness through a variety of activities and programs. “Although every organization across the company may not physically touch pipes, all NNS employees have responsibility for ensuring we maintain system cleanliness throughout construction,” said Trades Director Leonard Harper. Building clean systems means that the interior of every pipe and component is cleaned before it is ever introduced into the production process. It also means systems and components are kept clean during every step of construction until final shipboard installation and final delivery to the Navy.

To raise awareness during July, there will be an OFI promotion focused on improving piping systems cleanliness, a “Take Five,” a series of Currents articles, a new Yardnet web page, a hard hat sticker, a Word Search Contest (see page 8) and yard-wide messages. Visit the Build Clean website on Yardnet to learn how work you do affects others’ ability to maintain system cleanliness throughout construction.
