Dyslexia Corner

Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty and also links in with neurodiversity and as a result it can co-occur with other conditions, shown in the diagram here. (ortongillinghamonlinetutor.com, 2018).
The most common condition that dyslexia co-occurs is with ADHD/ADD this can affect concentration and working memory. It can also co-occur with; DCD dyspraxia that affects motor skills, memory or speech. Autism; affecting communication or displaying repetitive behaviour. DLD developmental language disorder affecting poor comprehension, reading and spelling skills. Dyscalculia affecting mental maths and not understanding the position of numbers. Anxiety and mental well-being and also visual disorders that can affect eyes getting sore or losing your placewhilst reading.
These conditions not only affect 1 in 10 children with dyslexia, but also many adults, who may not be aware. In a recentarticleby the professional writer Georgina Fuller she talks about her diagnosis as an adult with dyslexia and also ADHD. She not only explains the struggles she had at school with her reading and writing but also with supporting her own children. For further information please do not hesitate to contact the inclusion department. Also look out for further information regarding an up and coming coffee morning for parents with dyslexic pupils in school. Ms Hayibor, Inclusion Teacher
