Jazz Evening On Wednesday 22 May, the annual Jazz Evening took place in the North Room. With an array of performers, it was an joyous evening of music. Congratulations and thanks to all our performers who gave us so much to enjoy and admire. It was wonderful to see students from Year 6 through to Year 13 joining with professional musicians to create a unique musical event.
370TH ANNIVERSARY CD ‘A Chapter in the Story’, a CD recording of music to celebrate the 370th anniversary of the founding of the New Hall Community and School, is now available to buy for £10.00 from Mrs Warren. To purchase a copy of the CD, contact Mrs Warren on a.warren@newhallschool.co.uk or 01245 467 588.
The Jazz Evening followed a beautiful Guitar Evening on Tuesday 21 May, with the Williams/Kelleher Duo.
EXTENDED PROJECTS Hanik Kotecha (Year 13) has completed an Extended Project on the subject of the economic and social impacts of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. In considering the economic impacts, it was noted that the South African economy has grown considerably since the World Cup and the recession, with GDP having reached $460bn. Hanik linked this growth to the World Cup, particularly citing the effects of infrastructure investment such as the Gautrain and the King Shaka International Airport. In terms of social impact, there was a short term effect of crime reduction, but these improvements were not found to have been sustained. It was concluded, therefore, that there was no long term social impact for the average South African.
LUNCHTIME CONCERT A celebration of the piano took place at Wednesday’s lunchtime concert. The concert featured performances by Gabriella Adams (Year 9) who began with At Sunset by Schmitz, this was followed by Jacob Tan (Year 10) performing Sonata in B by Antonio Soler. The German Dance in A by Schubert was performed by Fay Archer (Year 10) and the concert was brought to an end with Sophie Morrish’s (Year 8) performance of Clementi’s Sonatina in F. There will be more lunchtime concerts after half term. Thanks also go to Stephanie Lee (Year 11) and Gabriella Adams (Year 9) for their piano performances before this week’s assemblies.
Extended and Higher project qualifications are available to all students at New Hall, whatever their Year Group. Further information may be obtained from Mr Yates.
