One of the occasional ?Gr oundhog Day? conver sations that w e have am ong staff is about how w e can effectively com m unicate w ith the constituency of New Hope Chur ch? m em ber s and attendees. It?s a conver sation w e have over and over because, quite candidly, it?s fr ustr ating to r ealize that our attem pts ar e m oder ately successful. W hile w e do not know how m any people r ead the w eekly Infor m er that is inser ted in the w or ship bulletin, w e can tr ack how m any people r ead ?This Week at New Hope? that ar r ives via em ail ever y Fr iday after noon. By the sam e token, w hile w e do not know how m any people r ead their har d copy edition of our m onthly new sletter , w e ar e able to tr ack how m any people r ead it online. As I?ve said, our attem pts at com m unicating ar e m oder ately successful. Som ew her e betw een 30% and 35% of intended em ail r ecipients actually open ?This Week at New Hope? and our m onthly new sletter. The num ber w ho r ead an announcem ent or an ar ticle is appr oxim ately 12%. If w e com par e our selves to the industr y standar d, I suppose w e should be ecstatic w ith this r ate of r esponse. How ever , w e?r e m issing the gr eater per centage of our congr egation w ith these com m unication m edia.
I?m ver y m uch aw ar e that the pr evailing opinion is that the best w ay to com m unicate im por tant infor m ation is via an announcem ent in w or ship on Sunday m or ning. It?s only w hen one r ealizes that, on any given Sunday, w e have appr oxim ately 30% of our potential congr egation in w or ship that the star k r eality becom es clear : 70% of our congr egation is not in w or ship on any given Sunday and ther efor e m iss hear ing w hat w e w ant to com m unicate. We do r ealize that m ost of us ar e inundated w ith com m unication that is super fluous and ir r elevant. Our em ail inboxes ar e clutter ed and the am ount of junk m ail that w e r eceive thr ough the USPS is distr essing. W ith all the afor em entioned in m ind, w e?r e going to take a differ ent appr oach at New Hope. Beginning this sum m er , w e w ill offer a quar ter ly new sletter. W ith the r eduction in fr equency, w e ar e hoping for an incr ease in r eader ship. W hat w e w ant to com m unicate to you, our m em ber s, attendees and fr iends tr uly is not fake new s. We believe that it is im por tant to our life together and w e w ant you to be infor m ed of all that happens her e at New Hope. Now , I?ll be cur ious to lear n if anyone has r ead this.

Although Febr uar y is the shor test m onth of the year , it has pr oved to be no less busy! The biggest highlight of the m onth is the addition of Julie Wood as our new Financial Adm inistr ator. Julie joined our team on Febr uar y 12th and has alr eady been im m ensely helpful. Julie br ings a w ealth of exper ience to this r ole and w e ar e thankful to the Lor d for answ er ing our pr ayer s and br inging her to New Hope. Please be sur e to check out her bio below ! In other highlights, w e also enlisted Walt Buss of our congr egation to per for m a r eview of the chur ch books and financial pr ocedur es. We gr eatly appr eciate Walt?s tim e and exper tise in this endeavor and look for w ar d to addr essing any r ecom m endations he br ings for w ar d. In addition to the r eview of our chur ch books, w e have enlisted Deacon, Jeff Sneddon to over see updates to our technology platfor m w hich w ill help str eam line and
im pr ove efficiency in adm inistr ation. We ar e extr em ely gr ateful for Jeff 's w illingness to shar e his tim e and exper tise in under standing our needs and w or king to accom plish our technology goals. Included in the over all update has been the addition of a new fir ew all to ensur e secur ity of our IT infr astr uctur e by Jon Weiss. I plan to build on IT secur ity m easur es by r eview ing cur r ent oper ating pr ocedur es for oppor tunities to incr ease data secur ity. I believe I speak for the entir e staff w hen I say that w e ar e eager to lear n m or e about how to m axim ize use of new technology capabilities that w ill soon be in place. In light of the r ecent 'Taking the Next Steps" gener osity cam paign, I'd like to close w ith a w or d on giving as shar ed w ith m e by one of my long-tim e m entor s w ho also ser ves as tr easur er for a faith-based non-pr ofit. That is the r em inder fr om the New Testam ent that w e ar e encour aged to give out of a cheer ful
hear t (2 Cor inthians 9:7). God is eager to help us cultivate a hear t of gener osity that em br aces oppor tunities to give of our tim e, talents and r esour ces to help those in need! After all, He has cr eated and ow ns all things - everything w e have is a gift fr om the Lor d w ho has r ichly blessed us. As a Chur ch, w e r em ain com m itted to giving ten per cent of contr ibutions to the benevolent suppor t of other m inistr ies. W hat a joyful oppor tunity to be a par t of helping r each other s for Chr ist! Please pr ay that w e w ill continue to be "tr ansfor m ed" as w e gr ow in Chr ist-likeness (r ather than "confor m ed" to the w or ld's view of giving). And, please also pr ay that as Chur ch Adm inistr ator , I w ill exer cise Godly w isdom and good stew ar dship in the use of the r esour ces He has r ichly bestow ed on New Hope Chur ch. I gr ew up in Cincinnati and attended Ohio Univer sity w her e I m ajor ed in Accounting and Business Pr e-Law. After college, I w or ked for sever al year s in public accounting and later accepted a CFO position w ith a client. Our com m unity has felt gr eat sadness these past few w eeks. e, at r achel t M any discussions have been t eam l ead had on how to best handle the har d situations facing our childr en. I've hear d m any ideas out in the w or ld for solutions except the one that w ill actually w or k: Jesus. We m ust r aise our childr en to know that they ar e fear fully and w onder fully cr eated in the im age of a m ighty, loving, am azing God w ho pur posefully cr eated them to do His good w or ks even befor e they w er e bor n. The Bible guides us in Deuter onomy 6, w her e w e ar e told of the Gr eat Com m andm ent: Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead and write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.

M y hands w er e in the air and so w er e our daughter 's. Our childr en lear n fr om w atching us. So let them see you study your Bible. Let them see you pr aising and w or shiping Jesus. Let them see you ser ving your fellow br other s and sister s.And let them see you pr ay thr ough both pr aise and str uggle.Let them see you for give and ask for for giveness. Tell them His stor ies! This is how our childr en w ill com e to know God. They w ill know Him because w e've shar ed Him .
