Recently I attended and par ticipated in my fir st, and w ishfully thinking, my last law enfor cem ent officer funer al. Officer Thom as Cottr ell of the Danville, Ohio police depar tm ent w as assassinated the evening of Januar y 17. Those of us in centr al Ohio and ar eas adjacent have r ead m any m edia accounts of this tr agedy. W hile my inclination is to com m ent on the per son w ho com m itted this atr ocity, decor um encour ages my r estr aint. If you w ant to know w hat I think , em ail m e or pr ivate m essage m e on Facebook . Ther e is good, in spite of evil, that w as evident. M y dear fr iend and colleague Father Leo Connolly, chaplain for the Fr anklin County (OH) Sher iff ?s office and City of Colum bus Police, w as absolutely m aster ful in the ser vice he conducted. M y colleagues on the M id-Ohio Cr itical Incident Str ess M anagem ent Team r ender ed ser vice that tr uly m ade a differ ence and w as healing. And, I m ust say that my faith in the citizens of our state and countr y, though not absent, w as r estor ed. I w as ver y m oved by those w ho lined the r oads and str eets fr om the auditor ium w her e the funer al w as held to the cem eter y w ho w er e flying flags and held hands over hear ts as a sign of r espect. Having exper ienced sim ulation exer cises that our law enfor cem ent per sonnel under go in tr aining, I cannot castigate law enfor cem ent per sonnel for decisions that m ust be m ade in nano-seconds. I also am keenly aw ar e of the labeling that is applied to an entir e pr ofession based on the tr ansgr essions of the few. In this m om ent, I can only say how gr ateful I am to be a law enfor cem ent chaplain. In 1990 the leader ship of New Hope Chur ch w illingly gr anted m e the oppor tunity to ser ve as chaplain for the Dublin, Ohio Division of Police. M or e r ecently, our leader ship has per m itted m e to ser ve as a Depar tm ent of Justice Chaplain. Ever y day I am thankful for and pr ay for my officer s and fr iends w ho w alk the ?thin blue line.? All I can say fr om your chaplain is, ?God bless, I appr eciate and love you, and stay safe.?

Another year com es to a close. Below is our financial sum m ar y thr ough Decem ber 31, 2015. As you can see our incom e exceeded expenses by near ly $61,000. We thank you for your continued gener osity w hich allow s New Hope Chur ch to Reach , Root , an d Rel ease so m any for Chr ist, and to fur ther the w or k of the Kingdom of God. As w e look at 2016, the Consistor y has appr oved a budget of $1,203,000. A question cam e up in the Decem ber Tow n Hall m eeting asking how New Hope accounted for m or tgage expense. This budget r eflects expensing all m or tgage cost (pr incipal and inter est). It should be noted that the Deacons have dir ected us to pay an additional $3300 per m onth to apply tow ar ds pr incipal to pay off the m or tgage quicker, and New Hope has been doing this for quite som e tim e. Right now it looks like the m or tgage w ill be paid off by 2024! Text giving continues to be a success and m or e and m or e people ar e using r ecur r ing text giving. Genesis is an event w her e students can w or ship honestly, connect r elationally, gr ow spir itually, ser ve intentionally, and play! Guest speaker Judy Peter son w ill challenge us to not just talk the talk , but r eally w alk the w alk . For her, this took the for m of w alking acr oss the United States. Judy w ill show us how to put feet to our faith. W hile the w alk acr oss the United States is how Judy fir st r eceived the nam e ?Walking Pastor,? it is her day-to-day desir e to w alk into the lives of other s that continues to m ake the title w ell deser ved. Youth w ill also par ticipate in ser vice activities m aking thousands of sandw iches for local m inistr ies. Genesis 2016 is tr uly a w eekend set aside for spir itual gr ow th, r eflection, and fellow ship w ith other Chr istian teens.

Januar y w as a busy m onth at New Hope Pr esch ool ! We star ted our new year off by enr olling over 200 students for the 2016-17 school year. Space is still available in our AM 3's, PM 3.5/4's, PM Pr eK, Enr ichm ent, and Kinder gar ten. We ar e ver y excited to be offer ing a four day full-day Kinder gar ten w ith an am azing student to teacher r atio. Please help us spr ead the w or d so that w e can r each out to m or e fam ilies! In Febr uar y the childr en invite their m om s to "Valentines w ith M om s" w her e w e plan special activities and have a gr eat tim e together. Febr uar y is also Dental m onth and w e w ill have a visit fr om a dental office to lear n about dental health. One of the m ost im por tant r esponsibilities w e have is to keep the childr en in our car e safe. W hile w e have a gr eat secur ity system , w e need to alw ays stay up to date on safety, so in Febr uar y w e've scheduled an "intr uder tr aining" as a safety r efr esher for the pr eschool staff. We never take for gr anted the tr ust our fam ilies place in us to keep their childr en safe.
