Focus: How effectively is our RSHE, PSHE

and British Values curriculum delivered?

RSHE, PSHE and British Values are not taught as discrete subjects but as a series of threads delivered through our ambitious and broad curriculum offer.

Our students take pride in their school, learning and personal development, and relish the wide opportunities for student leadership. The schools’ vision and values instil a deep sense of integrity. Extensive curriculum opportunities include Philosophy for Children (P4C), Talk 2 Learn (T2L), Thought of The Week (TOTW), Diversity and Equality Month and Health Awareness Week. We fully comply with the latest RSHE statutory requirements and student voice plays an integral part in how the curriculum is shaped We have been awarded “Healthy Relationship School'' status, both by Tender and by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime We ensure students understand the nature and application of the Equality Act 2010, thus creating a harmonious school environment which recognises the protected characteristics. Our high quality CEIAG programme results in the vast majority of students progressing to further education, employment or training.

What is P4C?

P4C (Philosophy for Children) is an approach to teaching and learning that explores the big ideas that arise in all areas of education and life experience P4C uses philosophical dialogue and enquiry to help learners to think, to speak, to listen, to learn and to live together more effectively.

P4C involves regular classroom enquiries in which children, young people or adult learners share a stimulus, identify concepts — such as equality, identity, truth and beauty and formulate questions that capture what they find curious.

With the support of a teacher as facilitator, P4C participants explore these questions drawing on the perspectives of others to deepen their own understanding. P4C concludes with reflection on the process of enquiry and on the skills and dispositions that P4C develops: critical, creative, caring and collaborative thinking. During these reflections, learners also influence the direction of their next enquiry.
