From the Director’s Chair On behalf of the entire company, welcome to this evening’s performance of the show based on the toe-tapping sensational film that took the world by storm, and containing some of the biggest hits of the decade, Footloose!

The show tells the story of city boy, Ren, who thinks life is bad enough when he’s forced to move to a sleepy, rural backwater in America. His world comes to a standstill when he arrives in Bomont to find dancing and rock music have been banned.

Taking matters into his own hands, he soon has the whole town on its feet. Footloose sizzles with spirit, fun and choreography, not to mention the classic 80s’ hits such as Holding Out for A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It for The Boy and of course the unforgettable title track, Footloose. Through it all is a powerful message that music and faith can go hand in hand to bring hope and restoration in the face of seemingly unending sadness or insurmountable problems.

This has been a truly collaborative effort between Drama, Music and Dance departments and I am grateful to Mr Turner, Mr McPhee and Miss Playle, in particular but to all those involved from the costume team to the stage crew to the administrative staff. It has been a privilege to work alongside you and thank you for your patience and creative energy.

Finally, thanks to the students who have embraced this show and given it their all.

They have kept up the fight during some tough times and come out stronger as a result.

So, get into the groove and for those who can remember them, relive those 1980’s bomber jackets, leg warmers and faded jeans, or perhaps the neon dresses, matching shell suits or puffed shoulders.

At the end of one of the strangest periods in living memory, the message rings out that there is a “time to mourn and a time to dance”. May you dance like never before, not just this evening, but throughout the summer months and beyond. Thank you for your support and presence.
