commitment to and effectiveness in outreach in their local communities. New Hope has been identified as one of those churches. When Consistory discussed this opportunity there was a clear sense that God is calling us to participate in this Leadership Community as we ask God “in what directions are you leading us?” While we have made significant financial and human investments in outreach to our local community as well as

measuring our growth in outreach ministries in our local community. We expect that as a result of our participation we will see a significant increase in the number of volunteers from New Hope who are involved in outreach ministry in our community and we will see a significant increase in the number of people who are touched by our outreach ministry. I am so grateful to God that Loretta Rolle and LeAnne Siddell have sensed God’s call to join me as a part of our Leadership Community Team. Over the next two years Loretta, LeAnne and I will be meeting four times with the Leadership Community Teams from other Reformed Church congregations. We will report directly to Consistory and the Outreach Team of New Hope and,

We hope you have noticed the new paint that has freshened up the lower portion of our building. Thank you to John Vickers and Creative Paints for once again providing us with all of the supplies necessary to give us a much needed face lift. Your generosity is boundless. Along with the new paint we have started the parking lot repaving. Our New Hope Preschool provided us with the majority of funds to complete the Sunday School/Preschool area. This mission of our church not only provides outreach and Christian education to our little ones and those in the surrounding community, but supports itself and provides additional funding for more functions of our church. We extend our gratitude for these examples of Christian stewardship. We have moved our recycling bin to the back of the parking lot and put in a concrete pad to prevent damage to the blacktop. We also replaced many drain tiles to improve the appearance and functionality of our parking lot. While we wish these expenses weren't necessary, we are grateful we

Year of the Bible We only have three months left in the Year of the Bible. As of October 1 we’ve read through 22 books in the Old Testament, 18 books in the New Testament, and 111 Psalms. Well done! If you are behind in the readings try and catch up as soon as you can, or just pick up the readings from the current day. You can find current and previous readings at NewHopeWorship.com/YOB. Whatever you do don’t give up! And if you have questions don’t be afraid to ask Steve or me. For the month of October, the Old Testament reading will focus on Jeremiah, and the New Testament reading will focus on the Gospel of John. May you be challenged and encouraged as we continue to read scripture together. Now for some fun…how much do you remember from our readings in September? See how many you can get right before looking up the answers (see page 4). Bible Trivia from Isaiah, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon and Hebrews 1.

Revelation by Sue Edwards Wednesdays at 12:30PM, September 10 through November 12 Facilitated by Pastor Sarah Throughout history people have speculated how the earth will end. Though it is often seen as the best source for end times study, the book of Revelation is not about predicting the end, but about preparing for eternal life. This book comes alive with color, sound, visions, songs, terror, triumph, warnings, and promises. Come and learn what this visionary and apocalyptic narrative has to teach us about the God who was, who is, and who is to come.

We have had a fabulous start to our school year! The children are adjusting and we are having fun. At the end of September we had a visit from the Fire Fighters to learn about fire safety! The children enjoyed touring the fire trucks. October at New Hope Preschool consists of Picture Day, our fall field trip, Vision Screenings, and Halloween Parades! This is the second year that we are offering vision screening. Last year two families contacted their doctor as suggested after the screening and discovered the advantage of this early evaluation. This is an important assessment and I am proud to say that two of our staff members and myself are trained to provide this screening. We continue finding new ways to provide a quality program for the children that come to New Hope. If you would like to join us for our Halloween parades they will be Thursday, October 30 at 10:45AM and 2:15PM, and again on Friday, October 31 at 10:45AM. Come join the fun!

The next opportunity to serve at HIS Place is Wednesday, October 8 at 5:30PM. Share a Simple Gift Most of us have never experienced the ordeal of living outside all winter without a coat or warm clothes. Having warm clothing is more than just a comfort issue, it's also a serious health concern for the homeless, especially homeless men. They are often seen in emergency rooms with critical wounds and illnesses caused by overexposure to cold, wet weather.
Please bless these often
overlooked brothers of ours with a gift of warm clothing this winter. New men's underwear, socks, hats, and gloves, and new or gently used seasonal outerwear are desperately needed, especially larger sizes. We will be collecting these items in the Narthex on Sundays, October 19 and October 26.
All items will be
donated to Faith Mission's downtown Columbus shelter for homeless men. Thank you for sharing a simple gift that makes such a difference.
Operation Christmas Child - Shoe Boxes for Children The Outreach Committee is coordinating Operation Christmas Child again this year and will be collecting shoe boxes filled with small gifts for children. This program is sponsored by Samaritan's Purse, which is a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to people around the world. An Operation Christmas Child table will be in the narthex in mid-October with ideas for packing a box, or visit SamaritansPurse.org/Operation-Christmas-Child for suggestions. The last day for the collection will be at the Advent Potluck Dinner on November 23. Thank you for your support in demonstrating God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world. 8
