Do I like football m or e than chur ch? I can har dly believe that I?m asking the question. And, lest you think that my m ental faculties ar e star ting to deter ior ate, please bear w ith m e. Because of the gener osity of my cousin, our son, Char lie, and I w er e able to attend the Tam pa Bay Buccaneer s ? New Yor k Giants gam e this past Sunday. The m ost w onder ful joy of the after noon w as that this w as the gr eatest am ount of tim e I w as able to spend alone w ith Char lie since he w as in high school. Additionally, the envir onm ent in Raym ond Jam es Stadium w as ener gizing. Char lie w ar ned m e in advance that ther e w ould be alm ost as m any Giants fans pr esent as ther e w er e Buccaneer s fans. In the section in w hich w e sat, it w as a ver itable sea of blue? Giants fans to the left of us, Giants fans in fr ont of us, Giant fans behind us (w e had aisle seats so no one w as to the r ight of us). Still, even though w e w er e cheer ing for opposing team s, ther e w as no labeling, no nam e calling because w e disagr eed w ith each other. Ther e w as conviviality betw een r ival fans and at the end of the gam e, opposing fans w er e congr atulating each other. How differ ent fr om w hat I exper ience in the chur ch these days. I don?t see this so m uch at
New Hope as I do in the chur ch at lar ge, even in our denom ination the Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica. It seem s that w e?ve taken to hear t Jesus w or ds, ?He/she w ho is not for us is against us.? We can no longer have civil conver sation and w e?r e quick to label those w ho do not inter pr et scr iptur e in the sam e w ay that w e do. Those w ho ar e on the other side of the political aisle ar e dem onized. All of w hich m akes m e w onder ?is this w hat our Lor d had in m ind w hen he said I w ill build my chur ch??. The pr evious cr est of the Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica had these w or ds in Dutch, ?Eendr acht m aakt m acht.? Or iginally this w as the m otto of the Dutch Republic and it is often tr anslated as ?unity m akes str ength? although a m or e accur ate tr anslation m ay be ?concor d m akes str ength.? The w or ds of Psalm 133 seem par ticular ly poignant in these tim es: How good and pleasant it is when God?s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron?s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on M ount Zion. For there the LORD bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

The dr ivew ay in fr ont of our entr ance w as r epair ed and the par king lot w as sealed. The lighting over the platfor m in the sanctuar y w as r epair ed and upgr aded to LED. The lighting in the Choir r oom w as upgr aded to LED.

The childr en ar e doing a gr eat job w alking into school and getting r eady for their day. Our new 3?s class in the Rainbow r oom (nur ser y) has offer ed 12 new fam ilies the oppor tunity to join our pr eschool. We ar e gr ateful to shar e the space and ser ve m or e fam ilies! In the classr oom s, w e ar e enjoying tasting apples, m aking ar t w ith apples and lear ning about the season of Fall. Fall offer s so m any oppor tunities to lear n
about the changes that occur in natur e. In addition, the childr en ar e busy lear ning our m or ning and end of the day pr ayer , and m eeting new fr iends. We look for w ar d to our annual field tr ip to Lehner Far m s. Each pr eschool classr oom w ill have a day at the Far m to enjoy picking out a pum pkin and all the fun activities they offer. We w ill also have a visit fr om the Fir e Depar tm ent in October. The students w ill lear n about fir e safety, see a fir efighter in full gear and lear n about the fir etr uck .
