A weekly publication of Newport News Shipbuilding
Shipbuilders, Family and Friends Participate in NNS 5K More than 1,400 participants took part in this year’s NNS 5K on Saturday, May 21. The annual event is held to promote health and fitness for the entire family. The 5K started at Victory Landing Park near the Virginia Advanced Shipbuilding and Carrier Integration Center (VASCIC) and continued north on West Avenue to 35th Street. From 35th Street, participants crossed over to Washington Avenue and proceeded north to 50th Street before returning to cross the finish line at Victory Landing Park. “I’ve really enjoyed participating in local events like the NNS 5K. My motivation to stay fit comes from my family pastor Rodney Pierce (E85) and co-worker James Herring (N960),” said Newport News Industrial Mechanical Technician Landon Pierce, who ran the 5K over the weekend. “For employees that say they don’t have the time to get out and run or walk, I would say to them to start now, while they are able to.” Turn to p. 4 to view a list of this year’s winners.
