Dance ‘Everything in the universe has rhythm. Everything dances’ Maya Angelou
Ballet - with short barre and centre work, age appropriate stretches, basic positions of the legs and arms. Balance, hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping – basic locomotor movements. Pupils will learn ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance, and flexibility. This is not a Graded lesson and examination work will only be taught on a Saturday. Contemporary Dance - this is expressing emotion through organic movements and unrestricted lines. Incorporating elements of lyrical Jazz, Ballet and Modern dance, Contemporary is an exciting fusion which allows pupils to work through powerful and emotional routines. Lyrical Dance - is a dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics, and modern dance. According to Jennifer Fisher, lyrical dance is “strongly associated with clearly displayed emotional moods, fast-moving choreographic strategies, emphasis on virtuosic display, illustration of song lyrics, and, in group form, exact unison. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz. Lyrical dance is a category typically found in dance competitions Tap - is designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Pupils will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, co-ordination, and speed of movement. This is not a Graded lesson and examination work will only be taught on a Saturday. Grade dance classes – Pupils must have reached this level to join this class. Classes are taught the ISTD examination syllabus work in Modern and Tap and Cecchetti examination syllabus work of the Ballet lessons. Street Dance - is graceful, powerful and will challenge your body. It is a freestyle dance: throughout the course you will explore several different styles of street dance and begin building the vocabulary of movement to help you learn to freestyle with confidence and flair. Jazz - will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Pupils will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer

String Ensemble - Years 3-6 Open to pupils in these year groups by invitation to check for suitability. Please enquire if unsure or interested. Liturgical Choir - Years 5 & 6 By invitation. Please enquire if interested. Choir - Years 3-6 A mixed ability group open to all students in these year groups exploring a range of traditional and contemporary music. Training Orchestra - Years 5 & 6 Instrumental ensemble open to students who are earlier in their musical development. Being above Grade 1 standard is a requirement.
