Welcome from the Principal We are once again pleased to invite the many fine young and talented players, dedicated staff, parents and supporters to New Hall for our Rugby Colts Festival. It is a delight each year to be able to see the values of teamwork and respect that rugby offers being displayed by the young players, as it reflects our own school ethos. Together with the sportsmanship and discipline that all of the coaches instil, it will undoubtedly be a very keenly contested tournament. We wish all players every success.

Welcome from the Head of Preparatory Division As Head of Preparatory Division, I have been delighted to see the enthusiasm for PE and Sport over my short time here, and look forward to seeing these students journey progressing further. In addition to the curricular excellence we offer, we are proud of the sporting development that our children make during their time in the Preparatory Division and the values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment and discipline that are so embodied by participation in rugby. The day will, I am sure, be full of opportunity for all to show their true potential.

Welcome from the Head of PE & Sport It brings me great pleasure to welcome you all to New Hall School for the 13th annual New Hall Colts Festival. With the Festival attracting a number of top rugby-playing schools, this promises to be a thoroughly competitive day. With the excitement of returning to competitive sport across the schools, we hope we can finally tackle the last year and a half of interrupting in player development firmly into touch. The variation of the game this year with the RFU guidelines is progressive in nature and helps to build in awareness and safety of players. Thank you for making the effort to travel to New Hall and I hope you have an enjoyable and exciting day of rugby.

Groups Refreshments Refreshments and snacks are available to purchase throughout the day at the Good Hope café (location marked as ‘Refreshments’ on the booklet map). Burgers will be provided for coaches and players, which will be brought to the changing rooms at 12.30pm.

The format will be 2 stages. 3 pools of 3 teams in round robin first stage. Then, depending on placing in first stage, will have 3 tiered groups for round robin (Red, Yellow & Green). No winners overall but will allow for appropriate level of competition into the second stage.

Tournament Rules •
Matches will be played under New Rules of Play (NROP) for U10. • The Laws of the Tournament, including their interpretation and any additional Laws, Rules and Regulations, are at the sole discretion of the Tournament Organiser (Mr D Cummins), whose decision shall be final. • The Colts is an 8-aside tournament with no more than 12 players allowed in each squad. • Each match lasts 12 minutes one way. Rolling substitutions will apply throughout the event. Replacements/substitutions must be made with the referee’s permission and be made only when there is a stoppage or the ball is out of play. • In the event of a sending off, the player may not be allowed to play again in the tournament and the team plays with 7 players for the rest of the game. The team may start the next game with 8 players. • The sin-bin will be used throughout the tournament. A player sin-binned shall remain at the half-way line under referee control for 2 minutes. • A win in a match will earn that team 5 points and a drawn match will earn each team 3 points. • A bonus point will be awarded for teams scoring 4 or more tries in a game. • A bonus point will be awarded to the losing team if they are within 1 score of the winning team. • In the event of a tie in the group table after the matches have been played, the team with the highest number of tries will take the higher position. If this is level, the team that has conceded the least tries will take the higher position. If the teams are still tied, the result of the match(es) between the teams will be taken into account. If there is still no way of splitting the teams, the position will be shared and the result based on the toss of a coin. All team managers and members of staff will be responsible for the following: • • • •
All players’ kit and valuables The behaviour of all players on and off the field of play The behaviour of all accompanying spectators Possessing an alternate strip
