Rokeby School celebrated World Book Week by paying tribute to Benjamin Zephaniah and exploring his fantastic literature.

There were so many different activities through out the week: The Big Read- all students, staff and governors received a copy of Refugee Boy by Benjamin Zephaniah to read and enjoy Department Doors - departments decorated their doors to showcase one of Zephaniah's texts Big Feast - students who made exceptional progress were invited by their English teachers to come to the feast Spelling Bee - Y7 students participated in a challenging Spelling Bee WBD - all students took part in the special world book day quiz and enjoyed teachers dressing up

Careers Week - the FCA come to Rokeby

As part of Careers Week, the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) came to Rokeby to run workshops and share their experiences. Y11 students had a careers insight session which was led by Dominic Holland and ex-Rokeby student Daniel Clarke.

Kishor said “the volunteers told us that hard work and dedication were important for us to succeed. They also taught us that life skills really count when you’re working”

Y9 students took part in a Goals and Aspirations workshop with the FCA which made them think about their future targets for life. Konstantin 9Y said “the FCA volunteers were very polite and they asked us about what we want to do in the future. They asked us who inspires us and why we find them inspirational. The session was really good it helped us understand that even if you’re not good at something you can find a way to succeed”

Y7 students looked at the importance of consumer rights. The facilitators from the FCA helped them understand how to spot opportunities and how to use problem solving in unique situations. Ishaq Achour said “One of the FCA’s key goals is to ensure that consumers' money is safeguarded against faulty products and services”.

School Council Menu Consultation

“In the school council meeting we looked at the importance of a plant based diet and how meals like this reduce greenhouse gas emission. We also found out that meals including beef and chicken produce more greenhouse gas which is not good for the environment.

We want to make the vegetarian meals sound more appetising so we worked on the names of a few dishes on the school menu for Rokeby as well two other schools and a college. We want to make all the meals on Monday plant based or vegetarian. Not only is this good for the environment, it also improves our health.”

Two teams are preparing for the semi final round in June 2024. Well done Ajmain Hanif, Mahbub Tamjid, Kazi Ahanaf Adil and Rizwan Hoque. Always Dare To Be The Best

It is also worth remembering that you are surrounded by precious, supportive, worthy gentlemen who have a lot of respect for every woman at Rokeby and they for sure understand the hardship that you face.
