New Beginnings

The season of fall is a time for new beginnings: a new school year starts, a new season of football commences, a new promise to yourself to get back into a routine after the relaxed schedule of summer; the list goes on. What new beginning does God have in store for you?

Any time we open up the Bible and dwell in God’s word, it is an opportunity for a new beginning. Jesus ushers in new life with his presence and reminds us that each morning brings new mercies in the long legacy of God’s faithfulness We are excited about a new beginning for New Hope Church this fall as we dwell in the first half of the Gospel of Mark together This is the shortest and earliest written gospel Mark’s Gospel is passionate and concise. There’s an urgency to the telling of Jesus’ movement and actions. The words burst forth from the page in a declarative announcement: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is here, the kingdom of God is near, and Jesus is on the move!

The good news of Jesus Christ is a clarion call to action for the people of God. There’s no time to wait! If Jesus is on the move, we’d better get going and follow where he leads. The Scottish hymn writer John Bell wrote a song years ago called "The Summons.” The text of the hymn reads as questions from Jesus to those who might be willing to follow him:

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same? Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

Will you? These are significant questions for us as the church to answer. There are people who need to hear this message or rediscover the truth of God’s amazing love in the person of Jesus Christ. Perhaps, even you? Whatever your “new beginning” is this fall, we hope and pray it will be grounded in and guided by the Spirit of Christ. May we all answer the call when Jesus says, “Let’s go!”

Fall Worship at new hope

What does Sunday morning look like beginning on September 10?

9:00 am - Discipleship Hour & Kids Club

10:00 am - Worship & Children’s Sunday School

The Nursery is open during the Discipleship Hour at 9:00 am and Worship at 10:00 am.

What is happening during the 9:00 am Discipleship Hour?

Adults are invited to join a discipleship class designed for them to fellowship and grow in their faith Starting on September 10th, Shawn and Caitlin Barrett will be leading a discussion series for parents of children and youth, Mark Dutton will be leading a class focused on the prophecies of Isaiah, and Pastor Chris and Pastor Sarah invite anyone who desires to learn more about New Hope to join them for coffee and conversation. Then in October, Debra Freathy will begin a class on C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters,” and Tom Heuer will begin a class on Christian Mentoring. The coffee will be brewed, and we strongly encourage you to take this time as the Apostle Paul says, to let the word of Christ dwell in you richly (Col. 3:16) .

Youth (Middle School through High School) are encouraged to attend Sunday School with their Youth Director, Malcolm. This is a time for conversation and biblical discussion as Malcolm leads the youth through a series on key Old Testament leaders: Moses, David, and Daniel.

Children (Preschool through 5th Grade) have a new and exciting opportunity to attend Kids Club at 9:00 am!

What is Kids Club?

Think Youth Group but for kids! This is a time for kids (Preschool through 5th grade) to wiggle, worship, and wonder. Each week in Kids Club, your child will be dropped off in the Fellowship Hall to worship music and Godly play. During Kids Club, kids will gather for a Bible lesson where they will get to discuss and wonder who Jesus is and how they are being called to be His followers. Along with the Bible lesson, there will be reflection time, activities, fellowship, and prayer. Some weeks there will be a donut celebration, kids' music rehearsals, and other special opportunities. Parents/guardians are encouraged to pick their children up at 9:50 am from the Fellowship Hall and make their way to the Sanctuary for worship at 10:00 am. Please check your child in with their safety sticker as soon as you enter the building. Check-in stations are at the Preschool Door Entrance, Nursery Welcome Center, and near the Sanctuary doors.

What is available for Children during Worship?

Children are always welcome to be in the Sanctuary for the entire worship service. We also have two overflow rooms (The Wiggle Room and Cry Room) designed for families to worship together Children will begin worship in the Sanctuary with everyone and have the opportunity to attend Sunday School After the Children’s Message, the kids will be released to attend Sunday School for the remainder of the worship time

Parents will pick up their children from their Sunday School class following worship. Please check your child in with their safety sticker as soon as you enter the building.

*Please see our Children's Ministry article for more details on classrooms.

The House of the Lord

What a change a month can make! In just 3 weeks, nearly all of the church interior was repainted, our dated and worn carpet in the narthex and all halls was replaced, a new ADA-friendly playground was installed, and the garden club began the process of updating the parking lot islands. Only by the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the generous gifts of the congregation, and the support of the deacons & staff were all these updates able to be completed. We were blessed with amazing contractors that worked meticulously and tirelessly to complete all these projects on time and with the greatest attention to detail. It is so exciting to see how much fresh paint and new carpet can make entering the church so bright and welcoming.

If you were present at the July 23rd service, we shared a joyous and spirit-led experience of writing our prayers, blessings, and favorite Bible verses on the concrete floor before it was once again covered with carpet. No doubt, these blessings, and prayers will continue to strengthen and guide this house of the Lord and all those who enter it every day for many years to come

The new playground, which was funded and planned by New Hope Preschool, will now have a solid rubber surface. This new surface and play equipment will be much more accommodating for children with special needs, all while being cleaner and safer for all our little ones.

Children's Ministry

VBS: This summer, we had 220 kids attend our annual Vacation Bible School! We learned how to SHINE JESUS’ LIGHT even when life feels dark, when people don’t get along, when good things happen, when people are sad, and when people need help! Thanks to the 100 volunteers who served throughout the week, we were able to launch kids on a cosmic quest where they had a blast shining Jesus’ light to the world. The kids also worked so hard raising money to support the Cardinals team from Miracle League and our sponsored child, Santiago, from Compassion International! They crushed the $1,000 goal bringing in $1,487 80 for our missions! What an incredible week!

We’re already looking forward to next summer when we will dive into friendship with God! Mark your calendars for SCUBA VBS at New Hope Church… June 17-21, 2024!

Bookbag Blessing: On August 13th, we prayed over students, teachers, and their bookbags as they headed back to school! We continue to pray for a year full of learning, growth, and safety Children were given a keychain for their bookbag, and there are extras in the Narthex if your child didn’t receive one!

We are looking forward to an exciting Program Year in Children’s Ministry! We believe that ministry to every child is significant, and we encourage you to get involved! The Children’s Ministry Team would love to talk to you about opportunities to walk alongside New Hope’s youngest disciples.

Sunday Mornings:

Starting on September 10th, preschool through 5th graders will attend Kids Club during the 9:00 am Discipleship Hour Kids Club is a time to wiggle, worship, and wonder Each week in Kids Club, your child will be dropped off in the Fellowship Hall to worship music and Godly play. Kids will gather for a Bible lesson, reflection time, activities, fellowship, and prayer. Some weeks there will be a donut celebration, kids' music rehearsals, and other special opportunities. Parents/guardians are encouraged to pick their children up at 9:50 am from the Fellowship Hall and make their way to the Sanctuary for worship at 10:00 am. Families start together in the Sanctuary, and then children will be released to Sunday School after the Children’s message with the Pastors. Children are broken into age-appropriate groups and are guided on a foundational, Jesus-centered journey through God’s story of love. Children should be picked up in their assigned rooms after worship.

Child Check-In: If you aren’t already using our check-in system on Sunday mornings, please scan the QR code and fill out the form. Your family information will then be available using the check-in tablets to print Child Safety Stickers.

Team EveryBuddy is New Hope's Special Needs Inclusion Ministry. Throughout the summer, we have supported children in many different Children's Ministry events. Our Buddies have helped our littlest disciples attend and engage in VBS alongside over 200 of their peers. Each Sunday, we have buddies paired with kids so that they can attend Children's Church. Our Buddies also made generous donations to the Let's Flamingle For a Cure Fundraiser, which raised money for the Rett Syndrome Research Trust. Thank you to our team of compassionate and loving Buddies who allow our children of all abilities to participate in all that New Hope has to offer our youngest believers.

This fall, we look forward to growing our team of buddies as well as identifying more kids we can support through our buddy program. We are excited to see all of God's children learn more about Him through programs like Sunday School and Kid's WOW. Team EveryBuddy is there to support kids of all abilities alongside their peers

If you have a child who would benefit from attending Children's Ministry programs with an experienced buddy or if you would like to volunteer to be a Buddy, please see New Hope's website or contact Emma Vander Stoep (VanderStoep@newhopeworship.com) for more information.

Youth Ministry

Malcolm James, NewHopeworship org/Youth

It feels so good to finally be a part of the New Hope family. This year is going to be filled with fun, food, laughs, and growth. What is our relationship with God? How are we changed after our Christ experience? What are we struggling with? These are just some of the questions we are going to try to answer this year. Diving deep into scripture and applying it to life will be a driving force behind our Youth Group journey Don’t worry: it’s not all Bible verses and soulsearching questions! I’m a huge believer in rest and relaxation Being able to unplug from the world around us and getting back to having real conversations with each other and creating a true Youth Community. We’ve got some exciting things on our calendar for this fall.

media Ministry

Did you know we now have over 1000 followers (and almost 1000 likes) on Facebook and almost 400 subscribers on YouTube? In the past year, the Media Team has been instrumental in building our online presence with viewers checking in worldwide! But we need help to continue to reach those who need to hear the good news

The Media Ministry Team can be seen in the back of the Sanctuary every Sunday morning as they assist with Audio, Visual, Social Media, and overall in-person and live-stream production help for Sunday morning services. This is a vital ministry as it helps share the Gospel worldwide! If you are good with computers, video, media, and audio, you will make a great media ministry team member - and all training will be provided. Contact Michael for more information at tech@newhopeworship.com.

New Hope Preschool & Education Center

Summer was full of laughter and learning as we hosted a variety of camp programs for children, and the staff was busy planning for an exciting 2023-2024 school year.

We are especially thrilled to have funded and installed the new playground for our students and New Hope's children's ministry program to enjoy throughout the year The new playground allows more inclusive play The main play set has three different slides, a rock climbing surface, climbing cubes, a steering wheel, and a music board In addition, there is a stand-alone unity rocker, activity board, and play cube for enjoyment alongside the play set. The ground is now a poured-in-place surface providing a clean, attractive appearance and a safe fall zone for the space. We look forward to the children returning to school to enjoy this blessing.

We also look forward to our Parent Orientation meeting and playdates during the last week of August and the first day of school on September 5th! We have over 200 children enrolled in our program attending Preschool, Kindergarten, or Kindergarten Enrichment. We have several openings in our 3’s classes and will continue to enroll even after the school year begins. Most of our other classes are full, which is a testament to our exceptional program and staff.
