RECOMMENDED PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES Physical hazards Bagged cement is usually packaged in 50kg units. Handling and moving cement bags should be undertaken with due regard for the possibility of back and other physical strains. Similar caution should be exercised when mixing, transporting, placing and finishing concrete, as many of these operations may involve unaccustomed physical effort or working in awkward or uncomfortable positions for long periods. Exposure to cement and other dust Cement: This is an abrasive fine powder and, when handled, some dust may become suspended in the air in the working area. Users should avoid inhaling cement dust as this may cause irritation of the nose and throat. Cement dust may also cause irritation of the eyes.

FEATURE PADLOCKS THE MAIN BODY TYPES ARE: Pressed steel – these are two halves of the body which are made from pressed steel and then welded together once the internal parts have been inserted. Discus type locks are usually made in this way. Solid brass – manufacture of these locks is easy, as brass is soft, however, the soft brass is susceptible to attack by drilling, hammers and crow bars. Sometimes the brass body is armour encased with a hardened steel jacket, this increases the resistance of the soft brass to being attacked. PADLOCK MAINTENANCE • This is an aspect that is overlooked and neglected by most users. A small amount of lubricant applied once or twice a year should be sufficient • Rather not use graphite power. It is fine though, but it should not be used in conjunction with a wet lubricant. If a person chooses to use graphite powder, they should stick to it as future use of a wet lubricant will gum up the graphite powder. • The best lubricant is a dry type lubricant which contains PTFE. These type lubricants protect the lock and do not attract dust and dirt into the workings of the padlock.

Share what differentiates you from your competitors; keep frontof-mind. Consumers develop a fondness and loyalty for your products/services mainly because they are familiar with them. Keep communication going! Remember, it’s cheaper to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one. That said, it may be time to part with brands or products that were ailing prior to the coronavirus pandemic and are on life support now. Take this time to determine which brands have poor survival forecasts, which may endure falling sales but can be steadied, and which are likely to thrive during this time, and beyond. And all the while, have a ready pipeline of innovations for when the market shifts, as most consumers will try a variety of new products once the economy improves. Gear your marketing for the upturn, prepare, innovate, maybe re-invent yourself — get behind enemy lines and take the opposition by surprise.

FACE TO FACE PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT WE DO I won’t stop talking about the welfare of the retail business in South Africa. I have taken it upon myself to speak out on behalf of the near bottom level of the retail chain in South Africa. There is no government level representation of a formal kind that reaches into the halls of decision-making. Because this is the level that we play in, I feel obliged to voice my concerns and air my views. Our operations are at grassroots level. We understand this market better than most. It is our bread and butter. This segment must be represented and protected. The numbers in this market segment reach into the millions that will be affected if it is destroyed – something the economy cannot afford. We look at it from a macro-economic viewpoint as well. Protecting jobs is all good and well, but we have to grow the economy if we are to survive in the long-term in South Africa. New jobs are mostly created by small business in South Africa. This needs to be accelerated and expanded at all costs to ensure social stability. How would this be possible if entire retail service channels ceased to exist? It would be a calamity. So, if there are traders out there who are looking for a solution and they think we may have the answer, we would like to hear from them. It will be an easy process to determine if there is synergy between us or not. IN SUMMARY THEN, THIS IS EST’S OFFERING: • We have a totally transparent model • Members get to share in our success and profits • We focus on the survival and growth for our members • Members retain their independence and identity • Members get access to group negotiated trading terms across a large spectrum of preferred suppliers • We use our substantial volume-based buying power to access excellent deals for all our members year-round • During the course of the year we will negotiate themed special deals (3 or 4 per year eg: Easter, Happy Holidays, Back to Work etc) over and above the annual preferred supplier listing deals • Weekly product deals are communicated via regional members’ WhatsApp groups • We make it possible for preferred suppliers to access our members at a decision-making level. When negotiating for these offerings with suppliers we try to secure deals for products that match the time of year and cyclical events for optimum benefit. As I said previously it is all about a win-win for all involved and we are quite passionate about that.

Don’t get left in the dark — tips to improve garage lighting Just like any room in the house, the garage needs proper lighting too. Here’s some suggestions on how to improve it.

Accent lighting: The purpose of this lighting is to highlight specific objects or areas in the garage. Position the light so that it shines directly on what you want to showcase. Track lights and LED strips lights are great options. CHOOSE LED BULBS WITH A HIGH CRI If you’re using your garage as a workshop or a place to dabble in DIY projects then you’ll want your lighting to render the colour of woodwork, paint, and other items as realistically as possible. To achieve this, use bulbs with a CRI (colour rendering index) of 85 to 100. A bulb with a CRI of 100 represents the CRI of daylight at midday. Now is also the time to consider switching to LED bulbs. They offer between 15 000 and 30 000 hours of illumination, which LAYER YOUR LIGHTING

DON’T FORGET THE ENTRANCE You’ve identified your lighting needs for inside the garage, but what about the outside? The entrance of your garage is no place to be fumbling around for keys or a remote to open up. A motion sensor floodlight will illuminate your garage entryway whenever movement is detected and will automatically turn off when movement ceases for a certain period of time. It’s also a great safety and security measure as it should deter would-be intruders who prefer to operate in the dark. Source: Radiant Lighting
