NEW MEXICO RUNNERS HISTORY OF THE RUNNERS

The New Mexico Runners are New Mexico’s 1st Major Arena Soccer League team! The mission of the New Mexico Runners Arena Soccer organization is to provide affordable family friendly sports entertainment to the community of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and its surrounding areas featuring an intense as well as exciting sports atmosphere. The concept for the Runners was developed over a 6 month process to bring professional sports to the City of Rio Rancho. Andres wanted to build the soccer business into a family affair and has done so by bringing on members of his family including such as his sister Angelica Delgado and his mother Annette Abreu who oversees ticketing. His wife and Co-Owner Kathryn works side by side with him to run the organization. She's officially the Game Operations Coordinator, but Kathryn has a hand in almost everything on the back-end including selling group tickets, organizing community events, handling "Rio" at events, and working with sponsors. Andres' experience in the sports industry extends from his radio days at ESPN Radio KQTM-FM in Rio Rancho to owning, operating and investing in local sports teams including professional indoor football and soccer. He also holds the position of Executive Director for the New Mexico Games which is the state's largest and longest running sports festival. Our ownership believes that quality of life improves because of sports teams and in turn more people invest in their own community. Everyone is looking to be a part of something BIG and the New Mexico Runners Major Arena Soccer League team is the next BIG thing to happen in New Mexico! Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the United States from youth to adult! The New Mexico Runners bring the community of Rio Rancho as well as the state of New Mexico exciting and fast paced arena soccer you do not want to miss. Every game wows fans with a live DJ, exciting fan engagement and pure family entertainment! The experience will leave fans wanting more New Mexico Runners arena soccer!

MEET "RIO" THE ROADRUNNER

Meet "Rio" The Roadrunner! New Mexico's most lovable and exciting mascot! Rio was unveiled at our inaugural pre-season game on December 1st, 2018. The roadrunner is New Mexico's state bird and having a roadrunner as our team's mascot reflects the identity of the state's only 100% New Mexican owned and operated sports team. There is no State Bird more closely connected to the people of the state than the Roadrunner is to the citizens of New Mexico. Early settlers for example were told that if you got lost, a roadrunner would always lead you back to the path for which you were searching. Rio will lead you to the most exciting game in the state and that is New Mexico Runners arena soccer at the Rio Rancho Events Center! NEW MEXICO RUNNERS COACHING STAFF

STEVE FAMIGLIETTA // HEAD COACH Head Coach Famiglietta who is also known as “Fami” in the local soccer community, is a USL soccer Hall of Famer and is a wellknown soccer icon who has dedicated his entire life to the sport. Famiglietta is originally from Long Island, New York and moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico with his family when he was in elementary school. He attended Cibola High School where he followed up his education at the University of New Mexico playing soccer. After playing at UNM, Famiglietta went on to play in the Southwest Indoor Soccer League (SISL) which later became the United Soccer League (USL) and continued to play indoor and outdoor soccer for numerous teams where he played as a player-coach on several of those teams. His accomplishments in professional soccer are stacked and include being named to the USL All-Star team three times along with being named the USL Defensive Player of The Year twice. Prior to Famiglietta’s last season, he represented the USL touring Russia and since his playing career, he has been inducted into the USL Hall Of Fame as well as the Cibola High School Sports Hall Of Fame. This is is Coach Famiglietta's third season with the Runners and he has put together a solid team with returning and new players on the roster.

NICK FAMIGLIETTA // ASSISTANT COACH Nick Famiglietta is one of the New Mexico Runners' Assistant Coaches and the son of Head Coach Steve Famiglietta. Nick played with the Runners in the first season before he sustained a critical knee injury. Famiglietta continued to help coach the Runners in the inaugural season and the second season. He brings his talented soccer skillset to the organization and has been an asset as a member of the coaching staff.

NEW MEXICO RUNNERS MASL 2 & ARENA SOCCER 101

The Major Arena Soccer League is the largest indoor soccer league in the United States. The game of professional indoor soccer was created in 1977 and played to record crowds in major markets during the 1980’s and 90’s. The original Major Indoor Soccer League and team executives were responsible for much of the professional ingame entertainment that you witness at NBA, NHL, and MLB games throughout the country.

Once the sports and entertainment trendsetter in the United States, indoor soccer is positioned once again to be at the forefront of the sports and entertainment industry, featuring the best indoor soccer players in the world. The New Mexico Runners are part of the M2 which was formed in 2017 and serves as the official development league of the Major Arena Soccer League. The M2 & MASL represent the highest level of arena soccer in the world, and feature 26 teams across North America. •The artificial turf Field is approximately 200 feet long and 85 feet wide. Dasherboards, topped by Plexiglas, surround the playing field. Players' benches and the penalty boxes are behind the dasherboards at midfield. •The goal is 8 feet high and 14 feet wide and is set into the boards at both ends of the field. •The Ball is 27-28 inches in circumference, weighing 14-16 ounces. •The game is played in four 15-minute quarters. There is a three-minute interval between the first and second quarters and between the third and fourth quarters and a 15-minute halftime. The clock stops when a goal is scored, when the ball leaves the playing area or when there is a penalty kick, penalty call, yellow-line violation, official timeout or any whistle by the referee. The clock restarts with the playing of the ball. •The visiting team has possession for kickoffs in the first and third quarters; the home team in the second and fourth. Play restarts (after the ball leaves the playing area) with a kick-in or a corner kick or distribution from the goalkeeper. •Corner kicks are taken if the ball leaves the playing area between the two flags on the goal line, having been last touched by the defending team. The goalkeeper will distribute the ball if the ball leaves the playing area between the two flags on the goal line, having been last touched by the attacking team. Kick-ins are taken when the ball leaves the field of play at any other area and will be put back in play by the opposing team at the point the ball left the field longitudinally between flags or top of arc if directly out in the defensive zone. •Each team is allotted three timeouts per game with no more than two to be used per half. A timeout is 60 seconds in length. Timeouts do not accumulate over the course of the game. Teams either use them or lose them. Official timeouts will be called following a stoppage after 8 minutes in each quarter. •Yellow Line violations are called when a forward pass crosses both yellow lines in the air without being touched by another player (except for a throw from the goalkeeper). A violation of this rule results in a change of possession and a direct kick from the offensive yellow line.

RUNNERS HOSTING WICHITA ON FAITH & FAMILY NIGHT Rio Rancho, NM (February 25, 2022) – On Saturday February 26th, 2022 the New Mexico Runners kickoff their 5th home game of their 3rd season playing host to the Wichita Wings at the Rio Rancho Events Center. Saturday's game is themed "Faith & Family Night" which is dedicated to the faith and church groups around the community. Faith groups receive 20% off the normal ticket prices when they mention their church or group at the box office.

The New Mexico Runners are currently 2-7 on the season with just 3 games remaining. First up is to take on the Wichita Wings at home. This will be the 2nd time the Runners have faced the wing this season. Last meetup was in Wichita, Kansas -this past January where the Runners stopped Wichita's undefeated winning streak, outscoring the Wings 7-6 in a high flying defensive battle. New Mexico looks to clip the Wings once more at the Rio Rancho Events Center on Saturday night. Wichita currently sits in first place in the Midwest Division with a record of 6-2 and is coming off a loss to Rio Grande Valley. This weekend will be a test of adjustments. Wichita is not a team to look past and New Mexico will have to play their game to throw the Wings off their game. Expect another high paced showdown with Froilan Ramirez and Jacob Gandarilla moving quickly to score. On the defensive side, expect Colton Oord and Mario Matute to put on the pressure to dispossess the Wings. One adjustment that needs to be made is the absence of lead scorer Sergio Fuentes who sustained a season ending injury at practice this past week. Fuentes rolled his right ankle which resulted in a severe ankle sprain which will take about a month to recover from. He finishes this season with 9 games played, 12 goals, and 5 assists. Fuentes stated, "I'm extremely heartbroken that my season came to an end like this. I will always continue to support my team even if I'm on the sideline." "We are very sad about Sergio's situation since he's such an integral fabric of this organization. The adjustment will be hard to make, but has to be made for this weekend." Says Head Head Coach Steve Famiglietta. Saturday night's game will be one for the books as there will be aggressive play and high defensive energy. Defense will be in the spotlight for both teams and expect a lot of contact. Goalkeeper and Rio Rancho High School graduate Nate Yeager will have a hot one on his hands and need to play a solid game.

RIO RANCHO EVENTS CENTER

This $47 million facility is a multi-functional arena with sound, lighting and concertquality acoustics. The Event Center leads the field among venues in New Mexico and hosts concerts, sporting events, conferences, and cultural programs. With 165, 000 square feet of extended floor space, the Arena is ideally suited for large-scale performances. Equipped to accommodate any type of event, the RREC features a powerful delay speaker system that can enhance the sound of small stage productions. The technical expertise and dedication of the RREC staff ensures that audiences will be dazzled and entertained with shows they will never forget. Any event is possible with the Arena's flexible setup, retractable seating, protective floor covering and in-house draping system all help to make every event the best it can be. Whether an intimate meeting, a large trade show, or a sellout concert, each event can expect the same professional service. This multipurpose facility seats approximately 6,000 for arena soccer, hockey and rodeos and up to 7,500 for concerts. The facility can also host boxing, basketball, motocross, ice shows, theatrical productions, to name a few. The RREC has 1,400 parking spaces, 500 club seats, 26 private luxury suites and was designed and built to meet all ADA specifications to accommodate our guests with disabilities. The Event Center is located in Rio Rancho and is a main attraction for audiences of varying tastes and interests. It is strategically located approximately 10 miles from Albuquerque and 30 miles from the Sunport International Airport.
