I?m in the m iddle of a tw o-w eek tour as visiting chaplain w ith law enfor cem ent per sonnel and law enfor cem ent tr ainees. It is a hum bling pr ivilege to ser ve in this capacity and to ?car e for the souls? of those w ho ar e pr epar ing or w ho pr esently ar e putting their lives on the line daily to pr otect and defend the fr eedom s that w e enjoy in this gr eat land.

This evening, how ever , my soul w as car ed for by the people to w hom I have been given the oppor tunity to m inister. I attended and par ticipated in a tim e of m usic, scr iptur e and pr ayer led entir ely by these young people. The singing w as spir ited yet theologically r ich, the scr iptur e passages poignant and pow er ful and the tim es of pr ayer genuinely hear tfelt. I felt as John Wesley did in descr ibing his exper ience at a m eeting in Alder sgate on M ay 24, 1738 w hen he w r ote that his hear t had been ?str angely w ar m ed.? By that Wesley m eant that he exper ienced a w onder ful, m eaningful spir itual m om ent that he sim ply w as not expecting. Likew ise, I w ent to this tim e of w or ship this evening sim ply gr ateful that I did not have to lead. Never theless, I have to say that I did not expect such a spir itually significant gift fr om these law enfor cem ent tr ainees.

This is a difficult tim e to ser ve in law enfor cem ent. The last 18 to 24 m onths have seen law enfor cem ent per sonnel all over this countr y subject to vitr iol and r ancor that, I?m confident, none of us w ould toler ate in our pr ofessions.

So tonight, as my hear t has been str angely w ar m ed, it?s also filled w ith gr atitude ? gr atitude for those w ho m ake it possible for m e to sleep easier at night. M or e im por tantly, my hear t is gr ateful for so m any law enfor cem ent per sonnel of deep faith and str ong spir itual com m itm ent w ho inspir e and encour age m e in my life of faith.

FINANCIAL UPDATE Lee Ver m eer , Ch ai r of t h e Deacon s lkver meer @gma il.com ? 614.766.5445 The Deacons w ant to pr ovide you w ith infor m ation r egar ding your chur ch budget so ever yone can have a better under standing of the financial pictur e that has been pr esented in the bulletin on a w eekly basis. If you have been follow ing the giving infor m ation as pr esented you w ill have noted that w e ar e r unning behind in our giving as com par ed to budget and also as com par ed to expenses. This is causing us to tr ansfer m oney fr om our cash r eser ves, w hich is a m atter of concer n to the consistor y, as it should be to all of us.

W hen w e com pleted our budget for this year w e w er e aw ar e that it w as an aggr essive budget com par ed to pr evious year s.

W ith the gr ow th in our pr ogr am offer ings and w anting to gr ow even m or e in involving the chur ch in the com m unity, the consistor y believed it w as a budget w e could and should suppor t. It w as pr esented to the congr egation and appr oved at our congr egational m eeting last Decem ber. Som e highlights include: -

The staff budget w as incr eased by $105,000 (or 27%) due to an $80,000 er r or in the 2015 budget. The actual staff budget incr ease w as $25,000 (5%). This included incr eased hour s for som e par t-tim e positions; m ost full-tim e positions r eceived a basic cost of living incr ease.

The facility budget w as incr eased by $36,000 (10%) to r eplace failing air conditioning units, at a cost of $45,000.

Additionally, the sanctuar y budget w as incr eased by $20,000 (360%) to cover a num ber of necessar y one-tim e im pr ovem ents, including a new pr ojector and scr een, painting, upholster y r epair , and sound panels.

The pr ogr am m inistr y budgets (Childr en's M inistr y, Youth M inistr y, Adult M inistr y, and M usic M inistr y) w er e incr eased by $14,000 (25%) to accom m odate gr ow th in our pr ogr am offer ings.

The benevolence budget, or New Hope's tithe to suppor t God's w or k in the com m unity and beyond, w as incr eased by $31,000 (37%). This budget is based on our estim ated giving thr oughout the year , r epr esenting 10% of our giving budget. These benevolence dollar s suppor t local m inistr ies such as the Dublin Food Pantr y and Habitat for Hum anity, national m inistr ies such as Cr u (Cam pus Cr usade for Chr ist), and seven Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica m issionar y par tner s ar ound the w or ld.

Dur ing som e m onths, our expense budget exceeds our incom e budget. This is because incom e is spr ead equally thr oughout the year , but expenses ar e budgeted w hen they ar e expected to occur. The annual budget is balanced.

Because our giving has been under budget, w e have also done all w e can to keep our expenses under budget as w ell. How ever , as noted in the financial r epor t below , our expenses have exceeded our incom e for sever al m onths. W hile w e do all w e can to be good stew ar ds of the financial gifts entr usted to New Hope, cer tain expenses ar e necessar y sim ply to oper ate our building and offer w or ship ser vices and other pr ogr am s for our congr egation's spir itual gr ow th.

This is a lot of infor m ation to absor b, but w e w ant all of you to have a com plete under standing of w her e your giving dollar s go. The m ission of New Hope Chur ch as has been continuously stated is to Reach Peopl e f or Ch r i st , Root Peopl e i n Ch r i st , an d Rel ease Peopl e t o Ser ve Ch r i st . In or der for us to fulfill this m ission w e need your full suppor t. The only differ ence is that ever yone w ill have m oved up a class, and pick up locations w ill change; details w ill be in the bulletin.

We w er e able to pr ovide a 3 m onth scholar ship for a fam ily in need and help tw o other fam ilies dur ing the holidays!

We r aised funds to suppor t childr en w ith M PS and Cr ohn?s and Colitis.

We had a gr eat tur n out for fam ily night, ever yone enjoyed our m agician!

We enjoyed having our Dads and M om s her e for their special days.

This year w e had a lot of special visitor s; an author , goldfish w ater safety, fir efighter s, and a dentist.

We also had field tr ips to Lehner ?s far m and Highbanks natur e center.

In the spr ing w e had a successful fir st tim e ever Kinder gar ten Scr eening.

The pr eschool staff w ent thr ough ALICE safety tr aining. We continue to do ever ything w e can to keep ever yone safe.

This sum m er w e w ill continue to pr epar e for next year. In pr epar ation for the Kinder gar ten Class ther e w ill be som e constr uction on the Nippa Room as w e add a bathr oom and sink to the classr oom .

We have a few Kinder gar ten spots and one after noon Pr eK spot left - all our other classes ar e now full. W hile I w ill enjoy my sum m er w ith my fam ily, I am looking for w ar d to the year ahead. Have a blessed and safe sum m er !

They also oper ate a r etr eat center that is used by local chur ches and w or k closely w ith Teen Challenge, a hor se outr each m inistr y, a hom e for at-r isk young m en, and a com m unity outr each center for youth. Shar on is a r egister ed nur se, w ho volunteer s as the cam pus nur se and helps w ith other activities such as cooking for volunteer gr oups.

New Hope Chur ch has led sever al adult m ission tr ips to Annville, KY, and last year our youth spent their sum m er m ission tr ip w ith Jackson County M inistr ies. ?People ar e sear ching for m eaning in their lives,? says Jacob M oss. ?M any know of God and m ight even call him Savior. But few call him Lor d, and they ar e m issing out on the joy of w alking w ith him .?
