*NVR - A system for a relational behaviour approach Why don't sanctions work for some students? How can parents be supported to address their child's behaviour in school and at home? What works to change challenging behaviour and support those with SEMH? This workshop is an introduction to non-violent resistance, a CAMHS-based intervention with emerging use in school behaviour approaches. This would reinforce the understanding of pastoral, safeguarding, and behaviour leads but be of interest to any teacher or parent!

*Introduction to emotion coaching The workshop will outline different parenting styles, including the style termed “Emotion Coaching” by John Gottman, and outline how parenting styles can be extrapolated to explore relationships between adults and children in schools. Participants will learn the three key steps involved in this practical approach to supporting children’s development of emotional literacy skills.

Attachment in the classroom (Intro to attachment theory) The workshop will introduce the core concepts of John Bowlby’s Attachment Theory and explore how these are relevant within the school and classroom contexts. An understanding of attachment theory is useful for helping to understand and reframe children’s behaviours that adults experience as perplexing, distressing, or challenging.

Adapting PE for children with SEND This workshop will cover a range of strategies which mainstream teachers can use to support inclusion and engagement within PE. +The A to Z of Occupational Therapy Discover the world of occupational therapy in our upcoming workshop. Delve into understanding how OT can empower children with additional needs to excel not only in the classroom, but also in their day-to-day lives. In this workshop, we will introduce our OT resources which contain quick tips and effective strategies for independence that will help unlock a world of potential for the children you support.

Think language... the connection between SEMH and SLCN 66% of children excluded from school have speech, language, and communication difficulties and differences.

These typically aren't recognised until these children present at PRUs, mental health units, and the criminal justice system. Why not? This workshop outlines: the connection between speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH); the impact SLCNs have on mental health and behaviour; and how we can disrupt the exclusion trajectory for some of these children.

+Introduction to adolescent development The workshop will outline the meaning of the term “adolescence” and explore the tasks of adolescence as a life stage. We will then find out about the adolescent brain and link brain development to adolescent behaviour.

Finally, we will explore approaches to connecting successfully with adolescent students.

Anxiety in the classroom The workshop will outline the evolutionary basis and physiology of anxiety, introduce a cognitive/ affective/ behavioural/ physiological model, and move on to explore how anxiety can manifest in the classroom context. Finally, we will consider approaches to managing and reducing anxiety through classroom practice.

What is the Graduated Approach? How can I understand an individual pupil's learning needs and how to adapt lessons for them?. What is the Engagement Model and who is it for?

This workshop will look at assessing pupils with additional needs and how this information can then be used in the classroom to enable them to make good progress. It will consider how we use the Engagement Model for our most complex learners.

+What do we mean by modelling? How does modelling make the content accessible for all? How should exam-style skills be broken down?

This workshop will look at how we model key words and Jack paragraph structure to make our lessons as accessible as Agamemnonos (AL possible. We will focus on the secondary curriculum so at Eastlea) that students are given the foundations to apply their critical writing skills from KS3 to KS4. Examples will be based on history lessons but will be applicable for most subjects.

We explore the skills that these pupils need in order to take part in the oral and literacy tasks in the classroom. We also look at ways of developing thinking skills in relation to content and language.

+Developing the Language and Literacy of Advanced EAL Pupils in the Classroom This workshop will focus on developing more fluent listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in ‘developing’ and ‘competent’ EAL pupils, with benefits to the whole class. EAL pupils will benefit from precise teaching and feedback to improve their language skills in key areas. Teaching staff will be equipped with tried and tested classroom strategies that can be easily adapted for every day teaching and learning.

Reading Fluency Instruction In this session, we will share the impact that reading fluency instruction can have on struggling readers across KS2 and KS3. Many children do not effectively bridge the gap from word reading into comprehension. We will share some strategies, based in research, which have been proven to raise reading achievement in a short space of time. This workshop is suitable for all subjects, not just English.

+Fixing Full Stops Taster Workshop Reminding children to remember to use full stops and capital letters is not enough. Instead, teachers need to be armed with strong subject knowledge and a set of tried and tested tools and approaches that can help children to improve in this area. This workshop will offer an overview of some of the strategies used on our hugely successful Fixing and Securing Full Stops Projects. This workshop is suitable for all subjects, not just English.

You will leave with a whole toolkit of options to facilitate more accessible learning in your classroom.

+Texthelp Texthelp is Assistive technology which has tools for literacy, numeracy and STEM. At Rokeby we have just invested in 2 tools that Text help offers: Read&Write and OrbitNote. Our short term aim is for the students that qualify for a reader in their GCSE exams to use this programme in the series 2024 exams. Ultimately, the programme will offer so much more for teaching and learning and this workshop will be an introduction to the most basic features. If IT permits it, there will be an opportunity for some personal exploration.'
