NO DEVICES = NO DISTRACTIONS

Issue 3 | Autumn 2024

NO DEVICES = NO DISTRACTIONS

At Rokeby School we are working hard to ensure that students stay focused on their learning. We know that mobile phones and other electronic devices negatively affect concentration and can lead to fatigue, headaches, anxiety and other mental health concerns. We know that social media (X, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat...) can be a huge distraction and can be used to cause hurt and promote negativity if not used responsibly. We offer our students the opportunity to hand their devices into reception every morning so that they are safe but not a distraction. We understand that as parents you may want your son to have a phone travelling to and from school which is why we offer this facility. Many phones and devices are very expensive and handing them in at reception ensures that they are kept safe. Please encourage your son to do this and make it a good habit. If it is not handed in, devices need to be switched off and put in school bags (not in blazers and pockets). If a device is seen it will be confiscated, a behaviour point issued and it will be returned to the student at the end of the day. If it happens again, a parent/carer will need to come from home to collect it and meet with a member of staff to discuss our concerns. If at any point in the day you need to contact your son or he needs to contact you, this can happen through our school reception. If you have any questions, please get in touch to discuss.
