New Hope's Mission To Reach people for Chr ist, Root people in Chr ist, and Rel ease people to ser ve Chr ist.

I w ould im agine that I have som e com pany w hen I say that I?m astounded that this is the Septem ber new sletter. W her e has sum m er gone? Never theless, it?s been a sum m er filled w ith w onder ful activities such as Spor ts Cam p, High School M ission Tr ip, Cr an-Hill Ranch for m iddle school youth, Vacation Bible School and m any other s. I?m still ver y gr ateful for and hum bled by the am azing w or k God continues to do am ong us.

It has also been a sum m er of ongoing change. By now I im agine that m any, if not m ost, have hear d about the r econfigur ation of our Childr en?s M inistr y leader ship. W hen w e r ealized that w e w er e having an incr edibly difficult tim e finding bona fide candidates for the Dir ector of Childr en?s M inistr y, w e paid attention and discover ed that God w as leading us in a dir ection that w e had not pr eviously consider ed. Instead of a Dir ector and Assistant Dir ector of Childr en?s M inistr y, w e?r e incr edibly blessed to have Rach el Tat e as Childr en?s M inistr y Team Leader , Sar ah Bar t u l a as Childr en?s M inistr y Outr each Coor dinator , Rach el War r en as Childr en?s M inistr y Education Coor dinator and Jen n i f er W i l l i son as Childr en?s M inistr y Nur ser y Coor dinator. Each of them br ings skills, know ledge, passion and a hear t for childr en to gr ow in faith!

W ith the r econfigur ation in leader ship, w e began to consider how w e use our office space. If you?ve saunter ed by that ar ea, you know that significant change has happened ther e also. I now occupy the office in w hich Sar ah Palsm a w as pr eviously. Sar ah is now in w hat w as the Childr en?s M inistr y office. Chur ch Adm inistr ator Todd Alles and Financial Adm inistr ator Gail Headlee have m oved into w hat w as my office. And the confer ence r oom has been tr ansfor m ed into a Childr en?s M inistr y hub!

Another significant change in our facility use has been the conver sion of the Nippa Room to a kinder gar ten classr oom for New Hope Pr eschool. That conver sion is com plete w ith the addition of a toilet and sink, the fur nitur e has been m oved in and the w all decor ations hung and the teacher s ar e now eager ly w aiting for their students to ar r ive. W ith the conver sion of the Nippa Room and the confer ence r oom in the office space, w e?ve had to m ake som e adjustm ents in classr oom space for our 4th and 5th gr ade Sunday School class, Kids WOW and adult education.

W hen Sunday School r esum es in the fall, the 4th and 5th gr ade class w ill m eet in Fellow ship Hall C. Sunday m or ning adult education w ill be held in the Libr ar y, Adult Room A (pr eviously the Chur ch Adm inistr ator ?s office), Adult Room B (aka Cr y Room ) and the space in the Nar thex w her e w e have set up tables and chair s for coffee fellow ship. The m ost dr am atic change is in shifting coffee and cookies after w or ship to a differ ent ar ea in the Nar thex and the r eality that the Nar thex w ill not be available for socializing dur ing the Sunday School hour.

Lastly, w e?ve m ade the decision to extend our sum m er w or ship schedule for an extr a w eek . Since Septem ber 11 of this year is the fifteenth anniver sar y of the attack on the Wor ld Tr ade Center , the Pentagon and the tr agedy of Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA and it falls on a Sunday, w e w ill be offer ing a Ser vice of Rem em br ance as our r egular w or ship on that day. I anticipate that it w ill be a pr ofoundly m oving tim e as w e com e befor e God to seek continued healing for our nation, as w e r em em ber those w hose lives w er e taken on that day and in the days and year s follow ing, and as w e honor fir st r esponder s w ho pr otect and ser ve us daily. We w ill r esum e our r egular w or ship schedule on Sunday, Septem ber 18 w ith contem por ar y w or ship and childr en?s Sunday School at 9:00AM , m iddle and high school and adult Sunday School w ith Pr aise School for childr en (for m er ly Or ange) at 10:15AM , and tr aditional w or ship and School House Sunday School (for m er ly Chr istian Car toon Club) at 11:15AM .

W hile I?ve enjoyed the differ ent activities that sum m er br ings, I alw ays look for w ar d to fall and a new pr ogr am year. God has a gr eat futur e in stor e for us and I?m excited to be a par t of it.

I began my adm inistr ative car eer in 1980 as Dir ector of Athletics at (then) Dublin High School. I quickly found that if I w as to be a successful leader , I needed to study successful people. M y fir st ventur e into "W isdom Liter atur e" w as "See You at The TOP!" by the legendar y Zig Ziglar. After com pleting that book, I gained a thir st to lear n m or e and r ead ever ything I could find to help m e be m or e effective in leading people. I studied ever ything fr om "How to W in Fr iends and Influence People" by Dale Car negie, to "Soar w ith Your Str engths" by Donald O. Clifton. Then in 1990 I cam e acr oss "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey.

Of the countless behavior s of the w or ld's m ost successful leader s that I lear ned, the one com m on denom inator w as setting r easonable, m easur able and obser vable goals. I began the habit of beginning w ith the end in m ind (Covey) and identified long r ange goals. Then fr om those goals, I listed m onthly, w eekly, and daily goals that w ould help m e in accom plishing the long r ange goals. (continued on next page)

W hen I accepted this position I set goals to identify the "Clim ate" of New Hope Chur ch thr ough the eyes of ever y staff m em ber ; cr eate a new m odel for Childr en's M inistr y and hir e 5 leader s/coor dinator s; under stand the budget pr ocess and find w ays to "Close the Gap" that w e see each w eek in the bulletin; inspect the facilities to identify im m ediate needs and long r ange pr eventive m easur es; and to get a jum p on the 2017 budget.

We have a GREAT staff that jum ped in and m ade those goals their ow n. You ar e alr eady aw ar e that they designed a new Childr en's M inistr y and m ade 4 of the 5 hir es in r ecor d tim e. (We REALLY need to find a coor dinator for the Childr en's M usic M inistr y!) Our staff did an outstanding job "Clear ing the Clutter " in our stor age ar eas. It is a new look for sur e and ever yone has done their par t in m aking sur e it r em ains or ganized.

As Pastor Steve m entioned, sever al of us have sw itched offices to better use our office space. You have to stop by the new Childr en's M inistr y Hub (the for m er Confer ence Room ) and look at w hat they have alr eady done w ith that ar ea. Talk about ener gy and passion! We have also w or ked on changing spending habits and continue to look at w ays to cur tail spending w ithout taking aw ay things necessar y for w or ship and gr ow th.

As I com plete my second full m onth on staff, I r eflect on those goals w ith pleasur e because of the dedication and har d w or k that so m any other s have put in. So m any changes have taken place in such a shor t per iod of tim e and ever yone has pitched in and em br aced those changes w ith love and passion.

I alw ays do a w eekly and m onthly self assessm ent on each of the goals I have set. I also do a self evaluation on my per for m ance as it r elates to per sonal and chur ch goals and the ch u r ch m i ssi on st at em en t . M y job is NOT to tell anyone w her e the chur ch or a specific m inistr y should go, but r ather to pr ovide the r esour ces needed to go w her e they believe God is leading them .

As a staff, w e need to identify w her e w e should be headed, individually and collectively. That w ill be the agenda each staff m eeting; to see w her e w e ar e in our ow n jour ney individually and collectively. We need to deter m ine w hat each of us can do to help the other s in pur suit of their goals and then get busy doing it.

At our next w eekly staff m eeting, the fir st item on our agenda w ill be to look at w her e w e w ant to be as a chur ch, w her e w e w ant our individual m inistr ies to be, and w her e each of us w ants to be as a staff m em ber. This should be a com pass for us to stay focused on helping each other ser ve God based on our goals, aspir ations, and God given talents.
