I attend far less m ovies than I used to. I don?t know if it?s that I?m sim ply getting older or if things have changed significantly but I?m over w helm ed by the num ber of pr eview s of com ing attr actions that ar e show n befor e the featur e film . M any of our youth have attested over the year s to w hat a life changing exper ience a m ission tr ip can be and w e anticipate that this year ?s w ill be no differ ent. · Sunday, July 1 w ill be a special m or ning of w or ship. We hope to have a Wor ship Choir num ber ing far m or e than usual as w e w or ship w ith som e patr iotic hym ns and chor al anthem s. We w ill also be or daining and installing our new ly elected Elder s and Deacons that m or ning in w or ship. · Our facility w ill be teem ing w ith childr en at the end of July w hen Vacation Bible School is in session fr om July 23-27. This is alw ays a fun w eek w ith the oppor tunity to m ake a significant spir itual im pact in the lives of childr en her e at New Hope and in our com m unity. In or der for us to offer the Vacation Bible School w e desir e, w e need an abundance of volunteer s. Please consider giving us your tim e and ener gy one or m or e days dur ing VBS. · We w ill celebr ate Holy Com m union again on August 5, using the full Com m union Litur gy and passing the elem ents in the r ow s as w e or dinar ily do at our 11:15 AM w or ship. As I r eflect on this pr ogr am year , I am filled w ith gr atitude and excitem ent for w hat God is doing in our m idst her e at New Hope Chur ch. Our youth ar e gr ow ing in their faith and they ar e eager to lear n m or e about our gr eat God. They ar e discover ing daily how m uch the Cr eator of our w or ld loves them - no m atter w hat. It is an honor to be able to w alk alongside our youth in their faith jour ney. On M ay 20, w e have the pr ivilege of suppor ting 28 youth as they becom e confir m ed at New Hope Chur ch. W hat a life of faith, love, adventur e, and hope our youth have befor e them as they claim this faith as their ow n. And w hat an honor to be able to stand befor e them as a congr egation, and w itnesses to their faith to let them know w e ar e a people that w ill com e alongside of them ever y step of the w ay on their jour ney. Please be her e on our fir st sum m er Sunday to w elcom e these youth into our fam ily. Lastly, our M ission Tr ip sign-ups have begun. Pl ease h ave you r paper w or k com pl et ed an d t u r n ed i n by M ay 20. Our youth that w ent on our m ission tr ip last year continue to talk about the im pact the people they m et fr om Neon, KY have on their faith. I love that w hen w e go to ser ve other s, God blesses us by r evealing his love to us by those w e cam e to ser ve. Deb and Bill, one of the couples w e ser ved, alw ays com e up in conver sation (w hether talking about the m ission tr ip or not); they had a pr ofound
im pact on each of the youth that car ed for them and their hom e w hile in Neon. Upon m eeting Deb w e knew she w as not w ell. In the last year her diabetes had been m isdiagnosed and she flatlined at the hospital w ith her sugar s at 1500. By the gr ace of God she w as able to sur vive. Due to uncontr olled diabetes she had lost 90% of her vision to diabetic r etinopathy. Just befor e w e ar r ived, she had tr ipped and fallen; shatter ed her knee cap, and punctur ed her eye. Yet she w as celebr ating because her br east cancer had just been declar ed "in r em ission." Bill w as on disability fr om w or king in the coal m ines for 43 year s. It w as evident their health w as failing, and w e w er e ther e because they had a ver y sm all incom e and needed help fixing leaks in the r oof of their tr ailer hom e. And yet, they show ed m or e gener osity than our youth had ever seen. This fam ily had ver y little to give, but they gave it all w ith open hands and open ar m s to us. They r ecognized that ever ything is the Lor d's. They didn't hold onto anything tightly and gave aw ay w hat had been given to them so fr eely. Our favor ite stor y is on our final day Deb and Bill, thr ough tear s of sadness because w e had to say goodbye, m ade our youth the m ost extr avagant feast as a thank you for all they had done for them that w eek . On their banquet table (w hich w as a car d table outside)
they ser ved: r ibs, fr ied chicken, cor n on the cob, gr een beans, skillet cor n br ead, banana pudding, and str aw ber r y pie. It w as the m ost beautiful display of gener osity! Our youth had their fill of har d w or k that w eek r eplacing their r oof, but they didn't just com e hom e w ith new skills on how to use pow er tools. Our youth cam e hom e w ith so m uch m or e - they w er e w itnesses to people living in pr ofound pover ty w ho epitom ized the ver se in Nehem iah, "The Joy of the Lor d is your str ength."
I shar e this stor y w ith you as my plea: if you ar e consider ing sending your child on the M ission Tr ip, hesitate no longer. Register them for our 2018 M ission Tr ip to Noxen, PA. ?Kindness to children, Love for children, goodness to children, these are the only investments that never fail? ?Henry David Thoreau New Hope Pr eschool and Education Center has had another successful year ! Som e of our fr iends star ted off the year w ith tear s, but ever yone is finishing w ith a sm ile. It is har d to believe that July w ill be my 10 year anniver sar y in my position as dir ector. In 2008, (my fir st year as the dir ector ) the pr eschool had nine staff m em ber s and offer ed pr ogr am s to 132 students in four classr oom s. Over the past 10 year s, w e have pr ovided a Chr istian based pr eschool pr ogr am that now includes Kinder gar ten and is hom e to over 1800 students! We ar e m aking a differ ence in so m any lives. Each year w e have par ticipated in outr each pr ogr am s to help childr en lear n how to help other s. We have contr ibuted to Nationw ide Childr en?s Hospital, Br east Cancer r esear ch, PJ?s and Books for Kids, Autism Aw ar eness, Cancer r esear ch, the Food Pantr y, Leukem ia Pennies for Patients, Cr ohn?s and Colitis Foundation, and The National M PS society. Each one of these or ganizations touched the lives of fam ilies in our pr ogr am . In 2009 w e star ted a Scholar ship Fund and have pr ovided
full and par tial scholar ships to over 20 fam ilies in need. These scholar ships w er e pr ovided to fam ilies that have been im pacted financially or have exper ienced a fam ily illnesses. Our goal is to pr ovide suppor t to our fam ilies in need. We continue to gr ow , change, and adapt to the needs of the childr en and fam ilies at New Hope as w e adjust and add pr ogr am s and events to m eet their needs. For exam ple w e star ted offer ing extended day pr ogr am s in 2011 and in 2016, a full day Kinder gar ten pr ogr am . We also hosted a par ent night this past year , and it w as a huge success! Looking for w ar d, w e cur r ently have 204 students planning to attend our 2018-19 school year and 20 staff m em ber s to suppor t their needs. One thing that never seem s to change is the challenge to fill after noon classes. We continue to look for w ays to fill our after noon 4?s and 5?s pr ogr am s. Please help us spr ead the w or d so that w e can w elcom e m or e childr en into our pr ogr am . We continually w or k har d to im pr ove our pr ogr am s in an effor t to offer the best pr eschool and kinder gar ten in the ar ea!
