MYERS BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR
By Line Imad
MBTI stands for Myers- Briggs Type indicator.
This theory was created by Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Jung in 1920. Jung studied how each individual behaves and interacts in different social situations according to their personality traits. Katherine Cooks -Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers, were impressed by the work of Carl Jung, so they created the MYER-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR in 1962.
The MBTI was designed to improve people's productivity in accordance with their own personality.
Individuals are divided into 2 groups according to the way they receive and direct their energies:
Directing and receiving energy.
1. Extroversion: people who have an extrovert personality receive their energy when they are around people. They are friendly and spontaneous. An extrovert person thinks out loud.
For example, while sending a message on WhatsApp they use the voice message instead of writing.
2. Introversion: people with an introvert personality recharge their batteries by themselves. They gain their energy alone.
People have different ways of acquiring information regarding their personality traits depending on how they perceive and analyze things around them, by using their senses and intuitions.
: people who grasp information through their 5 senses, are creative and realistic, they are conscious in the here and individuals that have a sense of intuition follow facts, and they are well structured. They are detail oriented in filtering information.
: people who favor thinking and analyzing are more logical in how they receive the information around them. They take decisions using their analytical and problem- people with a perceiving personality interact with the outside world in a different way by being spontaneous and nonchalant.
: Sensitive people rely on their feelings when analyzing information, making judgments in various situations and making decisions in general. These individuals have an emotional perception of the outside world, meaning that they are compassionate, have empathy and are well aware of people’s individuality.
: people with a sense of judging the outside world have a totally different way of interacting and digesting information. They are more organized in their decision making. They implement a scheme and follow it. For instance, such people get irritated and stress out when plans are changed at the last minute.
