WITH NEARLY HALF of the world’s population at risk of contracting malaria, primarily in sub Saharan Africa, stepping up the fight against the disease is a pressing challenge. Rising to the challenge, Bayer has launched a new indoor residual spray (IRS), Fludora Fusion, set to make great strides in the fight against malaria.

According to the World Health Organization, 219 million cases of malaria were reported in 2017, up from 217 million in 2016. In southern Africa alone, during 2018, more than 16 000 cases resulting in 110 deaths were reported by the end of October. This is more than the average number of cases over the 10 year period between 2007 and 2016, which was estimated at 7 600 cases per year.

‘Insecticide resistance remains one of the biggest threats to eradicating malaria largely because of our reliance on a limited number of effective insecticides in vector control interventions against malaria carrying mosquitos. They found that soaking relaxed African hair for one hour in a one percent w/w solution (0.1 percent active) of ProSina allowed the peptides to deposit on the cuticle and penetrate into the cortex.
