Rudd Pond

Harlem Valley Rail Trail

The Rudd Pond area of Taconic State Park is located in Millerton, NY along the Taconic Mountain Range in northeastern Dutchess County. The park shares a border with Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Harlem Valley Rail Trail is a beautiful paved wooded pathway along the former New York & Harlem Railroad corridor that is accessible to users of many types and abilities.

Consisting of more then 6,000 acres of forested land with an extensive trail system that provides spectacular views of the Taconic, Berkshire and Catskill Mountain Ranges and the Hudson Valley. Rudd Pond is a 64 acre lake that offers swimming, fishing, rowboat, canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals.

Overall, the trail is bucolic and easygoing throughout.

The asphalt pavement is well maintained and mostly flat.

Scenery is generally wooded, though the path passes through a variety of landscapes, including wetlands, creeks, some open grasslands, tree farms, and farmland.

Besides camping and hiking other popular activities include swimming, picnicking, boating on Rudd Pond, bicycling and roller blading on the rail trail, fishing and hunting.

Prevailing wage applies as per M.G.L. Chapter 149, Section 26 to 27F and a wage schedule is included with the specifications. A 100% performance bond is required of successful bidder, 5% bond required with bid. Contractor must be pre-qualified by Mass DOT. IRCHWOOD INN has been welcoming friends, new and old, for 240 years.

The property which is now Birchwood Inn was the first residential property in Lenox deeded by the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1765. The core of this house was built by Israel Dewey before the Revolutionary War started. In those early years the house served as an inn. The home has changed hands many times over the years, and all of the inn's guest rooms are named in honor of some of the former residents.

The home has been altered an enlarged several times over the past two centuries and reflects several different styles. The original structure, which forms the core of the present inn, was a simple vernacular farmhouse. An etching of Lenox dating from circa 1840 shows the home as already a substantial property at the top of the hill.

In the 1960s and 70s, the house was a home for World War II veterans. The inn has been host to a ghost or two. Many guest have heard what sounds like a cat crying in The Loring Room, Wagner Room's poltergeist likes to move things around.

Birchwood has welcomed guests from 47 states, seven Canadian provinces plus the Northwest Territories, six of the seven continents, and 28 countries, including Turkey, Dubai, and Iceland.

A New Front Porch and Guest Bath are some of the work Morrisons has done at the Inn.
