New Hope's Mission To Reach people for Chr ist, Root people in Chr ist, and Rel ease people to ser ve Chr ist.

In m id-M ar ch I sent an em ail to the congr egation to infor m you of the state of our chur ch finances along w ith a statem ent on ?Faith and Finances: W hat New Hope Chur ch Believes About Stew ar dship.? We believe that it is im per ative that w e be as for thr ight and tr anspar ent w ith you as w e possibly can about how your gifts to the chur ch ar e used to suppor t our m inistr y as w e seek to Rea ch people for Chr ist, Root people in Chr ist and Relea se people to ser ve Chr ist.

If you w or ship w ith us dur ing the next few Sundays, you m ost likely w ill notice som e new additions in our sanctuar y that ar e dr aped in black fabr ic. These ar e stained glass w indow s that w ill be unveiled at the Tow n Hall M eeting betw een w or ship ser vices at 10:15AM on Sunday, Apr il 9. Because our financial situation at New Hope continues to be quite tenuous, I believe that it is incum bent upon m e to m ake it absolutely clear that n o Gen er al Fu n d con t r i bu t i on s w er e spen t f or t h e pu r ch ase or i n st al l at i on of t h ese st ai n ed gl ass w i n dow s.

The pur chase and installation of the stained glass w indow s is a fund r aising endeavor of the New Hope Endow m ent Fund, w hich is a non-pr ofit cor por ation separ ate fr om New Hope Chur ch. Last spr ing and sum m er a select gr oup of high capacity contr ibutor s w er e solicited and given the oppor tunity to donate a stained glass w indow for the sanctuar y by m aking a significant gift to the New Hope Endow m ent Fund. As par t of their gift, they w ill be r ecognized on a donor plaque that w ill be hung on a w all near the entr ance of the sanctuar y. These gifts have significantly incr eased the pr incipal am ount of the Endow m ent Fund, m anaged by The Colum bus Foundation.

W ith the incr ease in pr incipal, the Endow m ent Fund w ill be able to ear n significantly m or e annual inter est and, consequently, w ill be able to incr ease the num ber of gr ants given annually, the am ount of gr ants given annually, or both. The New Hope Endow m ent Fund gr ant guidelines do not per m it funds to be used for New Hope Chur ch oper ating expenses. In 2015 and 2016, gr ants w er e given to com m unity or ganizations w hose m issions fit the cr iter ia established by the Endow m ent Fund.

As w e appr oach Holy Week and the events leading up to the Passion of Chr ist, I have been r eflecting on w hat Chr ist taught us dur ing His thr ee year M inistr y. M ost of us have intentions of being Chr istlike, that is, r esem bling or show ing the spir it of Chr ist. In that spir it, I w ant to discuss w hat it m eans to ser ve God thr ough the chur ch.

Ever y Sunday befor e the offer ing is taken, w e ar e r em inded to give of our tim e, our talents, and our finances. As you have been kept abr east of our financial pictur e ever y m onth, you know that expenses have exceeded incom e for the fir st tw o m onths of this year despite our best effor ts to keep spending dow n. I know w e ask fr equently for you to give, volunteer , and par ticipate. We under stand that ever yone has m any obligations, and ther e ar e only so m any hour s in a day and so m any dollar s in the w allet.

How ever , w e'r e blessed to have a congr egation that w hen the going gets tough, they r oll up their sleeves and answ er the call. We have had special Gener al Fund donations fr om our m em ber s in the five figur e r ange, above and beyond their pledged giving. We have a handful of people w ho put on their w or k clothes and donate their tim e and talents to r epair ing br oken equipm ent, painting, r einfor cing loosened coat r acks, em ptying out the stor age ar eas, and so on. These ar e m or e often than not the sam e faces, pr oject after pr oject. These volunteer s ar e so appr eciated! The m or e of you w ho can help, the less w e have to pay vendor s to do these m uch needed tasks.

We ar e a gener ous chur ch. We give in so m any w ays to His Place, the Dublin Food Pantr y, The Salvation Ar my Safe House Pr oject, and so m any other outr each oppor tunities. We enthusiastically w elcom e m or e of you to get involved in those exper iences. One of our gr eatest outr each oppor tunities is our benevolence com m itm ent. Since New Hope's founding in 1984, each year New Hope Chur ch donates 10% of your gifts to local, national, and inter national m inistr ies thr ough our benevolence giving. In 2016 these gifts totaled over $105,000. To help you see w her e your gener ous giving goes, her e ar e the m inistr ies blessed by your gifts in 2016.

RCA Missionar ies Thr ough The Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica's Par tner ship-In-M ission pr ogr am , New Hope par tner ed w ith seven RCA M issionar ies in 2016, pr oviding m uch needed funding to allow our m issionar y par tner s to w or k for justice thr oughout the w or ld. These m issionar ies ser ve in Afr ica, Japan, Rom ania, Hungar y, Italy, and her e in the United States.

RCA higher educat ion In 2016 New Hope pr ovided financial suppor t to thr ee colleges and one sem inar y affiliated w ith The Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica. These gifts ar e used for scholar ships and other needs.

On Tuesday, M ar ch 14, Pastor Steve Nor den, w ho also ser ves as volunteer chaplain for the Dublin Division of Police, w as pr esented the Richar d S. Kassel Aw ar d for Outstanding Ser vice and Excellency in law enfor cem ent chaplaincy for Region 4 (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, M ichigan, Ohio, West Vir ginia and W isconsin) by the Inter national Confer ence of Police Chaplains. He is pictur ed her e w ith Chaplain Rick Kassel, after w hom the aw ar d is nam ed and 2015 aw ar dee, and Chaplain Jim Bontr ager , last year 's aw ar dee.

Pastor Steve acknow ledged New Hope's r ole in this aw ar d, saying, "W ithout New Hope's suppor t, I w ould not be able to ser ve as a chaplain."

They danced and played m usic w ith M iss Annie, enjoyed the Reptile Guy?s snakes, fr ogs, and tor toise, and had fun shar ing their school w ith Dad. We had so m uch fun! On St. Patr ick?s Day the childr en r an thr ough the halls tr ying to find the Lepr echaun's pot of gold; they haven?t caught him yet but they keep tr ying.

Our Outr each for M ar ch w as Nationw ide Childr en?s Hospital and it w as a huge success! Childr en and their fam ilies donated toys and cr afts, and also m ade financial donations. Som e of the donations w ill be used to pur chase w agons for the patients to r ide in and the r est w ill go to r esear ch.

Our classes ar e filling for the fall of 2017. We still have space for 3s in the m or nings and 4s in the after noon.

I am so excited to w atch as God cultivates these gifts and uses them for His glor y in the lives of our youth, and the lives of those they encounter each day.
