New Hope's Mission To Reach people for Chr ist, Root people in Chr ist, and Rel ease people to ser ve Chr ist.

I avoid Black Fr iday shopping like the plague. Still, I had to m ake a quick pur chase over the w eekend and noticed that the checkout line in the stor e w as infinitely longer than usual. And, tr ust m e, I get it. Chr istm as is the season w hen m ost of us enjoy being gener ous and, if w e ar e able to be gener ous w hile econom ically pr udent, all the better. W hat I noticed as I gazed at other shopper s in the checkout line w as the sheer volum e of w hat w as being pur chased.

As a child, I used to m easur e the quality of a par ticular Chr istm as by how m any gifts w er e under the tr ee. If the gifts spilled out fr om beneath the tr ee and beyond, that w as going to be a r eally gr eat Chr istm as! W ith age, and m atur ity I hope, I?ve com e to r ealize that the num ber of gifts under the tr ee has absolutely nothing to do w ith the quality of Chr istm as.

Chr istm as, fir st and for em ost, is about the gener osity of God. John puts it so sim ply w hen he w r ites, ?the Wor d becam e flesh and dw elled am ong us.? The sim plicity of that statem ent m ay cause us to over look its pr ofundity. The God of heaven w ho spoke all things into being, the God w ho is actively involved in the histor y of his cr eation, becam e one of us because of his gr eat love for us. In the gift of his Son, Jesus of Nazar eth, God becam e a living, br eathing hum an being so that he could identify w ith us com pletely in our hum anity. Beyond that, this Jesus lived, died and r ose again so that w e m ight be r estor ed to a r elationship w ith God and have life abundant her e, now and for ever. That abundant life takes myr iad for m s, all because of God?s gener osity to us. Ever ything w e ar e, ever ything w e have is because of God?s goodness to us.

We ar e pr epar ing for a season w hen w e intentionally focus on gener osity at New Hope Chur ch. Sever al staff and leader s ar e w or king diligently so that in Januar y w e can begin to ponder w hat it m ight m ean for each of us to Take the Next Step in our gener osity. I w on?t say m uch m or e about this now , but I do believe that it has the potential to be a significant spir itual tim e in our life together.

As w e begin this season of w atching and w aiting dur ing Advent and as w e appr oach that Chr istm as season, I pr ay that the w or ds of the Apostle Paul w ill live in our hear ts: ?Thanks be to God for his indescr ibable gift.?

This financial giving is distr ibuted by the Outr each Team to suppor t local, national, and global m issions and m inistr ies. This year w e have been blessed to give over $100,000, w hich has been used in var ious w ays to change people?s lives.

Locally, you have suppor ted 16 differ ent m inistr ies in the Gr eater Colum bus ar ea. Nationally, you have suppor ted tw o m issionar ies and five m inistr ies. Globally, you have suppor t six m issionar ies and tw o m inistr ies. Your gener osity has enabled New Hope to be w itnesses for Chr ist in the Gr eater Colum bus ar ea, acr oss the United States of Am er ica, and out to Italy, Japan, Rom ania, Om an, South Afr ica, and Syr ia.

At the annual denom inational m eeting of the Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica, New Hope Chur ch w as aw ar ded a ?M ission Im pact Par tner ? plaque. The Dr. Rev. Dann Stouten w r ote the follow ing w or ds: Rick War r en once said, ?ther e ar e those w ho m ake things happen, those w ho w atch things happen, and those w ho have no idea w hat?s happening.?
