Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, ?Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.? (Jer em iah 1:4-5) The longer I continue in this life of faith, the m or e I pay attention to God?s call. In our Refor m ed under standing of faith, w e acknow ledge that God calls M inister s of Wor d and Sacr am ent, Elder s and Deacons. We also acknow ledge that God calls par ents, students, teacher s, doctor s, business people to their r espective m inistr ies. Our litur gy for the Or dination of Elder s and Deacons r em inds us that all baptized Chr istians have been given a m inistr y by Chr ist. I shar ed these thoughts w ith our staff r ecently w hen I intr oduced our new Chur ch Adm inistr ator. In ear ly Novem ber I w as infor m ed by Susan Eiselstein that she did not intend to continue in that position and she concluded her em ploym ent w ith us later that m onth. As w e began to sear ch for a new adm inistr ator , late in the pr ocess I began to have conver sations w ith som eone w ho has been a m em ber of New Hope for near ly 20 year s. The m or e w e spoke, the clear er it becam e that he w as being pr om pted by God to consider this oppor tunity and likew ise w e w er e being pr om pted to consider him . I am extr em ely gr ateful to let you know that I offer ed, and the offer w as accepted, the position of Chur ch
Adm inistr ator to Gr eg Cham ber s. I?ve know n Gr eg for tw enty year s and, as som e of you ar e aw ar e, he has ser ved tw o ter m s on Consistor y at New Hope in the office of Deacon. Gr eg is a per son of highest char acter and I have the utm ost r espect for him . He tr uly under stands the cultur e of New Hope, is com m itted to suppor ting our staff in m inistr y and is keenly aw ar e of the cr iticality of the Chur ch Adm inistr ator w or king collabor atively w ith the Deacons. Gr eg also w ill br ing needed stability and continuity over these next year s as w e enter into a season of change at New Hope. We w ill be in a season of tr ansition as Gr eg m oves fr om his pr esent w or k w ith Luvata to New Hope. Both Gr eg and I ar e confident that this tr ansition w ill go sm oothly and that ther e w ill be no disr uption in the life and m inistr y of New Hope. We have com m unicated w ith you r egar ding an am endm ent to New Hope?s bylaw s. We anticipate that the pr oposed am endm ent, that stipulates that a Consistor y m em ber w ho becom es a staff m em ber w ill conclude their ter m on Consistor y upon em ploym ent, w ill be appr oved by the congr egation. The second r eading and appr oval w ill be at the Tow n M eeting on Apr il 7, the sam e m eeting at w hich w e w ill elect our new Consistor y m em ber s. Follow ing that appr oval, this section of our bylaw s w ill be in for ce. Gr eg is pr epar ed to execute tr ansition to a new Chair of the Deacons over these next m onths. (Continued on Page 2)

W hat I find m ost significant is that Gr eg tr uly believes that God is calling him to this position. Gr eg is near com pletion of the thr ee year Jour ney pr ocess. One of the Jour ney?s pr incipal em phases is paying attention to God. I sincer ely believe Gr eg has done this and am gr ateful that he has said ?yes? to God?s call.
On a separ ate m atter , I w ant to let you know that our financial gener osity has been som ew hat light dur ing the m onth of Januar y. In lar ge m easur e this can be attr ibuted to our canceling w or ship on Sunday, Januar y 20. Even though you w er e not able to contr ibute dur ing w or ship on that Sunday, I w ant to encour age all of us to be faithful in our gener osity as w e give thanks to God and ensur e that God?s w or k in and thr ough New Hope continues to change lives.

M y w ife, Sue and I, along w ith our childr en, Kelly, Stephanie, Tom my and M er edith, joined New Hope Refor m ed Chur ch 20 year s ago. Since then w e have been active in the sm all gr oup m inistr ies and other com m ittees. Sue has been a m entor to m e as she joined the sm all gr oups, br ought m e along, and par ticipated in the Jour ney. It w as her par ticipation that led m e to join a Jour ney gr oup, and it w as dur ing the Year 3 Jour ney r etr eat, that I r ealized I w as being pr epar ed for a gr eater r ole at New Hope. I have been a Deacon tw ice (and I am cur r ently the Chair of the Deacons), as w ell as head of the ?M ar keting? com m ittee (back w hen Facebook w as just
getting star ted) but felt I w as being called to do som ething else, som ething m or e. Its been an exciting start to theNew Year for theYouth of New Hope! Con f i r m at i on We have 16 youth going thr ough Confir m ation this year. They ar e such an incr edible gr oup of teens: engaged w ith one another , engaged w ith the teaching, and engaged and excited about the Wor d of God. I could not be m or e gr ateful for each of them , the elder s that ar e teaching them each Sunday, and the m entor s w ho ar e choosing to w alk alongside of our youth in their faith jour ney. The pr eschool and education center has been busy enr olling students for the 2019-2020 school year. We have invited our school fam ilies to join us for this tr adition and look for w ar d to this special tim e. Febr uar y also br ings Valentine?s day celebr ations and a visit fr om a dentist for National Childr en?s Dental Health m onth. Par ent?s Night is M onday, Febr uar y 25 fr om 5:30-8:00. This is our annual outr each event w her e w e w ill be r aising m oney for Nationw ide Childr en?s Hospital. We w ill have Pitabilities food tr uck, m usic w ith M iss Annie, visit w ith the tur tle lady, a silent auction and r affle, Scholastic book fair and tim e in the classr oom for a cr aft and scavenger hunt. We invite the chur ch com m unity to visit the book fair on Wednesday, Febr uar y 27 dur ing WOW. All pr oceeds fr om this event w ill go dir ectly to Nationw ide Childr en?s Hospital.
