In this manner, all things in the Church will be done decently and in order, when faithful people are chosen, according to the rule prescribed in the Word of God. That is one of the car dinal pr inciples of our pr esbyter ial for m of chur ch gover nm ent. One w ould hope that this w ould be a car dinal pr inciple of our public gover nm ent also, although som etim es one is left to w onder. W hen m atter s ar e done decently and in or der , God?s ?business? is accom plished w ell, God?s people ar e r espected for their var ying opinions and God?s pur poses am ong us flour ish. Consistor y (your chur ch boar d) r ecently spent som e significant tim e in conver sation about how w e conduct our business decently and in or der , par ticular ly in our Tow n M eetings. Or dinar ily, our Tow n M eetings ar e quite r outine but on r ar e occasions w e m ust consider m atter s that ar e som ew hat com plicated. It is for that r eason that w e abide by Rober t?s Rules of Or der (new est edition) in our Tow n M eetings. I r ecognize and under stand that m any people ar e unfam iliar w ith
par liam entar y pr ocedur e. Unless one has exper ience in assem blies w her e par liam entar y pr ocedur e is pr acticed, it can becom e com plicated and even intim idating. I have had the oppor tunity to ser ve as par liam entar ian for the Inter national Confer ence of Police Chaplains for over a decade and on tw o occasions for the Gener al Synod of the Refor m ed Chur ch in Am er ica. I?m one of those unusual types w ho actually enjoy par liam entar y pr ocedur e! Especially in our Tow n M eetings, I w ill endeavor to guide us car efully thr ough the ins and outs of par liam entar y pr ocedur e. To help us conduct our business decently and in or der , Consistor y is m aking this r equest: If you intend to m ake a m otion in a Tow n M eeting that is m or e than a sim ple m otion (for exam ple to adjour n the m eeting) or one that is m or e than one or tw o sentences, please m ake sur e that the m otion is w r itten befor e it is pr esented to the body. Each week one of our high school youth has been leading the devotion during youth group to both middle and high school youth. The stories they share about their life, their faith, their failures, and the confidence they have in the Lord is astounding. We can all learn something from our youth. Their level of transparency and honesty is refreshingly beautiful and freeing. I could not be more proud of them! Owen Schultz has given me permission to share his devotion with the congregation. "Hello, for those of you w ho don?t know m e my nam e is Ow en Schultz, and I am a sophom or e at Dublin Coffm an High School. I?m ver y excited that Lindsey gave m e this oppor tunity to talk to you guys about my life and my faith. I hope that you guys can hear my stor y and it helps you in som e sm all w ay. I'm going to be r eal and vulner able w ith you guys, and to be honest I'm a little ner vous, so I just ask that you pay attention. So, w hen I w as gr ow ing up I alw ays w anted to be good at spor ts, but I w as never r eally anything m or e than m ediocr e even though I tr ied tons of differ ent spor ts. I blam e my dad by the w ay; did not w in the genetic lotter y ther e. I tr ied out for a ton of differ ent tr avel team s for sever al differ ent spor ts, but I never m ade any of them . It didn?t feel good. I felt like a failur e. Eventually I r ealized that I just couldn?t put my w or th in my athletic ability, so I m oved on to focusing m ostly on my academ ics. I hoped that if people knew m e as the ?sm ar t kid? they w ould w ant to talk to m e. But nobody r eally w ants to be ar ound the per son w ho acts like he?s sm ar ter than them , so this only pushed people aw ay.
How ever , I still had a few close fr iends, so I subconsciously decided to put my w or th in them . I thought, If my fr iends like m e, I?m still valuable as a per son. But as som e of you m ay have exper ienced, putting all your value in the opinions of another per son w ill alw ays end ter r ibly. For m e, it destr oyed my self confidence and just m ade things r eally difficult for a w hile. At the beginning of fr eshm an year , I w as pushing thr ough the fir st few m onths of high school, still tr ying to figur e out w hat w as going on at this new place and I began to notice that my best fr iend since fir st gr ade w as acting a little bit cold tow ar ds m e. He w ould cut conver sations shor t w hen I tr ied to talk to him at football gam es and w as gener ally passive-aggr essive tow ar ds m e. Eventually I texted him to ask w hat w as w r ong. He w ouldn?t give a str aight answ er and eventually I called him . On that call he str aight up told m e he didn?t w ant to be fr iends anym or e. I w as cr ushed. I had to do a lot of hiding my tear s for the w eeks after that hor r ible phone call. It felt like my life w as cr ashing dow n ar ound m e. Ever ything that I thought I could tr ust suddenly cam e into question. It w as r eally har d to go to school because I felt alone for so long. W hile this w as all happening I w as m eeting a lot of new people because I had joined the r ow ing team and they?ve told m e r ecently that I bar ely talked that fall season. These ar e som e of the people I am now closest w ith and I could bar ely talk to them because I w as tr apped in a per m anent state of fear and distr ust. It m ay seem like an over r eaction but it w as so har d to have the one per son I thought I could count on suddenly give up on m e. A m ajor pillar of my life instantaneously cr um bled to the
gr ound and I had to scr am ble to keep fr om falling w ith it. Then I w as petr ified that ever ything else I had built up w ould fail on m e to. Ther e w er e som e tim es w her e I alm ost consider ed giving up. Now God has built a new pillar that is able to fully suppor t m e if another im por tant par t of my life fails and I don?t need to be scar ed of losing ever ything because I w ill have him for eter nity. But I?m getting ahead of myself. For som e context about my faith at this per iod, it basically ended at the door s of the chur ch. I said I w as a Chr istian, but it w as r eally only because I w as for ced to. I had som e fr iends at the chur ch but I w ould do anything I could to avoid com ing a lot of the tim e. For a w hile, I didn't have m uch to fall back onto. I bet m ost of you have hear d the chur ch song they teach to little kids that says ?The w ise m an built his house upon the r ock? and ?The foolish m an built his house upon the sand.? That?s w ay m or e tr ue than I ever r ealized. Building your life on anything that isn?t God is cer tain to end w ith ever ything cr ashing dow n. M y life w as built on that sinking sand, so I w as r eally str uggling for the beginning of last year until the youth gr oup w ent to Genesis in M ichigan. I vividly r em em ber a passing com m ent that Em m a W ilson, w ho gr aduated last year , m ade after w e played car ds. She just said ?Schultz is fun?. That's it. She didn?t even know I w as str uggling at that tim e, and she w asn?t tr ying to change my life, but that little com m ent m ade m e feel like I belonged to som ething for the fir st tim e in a long long tim e. I never r eally m ade a str ict decision to take my faith m or e ser iously, but as I continued to hang out w ith all these aw esom e
people at the chur ch and at Young Life I absor bed w hat w e w er e taught and gr adually decided to live for God. Ever ything in my life becam e differ ent. W hen I w ent to Young Life Cam p, ther e w as this 30 foot telephone pole called the Pam per Pole. I'm pr etty sur e it w as called that because you needed a diaper because it w as going to m ake you poop your pants. The idea w as you clim bed up it and jum ped off to gr ab a bar. But the har dest par t w as keeping your balance as you tr ied to stand on the sm all, shaky top platfor m . I im agine if you stood up ther e long enough you w ould for get w hat it w as like to stand on the fir m solid gr ound. This is w hat my life w as like w ithout that fir m foundation. I w as str uggling to keep my balance and eventually I fell. But the nice thing about the pole w as if you fall ther e w as a r ope to catch you and low er you back dow n. I?m so lucky that God w as able to catch m e and car r y m e back to the fir m , solid gr ound. W hen I w as in confir m ation, my m entor , Br andon Lew is encour aged m e to sear ch the Bible for a single ver se to m em or ize. After sear ching Google for ?good Bible ver ses", The ver se I chose w as Jer em iah 29:11, w hich says ?For I know the plans I have
for you,? declar es the LORD, ?plans to pr osper you and not to har m you, plans to give you hope and a futur e.? I r em em ber ed this ver se dur ing this tim e per iod I?ve been talking about, and it r em inded m e that God?s intent w as not to har m m e and as long as I stayed in him I w ould alw ays have hope for my futur e. God w ill never abandon m e like that fr iend did and he w ill alw ays let m e r etur n to his solid gr ound. Since joining young life and becom ing m or e involved her e I have found so m any gr eat people w ho actually car e about m e and don?t look at their fr iends as tr ophies they can display to show how ?popular ? they ar e. The num ber of r eal conver sations I?ve had in the last year dw ar fs all of the year s befor e that com bined. The w ay that I got my life in contr ol w as to give up contr ol to God. Another ver se I m em or ized r ecently after it w as the focus of our Young Life Cam paigner Day, w hich is a day-long confer ence w ith a bunch of speaker s, but they each incor por ated this ver se into their talks. The ver se is John 16:33. It says ?I have told you these things, so that in m e you m ay have peace. In this w or ld you w ill have tr ouble. But take hear t! I have over com e the w or ld.? I think that
w e don?t focus enough as Chr istians on the fact that ther e w ill be har d tim es in our life. The Bible str aight up says that life is going to be har d. But w e have the cr eator of the entir e w or ld on our side. The pow er s of the devil cannot hur t m e as long as God, w ho has over com e all ear thly things, is on my side. Ther e?s even an exclam ation point. I could be w r ong but I don?t think ther e ar e ver y m any exclam ation points in the Bible, so it r eally sticks out as im por tant to m e. God has over com e the w or ld, so w e don?t need to str ess about the tr ouble in our lives too m uch. So I w ant to leave you guys w ith this last ver se. It says ?I have been cr ucified w ith Chr ist and I no longer live, but Chr ist lives in m e. The life I now live in the body I live by faith in the son of God, w ho loved m e and gave him self for m e? and thats in Galatians chapter 2 ver se 21. This is the ver se that I tr y to live by, and I?m far fr om per fect. I?m still tr ying to lear n to tr uly love this book, let go of my pr ide and be w illing to give up ever ything I have to pour into other s and God. But my old uncer tain life of betr ayal is gone because the per son I have now put my tr ust in is actually w or thy of that tr ust, and that's r eally m ade ever ything so m uch better."

As w e pr epar ed for the par ent teacher confer ences, w e w er e pleased to shar e the pr ogr ess of the students w ith the par ents. It is gr eat to see the lear ning that is taking place and w e appr eciate the r einfor cem ent par ents pr ovide at hom e. We pr esented our donation check of $5261 to a r epr esentative of Nationw ide Childr en?s Hospital in Fellow ship Hall. The childr en gather ed, shar ed their m em or ies of Par ent Night and w e explained how that fundr aiser is now pr oviding for the childr en at the hospital. The Kinder gar tner s w er e excited to pr esent the books w e had to donate. In Apr il, w e w ill have the Pow ell YM CA sw im coaches
pr esent w ater safety for the childr en to pr epar e them for sum m er fun. In addition, w e w ill have butter flies and m oth chr ysalis ar r iving to enjoy w atching the life cycle of those insects. M any field tr ips w ill take place in Apr il. Kinder gar ten w ill be going to Str atfor d Far m s and other classes w ill be going to Ohio W ildlife, Olentangy Caver ns and a par ent and child painting exper ience. We ar e continuing to r eceive inter est for enr ollm ent in our Kinder gar ten and pr eschool classes for next year. Got theWord? I gr ew up listening to my Dad r ead us Bible stor ies ever y night at bed tim e. Dad often let us pick the stor y for the evening. M y favor ite stor y cam e fr om Exodus w ith the plague of the fr ogs. I loved the pictur es of the fr ogs in the old pictur e Bible w e had. It show ed the fr ogs com ing out of ever yw her e! M y Dad m ust have r ead it at least 100 tim es. Recently, I had the oppor tunity to discuss the Bible w ith my Dad, w ho is now 74 year s old. I w as am azed to r eflect on how those nightly 10 m inute r eads played such an instr um ental par t in w ho I am as a child of God; and how my father view ed his r ole in par enting childr en of God.
He knew his job w as to shar e God?s stor y w ith us. We (ther e ar e 4 of us) ar e blessed to have par ents w ho shar ed not only God?s stor y w ith us, but also His Wor d. Deuter onomy 6:5-9 tells us, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words that I give you today. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you?re at home or away, when you lie down or get up. Write them down, and tie them around your wrist, and wear them as headbands as a reminder. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Spend som e tim e in the Bible w ith your childr en. A few m inutes w ill im pact their entir e lives. Blessings, Rachel Tate

Club 45 Chatter Club 45 had a fantastic M ar ch gather ing hosting the fir st Lenten Soup Supper.
