I anticipate that, by the tim e you r ead this, the global Chur ch w ill have celebr ated All Saints Day, this year on Sunday, Novem ber 1. We have not m ade m uch of this obser vance at New Hope over the year s, per haps to our detr im ent. I w onder if w e?r e hanging on to sentim ents that w er e pr evalent dur ing the Pr otestant Refor m ation and m isunder standings of w ho saints ar e and w hat r ole they play in our life of faith. We do not believe that the saints ar e inter m ediar ies betw een us and God. Scr iptur e m akes it clear that w e have com plete access to God thr ough Jesus Chr ist and ther e is no one thr ough w hom w e m ust appr oach God or w ho w e m ust ask to pr ay on our behalf. Neither do w e believe that saints ar e those w ho ar e som ehow spir itually super ior, having attained that r ever ed status by extr aor dinar y devotion to God. The New Testam ent w or d for saints is hagioi, liter ally ?holy ones.? Quite sim ply, a saint is one w ho lives in r elationship w ith God and endeavor s to conduct her or his life accor ding to the pr ecepts that God has given in scr iptur e. By that definition, all w ho live in faith ar e saints. Still, ther e is benefit, I believe, in r em em ber ing and cher ishing the legacy of those w ho have lived and died in faith and now ar e par t of that ?gr eat cloud of w itnesses? that the w r iter to the Hebr ew s identifies in the tw elfth chapter of that letter. The im age is one of those w ho encour age us by their exam ple and w ho, in som e sense, ar e in the pr esence of God cheer ing us on in our life of faith. This has been a ver y difficult year for m e as I have had to say ?goodbye? to saints that I have loved and cher ished. I know that m any of you shar e my gr ief. So, if you r ead this befor e Novem ber 1, I encour age you to obser ve w ith gr atitude All Saints Day. And, if you r ead this after that day, I sim ply ask that you r em em ber those w ho have blessed your life. I, for one, w ill give thanks to God for the saints fr om New Hope w ho dur ing this year passed fr om life tem por al to life eter nal:

The fir st tim e you use text or online giving you'll be asked to set up an account. This takes less than five m inutes using a fully autom ated, secur e online pr ocess. Once you'r e r egister ed, it is super easy to give. You can do a one tim e gift, or set up r ecur r ing giving on a w eekly, tw ice m onthly, or m onthly basis. As w e r oll out this new technology, initially your gifts w ill all go tow ar d tithes and offer ings. In the com ing w eeks w e'll intr oduce the ability to use Sm ar t Giving to pay for bible study m ater ials, r egistr ation fees for childr en's pr ogr am s, and m or e. We ar e w or king on gr ow ing the cultur e of gener osity by pr oviding sim ple and r elevant w ays to give. The goal is to incr ease gener osity by m aking giving easier, especially for people w ho don't car r y cash or checkbooks, or for those w ho m ight not be able to attend w or ship ever y Sunday. Other chur ches have seen that 20% to 30% of those w ho give online or by text had never given to the chur ch befor e! Giving is not m er ely a tr ansaction. The exper ience of giving should r eflect the natur e of giving. This technology lends itself back to a par ticipator y act of w or ship. In October, our Deep Blue cur r iculum continued our jour ney thr ough the stor ies of the Patr iar chs found in Genesis. In Novem ber, w e w ill focus on Jacob and how he is an illustr ation of how ?God blesses us.? Deep Blue has a fr ee app that you can dow nload by sear ching ?Deep Blue? in your app stor e. This w ill allow you to br ing the Sunday School lesson into your hom e in engaging and age appr opr iate w ays. Ther e is no Sunday School on Novem ber 29 due to Thanksgiving.
In October dur ing Or ange our pr eschooler s thr ough 5th gr ader s studied how God has given each one of us a unique ?Identity.? We all have a special par t to play in God?s stor y, and like our m odel, Tim othy, w e see that God is able to use even younger ones to m ake a differ ence for him in this w or ld. We w ill continue in the Fellow ship Hall Sundays at 10:15 w ith another vir tue for Novem ber.

Our Wednesday night pr ogr am , Kids WOW, began on October 14. We spend Wednesdays fr om 5:30PM till 7:15PM lear ning about ?Hom etow n Nazar eth: W her e Jesus w as a Kid.? Thr ough gam es, cr afts, dr am atic r etelling of bible stor ies, and song, w e get to exper ience how our lives today in m any w ays ar e not that differ ent fr om the life of our Savior over 2,000 year s ago. Our 4th and 5th gr ader s had a blast passing out candy (and eating it!) and infor m ational flyer s at the Dublin Spooktacular on October 15. We passed out alm ost 2,000 flyer s and over 6,000 pieces of candy at this event. October w as a ver y busy m onth at New Hope Pr esch ool ! Our fr iends at Squ i er Ph ot ogr aphy took our class photos, w e took a tr ip to Lehner 's Pum pkin Far m and enjoyed a fun hayr ide and lots of other activities, and w e had a visit fr om the Fir efighter s! It w as so m uch fun to check out their tr uck! We also conducted vision scr eenings, and w e can't for get our Hallow een Par ade! Thank you to all the special fr iends for helping pass out candy. We r ecently r enew ed our Step up to Quality r ating and have alr eady had our annual visit fr om licensing. It is nice to be acknow ledged for our har d w or k and dedication to the childr en, but our r eputation m akes the biggest im pact on our enr ollm ent. In Novem ber Colum bus Speech & Hear ing w ill be her e to scr een our pr eschool students. This evaluation pr ovides the par ents w ith know ledge r egar ding their child's developm ent. We schedule this scr eening r ight befor e our Par ent Teacher Confer ences, pr oviding the teacher s w ith one m or e assessm ent to use dur ing our Novem ber Confer ences. Our annual Tur key Tr ot fundr aiser w ill be held on Novem ber 17 and 18. The childr en w ill tr ot, cr aw l, and dance thr ough the halls in their tur key hats as w e r aise m oney for our pr ogr am . I appr eciate the continued suppor t of the pr eschool. I feel ver y blessed to w or k w ith such a w onder ful staff and childr en, som ething that I am gr ateful for ever y day.

New Hope?s youth ar e investing in the chur ch and lear ning the im por tance of being active in a chur ch body. They shar e their tim e thr ough volunteer ing at VBS, Spor ts Cam p, usher ing, choir, and m any other ser vice oppor tunities. In the past year, youth have donated over 1500 hour s to the chur ch. Our youth ar e suppor ted thr ough your gener ous donations and faithful pr ayer s. Recently, Bever ly Robinson w as able to confir m our r ecipient par tner w ill be Colum bus Public Schools, w ho thr ough their teacher s w ill identify kids w ho have a need for a new w inter coat. On Novem ber 17, Club 45 kids have been invited to the Colum bus School boar d m eeting to be r ecognized for their w or k in the com m unity. Now it's up to us to fulfill the goal of 200 new coats. So far w e have collected appr oxim ately 120 coats, along w ith cash and check donations and gift car ds that can be r edeem ed to buy coats. Help us r each our goal! You m ay br ing your donations to the chur ch dur ing Novem ber. We can't w ait to see w hat the Lor d w ill do w ith this unique oppor tunity to w itness w ith w ar m coats in the city schools.
