Getting to Know...Lyle Pitner

It’s time for another edition of “Getting to Know...” Each quarter, we feature one of our board members in this section. Our board members are imperative to the Chamber’s success, and we are excited for you to get to know them better.

This quarter we are excited to introduce you to Lyle Pitner.

Lyle has been a member of the New Oxford Chamber Board of Directors since 2019. He is currently the vice president of the board. Lyle owns Lyle R Pitner State Farm, located right off of the square in New Oxford.

What inspired you to open your own business?

I decided to open a local business to own my own destiny and be able to give back and better support my communities.

What is your favorite part of being a part of the New Oxford Chamber Board of Directors?

I love working with the awesome business leaders who are part of the board and within our community. The support and camaraderie at our events is so rewarding!

What is your favorite thing about New Oxford?

I love the history and small town feel of this community. Being able to walk though our amazing Square and have people yell out “hello” as they are driving by is so cool!

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

Not necessarily advice that I was given directly, but I encourage anyone to watch the Jimmy Valvano ESPYs speech as he was literally dying from cancer. “To me there are three things everyone should do every day. Number one is laugh. Number two is think –spend some time in meaningful thought. Number three, you should have your emotions move you to tears. If you laugh, think, and cry, that’s a heck of a day.”

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Border Patrol Agent /Secret Service

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

I love Northern Quebec. The remoteness and solitude, along with sheer beauty is absolutely amazing. Now, if I could only get my wife to go with me!

You’re cooking for your staff picnic - what would be your signature dish?

They dug my Hawaiian Chicken and Island Pomegranate Rice this summer (I love to cook!).

What is one important skill you think everyone should have?

Ability to look people in the eyes. Our communication skills have really taken a turn for the worse with cell phones, etc. A good ‘ol conversation with eye contact is so needed!

Have you ever met a celebrity? If so, who was it?

Met a few but Doug Flutie was by far my favorite!

Want to promote your business?

Contact us at info@newoxford.org or (717) 624-2800 to reserve your spot today!

Festivities

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is always a busy day in New Oxford with Shop Small Saturday and the Annual Tree Lighting scheduled to take place. This year the date for both events is November 26.

The Chamber will once again be New Oxford’s Neighborhood Champion and will apply for Shop Small supplies for the small businesses in town. Businesses interested in requesting Shop Small supplies, such as posters and other promotional materials, are asked to stay tuned to our weekly update emails for more information coming soon.

For Small Business Saturday, the New Oxford Chamber also produces a Shop Small brochure featuring members of our business community. If you are a new business or an existing business that needs to make an update to your listing for this year, please email us at info@newoxford.org.

After going shopping at the great stores in and around New Oxford, be sure to stop by the Annual Tree Lighting at 5 p.m. in the circle. This longtime tradition features caroling, free hot chocolate and cookies and a special visit from Santa. Although this event has remained largely the same over the years, it continues to be a wonderful opportunity for members of the New Oxford community to come together and enjoy a special, fun evening filled with plenty of holiday magic.
