A holistic approach to caring for ethnic skin

The secret to flawless African skin is not lightening treatments that change the complexion, but rather addressing inflammation and controlling the triggers. Millchem offers a basket of proven skin care actives from Ashland’s Vincience biofunctionals portfolio, which takes a holistic approach to preserving the beauty of ethnic skin. By Abby Vorster

Increased sebum, acne and dryness are all concerns of dark skin tones and can lead to skin irritation. This is one of the root causes of pigmentation, which in turn leads to uneven skin tone.

“By adopting a holistic approach to care for ethnic skin, we can reduce inflammation, control sebum and improve moisturisation; thereby limiting irritation,” says Giulio Pozzobon, national sales manager of Millchem.

Protect and purify

Oxygenated Glycerol Triesters D biofunctional is clinically shown to help provide comfort and soothing properties in skin care applications. This in combination with Vital ET, a unique biofunctional complex of a vitamin E derivative designed for sensitive skin, can help reduce the appearance of redness and swelling on skin.

For skin protection, Pozzobon recommends Elixiance, a natural and sustainable Peruvian Schinus molle extract with anti-pollution, skin-purifying and age-perfecting benefits. It is rich in powerful bioavailable polyphenols such as quercitrin and miquelianin and demonstrates strong activity to support the look of beautiful skin. Elixiance is clinically tested to help reduce sebum at the skin surface, keep skin fresh and hydrated and protect cells against air pollution.

Cleanse and control

It’s also important to control sebum production without drying out the skin. Acnacidol BG is a unique active ingredient aimed at re-establishing the physiological balance in acne-prone skin. 10-HAD, the target molecule of Acnacidol BG, is a synthetic bio-mimetic version of a hydroxyl acid naturally present in royal jelly. In clinical studies, Acnacidol BG provided excellent results for sebo-regulation.

“With these biofunctionals from Ashland, formulators can design skin care solutions to enhance the natural beauty of ethnic skin. By controlling and addressing concerns like sebum production and pollution protection, we can address the primary need of even-tone skin,” Pozzobon concludes. •
