Those w ho know m e know that I am an ear ly r iser. M y w ife Jean, her br other and I w er e having a conver sation about this r ecently and they w er e of the opinion that this is a consequence of genetics. It?s tr ue that my sister s ar e also ear ly r iser s. I w onder , how ever , if my being r aised in Japan has anything to do w ith this. Dur ing the sum m er m onths in Japan it is light by 4:00AM and dar k by 7:00PM . I?m convinced that this has affected my cir cadian r hythm s. Regar dless of the r eason, I enjoy the quiet of the ear ly m or ning. It?s a good tim e for m e to begin the day in scr iptur e and pr ayer as I seek God?s face. It?s also a tim e w hen I r eflect and pr epar e for the day. As I w r ite this, I?m looking out at Lake M ichigan. In the quiet of the ear ly m or nings her e as I see the vastness of the lake, I?m given pause to ponder my place in the univer se. Tom or r ow m or ning, as I see the w aves that today?s w eather r epor t indicate w ill be in the thr ee to six foot r ange, I w ill again be aw ed by the pow er of natur e. The stillness of the m or ning is r ich tim e, significant tim e and pr oductive tim e also. It?s tim e to r eor ient myself, to gain a pr oper per spective on life and to r em em ber w ho I am and w hose I am .

Our building is in good or der , our r eser ves have been r eplenished, and w e have been able to m ove over $37,000 into our new building capital r eser ve fund. This new fund is vital to the long ter m upkeep and m aintenance of our cur r ent facilities to help avoid unexpected expenditur es out of our futur e annual budgets. M ost im por tantly, your gifts have given New Hope the ability to expand God?s kingdom outside of our w alls thr ough var ious oppor tunities. New Hope takes a scr iptur al appr oach to giving by tithing 10% of our offer ings to other Chr istian-based m inistr ies. The chur ch?s tithing, r efer r ed to as benevolences, suppor ts or ganizations her e in Centr al Ohio as w ell as national and inter national m inistr ies. Thanks to your gener ous giving, w e ar e able to help each of these m inistr ies accom plish their good w or k . TEAM UPDATE r achel t at e, t eam l ead
New Hope Chur ch is a gifted and blessed chur ch. We host m any fam ilies w ho br ing individual str engths, talents, and gifts to our chur ch hom e and fam ily. The Childr en?s M inistr y Team , along w ith 209 childr en, w itnessed the beauty of the giving of those gifts and talents thr ough an am azing w eek of Vacation Bible School. People donated their financial r esour ces, their ar tistic and or ganizational talents, and their tim e to teach an am azing cr ew of childr en all about Jesus?gr eat love for them . We ar e thankful beyond m easur e to all of you w ho played a par t in VBS.
On the final day of VBS, our childr en lear ned the lesson of Abigail, Nabal, and David. In 1 Sam uel, Abigail show s quick thinking and str ength w hen she saves her fam ily fr om David?s sw or d, and saves David fr om blem ishing his r eputation. She w as cr eated for a pur pose that God specifically planned out for her , and per fectly cr eated her to achieve that plan. God has that planned out for each of us. A pur pose, a plan, and the per fect cr eation to succeed. W hat w e lear ned in the planning and pr epar ation w eeks befor e VBS is that r ecr uiting volunteer s is a huge distr action fr om planning the actual teaching of God?s Wor d. We began the r ecr uiting pr ocess the second w eek of June and still had to liter ally beg people to step up to the plate to volunteer at VBS. It w as fr ustr ating, exhausting, and unbear ably saddening. As a m other of four childr en, I ver y w ell under stand a busy schedule. I also under stand that my fir st calling in life is to love God. M y second is to teach His Wor d. That is achieved by each of us, uniquely based in that per fect design of God that He cr eated and instilled in each of us. Pr ior ities show in how w e live our lives. It is my gr eat pr ayer that the Childr en?s M inistr y Team w ill see a quicker r esponse w hen it com es to aiding in the teaching of the Gospel to all of our childr en. It takes a huge village to achieve that. I once saw a sign at a chur ch that said, ?Teach w ith your life.? How ar e you teaching? Ar e you show ing your childr en that shar ing your tim e and talents, r esour ces and gifts w ithin the chur ch body is a pr ior ity? We ar e cur r ently r ecr uiting Sunday School Teacher s and Shepher ds, along w ith Pr aise School Leader s and School House Sunday School Teacher s for the 2017-18 pr ogr am year. It is our pr ayer that you w ill step up to the plate as God has called you. It is our pr ayer that you w ill find the joy in ser ving God and your younger br other s and sister s in Chr ist. ?Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. You m ay have seen Dez singing in the choir and leading w or ship w ith the Pr aise Team . Dez and her husband Byr on have thr ee aw esom e kids. Byr on sits in the pew w ith their daughter s Aver y (10) and Kendle (8). Their son, Jake (12), is usually r unning the video in the tech booth in the back of the sanctuar y. The Takas fam ily is ver y active in the chur ch in childr en?s pr ogr am s, tech m inistr y, and m usic m inistr y. Dez has volunteer ed and assisted w ith alm ost ever y childr en?s pr ogr am or m usical event since they star ted attending New Hope 8 year s ago. Dez has an extensive histor y w ith choir as w ell as teaching childr en. She is so excited to be able to blend her love of both thr ough this m inistr y. She hopes to build (w ith your help as w ell as the kiddos) a childr en?s choir w her e our childr en can lear n how to lear n to love w or shiping our gr acious God thr ough m usic. Dez is beyond excited to begin this new adventur e in our chur ch, and hopes you w ill be r ight ther e beside her opening up this w or ld of w or ship to the next gener ation.
