I have to adm it that the genealogies of the Old Testam ent ar e usually sections of the Bible that I scan or sim ply skip over. Especially w hen I r ead the old King Jam es Ver sion, all the ?begats? left m e bew ilder ed at best and uninspir ed and uninter ested at w or st. Recently, though, I?ve gained a new appr eciation for these passages. Last m onth my w ife, Jean, and I spent a few days in the Nether lands. Dur ing one of the days w e dr ove to the pr ovince of Gr oningen fr om w her e both of our ancestor s em igr ated, Jean?s in the m id 1800?s and m ine in the latter par t of the centur y. Sever al year s ago my Uncle sent m e our fam ilies genealogy. I can tr ace my lineage to the ear ly 1600?s: (Date of birth unverified)

You?ll notice that the sur nam e ?Nor den? did not appear until 1794 w hen Napoleon r equir ed all the citizens of the Nether lands to adopt a sur nam e. W her e all of this becam e especially m eaningful last m onth w as w hen Jean and I stopped at the chur ch in w hich my gr eat-gr andpar ents 8 gener ations back w er e m ar r ied. I don?t over -exagger ate w hen I say that it w as a ?holy m om ent? as I stood on the sam e gr ound on w hich they w er e m ar r ied. Standing in the envir ons of the old Dutch chur ch in Ooster nieland gave m e a sense of r ootedness, both in life and in faith. And my faith in the pr ovidence and goodness of God w as affir m ed yet again.

I?m ver y happy to have an oppor tunity to br ing ever yone up to speed on w hat?s been happening fr om the CA?s office for the last m onth or so! The activity level r em ains busier than you m ay im agine (at least m or e so than I?d im agined!) but m ay be star ting to slow dow n a bit. I?d like to shar e a few highlights w ith you her e. If you have been follow ing the financial infor m ation as pr esented in pr evious new sletter s, you w ill have noted that our financial position has r em ained r elatively str ong so far this year. We ar e gr ateful to the Lor d for His m any blessings! Financial r epor ts for both Apr il and M ay ar e included below. In Apr il, please note that our Total Incom e ($158,074) exceeded Total Expense ($81,642) by over $76,000. Total tithes and offer ings ar e often higher due to Easter , but in addition, m onthly expenses in Apr il w er e a bit low er than usual at $81,642. Giving dr opped significantly in M ay w ith Total incom e at $87,301 w hile expense r an som ew hat higher (appr oxim ately 4 per cent over budget pr im ar ily due to technology suppor t ser vices). Over all year -to-date (YTD) incom e exceeds expenses by near ly $30,000. We continue to m aintain one and a half m onths of oper ating expenses in our Oper ations Reser ve Fund
I w ould also highlight that as of M ay 31, 2018, New Hope has paid over $42,000 in benevolences (8.34 per cent of YTD giving). We continue to look for w ar d to shar ing God?s love by assisting var ious m inistr ies and helping other s thr ough our benevolence pr ogr am . In addition to the financial update, w e ar e in the pr ocess of addr essing a num ber of facility-r elated item s including w or king w ith contr actor s to m anage our building and gr ounds m aintenance, r oof and electr ical concer ns, technology issues, as w ell as som e exciting plans for inter ior r enovations. Over all, I r em ain com m itted to looking for w ays w e m ight incr ease or im pr ove our ability to ser ve Chr ist and be good stew ar ds of the r esour ces w e have her e at New Hope. Last, but not least, I w ant to take this oppor tunity to thank the entir e New Hope Staff for their am azing dedication, har d w or k and desir e to ser ve our Lor d, our congr egation and our com m unity. Also pr oviding a child w ith special needs a chair that w ill accom m odate her needs w hile in that space. Hope Hol l ow ? Hope Hollow pr ovides pr ayer s, lodging, m eals, tr anspor tation assistance, em otional suppor t, at no cost, to cancer patients, their fam ilies and fr iends, w ho ar e financially in need, w hile tr aveling to Colum bus for their cancer tr eatm ent. Coat s 4 Ch i l dr en ? to pr ovide new coats to econom ically disadvantaged childr en in the Centr al Ohio ar ea. Seven Bask et s ? to pr ovide a Sum m er Day Cam p pr ogr am that helps disadvantaged childr en living in the Thunder bir d Acr es neighbor hood. It pr ovides food, educational enr ichm ent, and bible study. M ar m on Val l ey Far m s ? to pr ovide scholar ships to childr en w ho w ish to attend the Sum m er Cam p pr ogr am s. These pr ogr am s pr ovide bible study along w ith the oppor tunity to r ide hor ses. They also seek to connect kids w ithout hom e chur ches to chur ches in their ar ea. Fr an k l i n t on Ri si n g ? to pr ovide valuable constr uction skills and Chr istian gr ow th to young adults in the Fr anklinton ar ea. The goal is to build Chr istians and pr ovide job skills that w ill m ake them em ployable. Ki n dw ay ? to pr ovide funds for their Em bar k pr ogr am w hich helps pr ovide Chr istian gr ow th and m entor ship to those w ho ar e incar cer ated. It also pr ovides tr ansitional help for those w ho ar e leaving the penal system . Gr ace Cl i n i c -to pr ovide fr ee dental car e along w ith Chr istian suppor t to those in need in the Delaw ar e ar ea. Sue M ober ger is one of the dentists w ho gives her tim e to help those in need.
