On Tuesday 21st May, filmmakers from Newham Music came to Eastlea to film clips of Keyboard Club and Eastlea Rising Stars. They havebeenchosentobepartofadocumentarybyDrAllyDaubney,a musician, teacher and educator who is at the cutting edge of music education research. Dr Daubney wanted examples of excellent musicianship in Newham, and Eastlea students were so keen to play and to also explain what music meant to them. We were very proud of the students and their answers! We will be sure to share the documentarywhenitcomesavailable.

Year 9 Aviation Sustainability Competition

This week, some of our Year 9 students took part in an Aviation sustainability competition. They have had 3 workshops to research how airline companies can comply with their Net 0 emissions target and produced innovative solutions to work towards this. Their final presentation was delivered to our Eastlea Eco Project Group who were able to give feedback and select the winners with the best sustainability solutions. The judges were fierce with their questions and will be announcing which group will go along to compete against other schools and JetBlue airlines after half term.

NEWHAM ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday, 23rd May, 25 students from Eastlea Community School took part in the Newham Athletics Competition. The students competed in events such as shot put, long jump, triple jump and all the track events. Eastlea found success in the year 8/9 800m for boys, with Oliver being crowned Newham’s new under-14 800m champion and Rime won 200m for girls. The relay races highlighted how excellent our students' teamwork skills are as they won the year 10 boys andgirlsrelays.
