Abstraction in Light & Shadow

Abstraction in Light & Shadow
Ann Hosfeld
NOVEMBER 28, 2025 - JANUARY 11, 2026

After studying under abstract expressionists in New York City, Ann Hosfeld moved to Los Angeles, where she found artistic inspiration in the abundant tropical plants. Trips to Mexico led her to start painting banana leaves. The bold play of light and shadow created by the giant leaves often led to the creation of richly abstracted paintings. Over time, she studied and painted a wide variety of botanical subjects, with a particular focus on the agave plants she photographed in Arizona.
Ann Hosfeld opened New Concept Gallery in the fall of 2007. The gallery is focused on showcasing the work of contemporary New Mexican artists.
