TALK 2 LEARN Rokeby School Awards BY BY SHLOK SHLOK PATEL PATEL 8R 8R

Talk 2 Learn is a whole year group debate which runs every term at Rokeby. The motion this term was “Protests only divide people”. Students in Y8 prepared for the event in Art, Creative Arts, Humanities and English. Not only was this the first time the proposition team had won, but the judges were deliberating for over well five minutes! The judges were Mr Bailey (The Head of English), Ms Ward (Key Stage Coordinator) and Mr Leslie, who is the the CEO of REIN (Rights and Equalities In Newham) and also our Chair of Trustees at NCL (Newham Community Learning Trust). Although the winners of this year’s debate were ROK students, Wais Hussain in 8Y (who against the motion, was the winner of the best speaker award for his developed responses to questions and his powerful point on how the Civil Rights Movement brought people together. The representatives of ROK and the winners of this year’s Talk 2 Learn are: Qaasim Abbas 8R, Nusair Mohamed Nasvi 8O, Samuel Otunuga 8K and Shlok Patel 8R. Well done to the EBY students who also took part: Wais Hussain in 8Y, Samir Hossain 8B, Anas Ali Khan 8B and Fazal Shah 8Y. Well done to everyone involved!

Y7 and 9 Football Tournament at West Ham Foundation Very well done to the Y7 football team for winning the West Ham Foundation tournament beating St Bonaventure's in the final. Stand out performances from Goodness Iyawe scoring a hatrick in the group stages to secure the team taking the top spot and to the player of the tournament Nobel Tesfu. Congratulations also to the Y9 team. Outstanding performances by Adil Khaksar and Sarim Adeel saw them narrowly miss out on the semifinals by one goal.

Y7 and Year 8 Table Tennis Our Y7 and 8 Table Tennis team took on Oaklands school last week ending in a fantastic 13-3 win for Rokeby School. Special congratulations to Raikhan Sapi for his player of the tournament performance in his first competition.

Your paragraph text School Y9 Football match against Kingsford Congratulations to our Y9 football team for their brilliant 3-0 win against Kingsford School. An amazing performance from player of the match Yasin Hussain who controlled the midfield as well as contributing with a goal. Special mentions to goalscorers Abdulmarteen Omigiji and Dominic Arthur for another fantastic captain's performance as well as D’Dre Thorne St-Louis for his confident performance in goal.

GCSE DT : LED FRAME PROJECT Y10 students spent nine weeks producing a prototype of a layered image on 2D Design which was cut on the laser cutter. Students were set a design challenge to create an LED framed picture targeted at 12-15 year olds. Their pictures were inspired by a range of themes, popular tv characters, sports as well as cultural influences.

The frame was made out of plywood, had finger joints and included LED lights. Some skills students developed included;2D Design: CAD, Laser cutting: CAM, Soldering and Wood joints.
