Growing Our Generosity Rev. Steve Norden · norden@NewHopeWorship.com · 614.766.5445 In January of this year several of the leaders of New Hope Church met with a stewardship consultant from the Generis group as part of a generosity audit that he was conducting. The Consistory of New Hope Church had contracted the consultant’s services in order to help us consider how we can better inform our members and attendees about the privileges and opportunities that are ours as we grow in generous stewardship of our resources out of gratitude to God. The results of the generosity audit that our consultant conducted were quite interesting and informative. There were many affirmations offered in the audit. The one that some of us found most heartwarming was the consultant’s comment that, while he has the opportunity to visit many churches in his work, he has not found a congregation as welcoming and as friendly as New Hope!
That speaks well of the reception you
accorded him. See page 3
As part of our consultant’s audit, we were asked to do a “contribution distribution” report listing the amount that each household/giving unit contributed during 2014. Let me begin by assuring us all that this was completely anonymous. No names were disclosed. As Consistory members reviewed the contribution distribution, we realized that we have some real opportunities as well as some cause to be grateful. It is important to acknowledge that our information is not perfect. Still, it is the most accurate information that we are able to offer. The distribution of contributions for 2014 is detailed below.

MISSION OF NEW HOPE CHURCH: To Reach People for Christ · To Root People in Christ · To Release People to Serve Christ

Growing Our Generosity (continued) Rev. Steve Norden · norden@NewHopeWorship.com · 614.766.5445
Some other statistics stood out as well.
25% of the households/contributing units at New Hope Church
contribute 83% of our revenue. The remaining 75% of our households/contributing units contribute 17% of our revenue. And, simply for purposes of illustration, if the assumption were that everyone contributes 10% of their household income for God’s work at New Hope (which we know is not an accurate assumption), nearly 75% of the households at New Hope have an income below the 2014 U.S. federal poverty level which for a family of four was $23,600. I want us to have this information not to castigate anyone but to challenge us all. Each Sunday when the offering is received in worship, either Sarah Palsma or I acknowledge that we are a people who have been richly blessed by God. And indeed we are! So, as we consider how we can return to God that with which we’ve been blessed, consider this. What can we do to ensure that God’s work at and through New Hope Church thrives and prospers? I want to encourage each of us to grow in generosity. I’m going to challenge all of us to think and pray about growing toward the next step on this graph from where we are currently giving. Jesus challenges us when he says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

With the new year comes new resolutions. May your resolutions include the desire to Reach, Root, and Release for Christ. We as the staff of New Hope Church strive to use your resources to the best of our ability to make a difference in the lives of people as we operate as servants of our Lord. Most of us can't imagine what a struggle life can be when your most basic needs cannot be met due to financial hardships. In the month of January, New Hope helped a family who had been without work for months by paying their rent. Because of your gifts we were able to lessen their burden. I wish all of you

Kids Musical - Here for the Gold Save the date for our second New Hope Kids Musical, Sunday, April 12 at 4:00PM! We will be presenting “Here for the Gold!” to share the message of the gospel. In “Here for the Gold” a group of local kids write and produce a web streaming live show to spread the message of what is really important in life, but their show is hacked by an animated character named CG. Will they still be able to share their message? Come to the musical and find out!
Easter Choir Spring is around the corner and so are our preparations for Easter! We invite you to join us for a Special Easter Choir which will prepare to sing on Palm Sunday (March 29), Maundy Thursday (April 2), and Easter Sunday (April 5). Adult Ministry Rev. Sarah Palsma · palsma@NewHopeWorship.com · 614.766.5445 x15 · NewHopeWorship.com/Adults
Adult Sunday School - Final Words from the Cross Sundays at 9:30AM or 10:45AM Facilitated by Mark Dutton (9:30) and Rick Schuster (10:45) In life and in death, Jesus’ words were powerful and meaningful. Despite the serious effort and increased pain required for Jesus to speak as he hung on the cross, Jesus spoke seven “final words” – statements that have much to teach us about Jesus, his Father, and ourselves: Father Forgive Them Behold Your Son…Behold Your Mother My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me? Today You Will Be with Me in Paradise I Thirst It Is Finished Into Your Hands I Commit My Spirit Adults of all ages are invited to join us for Sunday School. Come when you can; there is no need to sign up, and no homework! It’s simply a time to fellowship and grow in your faith with others.
Women’s Lenten Bible Study - Pausing on the Road to Jerusalem Wednesdays 12:30PM to 2:00PM, February 25 through April 1 Facilitated by Pastor Sarah Women of all ages are invited to join this Lenten Bible study. In this study we will encounter the final weeks of Jesus’ life as we travel through the wilderness to the cross. We will also discuss various biblical themes, such as temptation, lament, repentance, and forgiveness.
Men’s Bible Study - The Greatest Liar of All Time Wednesdays 7:00PM to 8:30PM, February 4 through March 11 Facilitated by Dave Summers Meets in the Youth Room In “The Greatest Liar of All Time,” author Mark Gentry exposes the lies of the devil, who has lied about the Son of God, salvation, sin, and the Scriptures. The devil wants to counter God's plan for every person, and he pulls no punches. While God created man to bring honor and glory to Himself and to make disciples of all nations, the devil does what he can to keep lost people lost and Christians from being all that God wants them to be. Come discover God's purpose for our lives and discuss why so many listen and follow the voice of lies instead of the voice of truth. 4

Sunday School During the month of February an average of 100 kids participated in Sunday School each week. Most of our Sunday School classes learned about some of the miracles that Jesus performed. We learned that God is powerful and we can trust in him. In March we begin to prepare our hearts and minds for Easter during the Sunday School hour with stories about the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, the crucifixion, and of course the resurrection of our Lord. There is no Sunday School on March 29, as that is the day of the Easter Egg Hunt.
Kids WOW - Worship on Wednesday This year’s WOW came to a close on February 11. 70 kids per week journeyed with the Israelites from their miraculous escape from Egypt way back in October to the moment they finally took control of the land God promised them in February. All through WOW we learned with games, crafts, music, and bible lessons that we can trust God…no matter what! Mark your calendars for next year’s WOW to begin in October.
Club 45 In February we assembled at Steve and Sue Moberger’s house to create care packages for New Hope’s college students. We sent about 35 packages to students from right here at OSU to all the way to Germany to tell the college kids we love and care about them. This month we will visit the Dublin Retirement Village on Sunday, March 8.
Easter Egg Hunt On Sunday, March 29 from 1:30 to 3:00PM we will be hunting eggs, playing games, crafting, bouncing on obstacles courses, and eating some good food. You can register for this great event (and volunteer to donate supplies) at NewHopeWorship.com/EasterEggHunt. Remember to invite your friends and neighbors!

March is an exciting month at New Hope Preschool. The children have an opportunity to bring their Dads to school for a night of fun. We will have several activities for the children to do with their Dads; they will visit with our music teacher, have a visit from P.T. Reptiles, and spend time in their classrooms. During the month of February we had a special day with our Moms, “Valentine’s with Mom’s Day.” The children shared classroom time, bible time, and special snacks with their Moms. We will be hosting a family night on March 3 at 6:30PM in the Fellowship Hall. We have invited a magician to come in to perform for all of you. Please join the fun! During the month of March we will also be doing our annual outreach. This year we are participating in the Pennies for Patients Program benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please drop your pennies off at the preschool welcome center!
Fellowship NewHopeWorship.com/Fellowship
Lenten Soup Suppers Come join us for dinner in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday evenings in March. This is a special time of Lenten fellowship and devotions as we share a simple meal of soup, salad, macaroni and cheese, and dessert. Invite a friend or neighbor as we reflect on this meaningful season together.

Outreach NewHopeWorship.com/Outreach
Welcome Team Have you noticed the smiling faces at the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings? Our Welcome Team, led by Ken McNutt, is now staffing the Welcome Center before and after each service and will be available to answer any questions visitors or others may have. Welcome Team members will be identified with name tags and shirts, but in reality everyone at New Hope is a member of the Welcome Team. If you see a visitor or someone you haven’t met before, introduce yourself! Offer to help them find the answers to any questions they may have, or direct them to the Welcome Center for more information. You will also notice that all the sign up sheets have been moved from the Welcome Center to other areas of the Narthex, so please check the bulletin board or tables for that information. If you’d like to be an “official” member of the Welcome Team, contact Ken McNutt at kmcnuttclu@att.net.
Donations for the Dublin Food Pantry Through March 8, New Hope Church will be collecting non-perishable food items and personal care items such as toilet paper and diapers for the Dublin Food Pantry. Donations may be left in the blue bin outside the Fellowship Hall. The Dublin Food Pantry provides for the needs of residents in the 43016 and 43017 zip codes as well as the Dublin School District. Thank you for your continued support of this outreach effort.
Kairos Prison Ministry You are invited to help serve in the Kairos Prison Ministry of Ohio. Kairos unites Christians to make a difference for Christ in the hearts of prisoners. There are a myriad of ways to serve from prayers to writing letters to baking cookies to sponsoring an inmate to attending the closing ceremony. For more information, see the table in the Narthex at church, or visit KairosOhio.org.
Haiti Medical Mission Trip New Hope member Lynne Kelly-Johnson will be joining ten other medical professionals on a medical mission trip to Haiti March 20 through 29. The team is looking for donations of over the counter medications such as Advil, Tylenol, antihistamines, multivitamins, and antacids. A complete list of medications can be found on the Missions Table in the Narthex at the church. Donated supplies should be brought to church no later than Sunday, March 15. Thank you for your support! 7
