While many of us have seen our lives disrupted by the constraints of the pandemic, Douglas Atwill’s routine has remained much as it has been for years: Mornings are spent painting in his studio, and afternoons and evenings are spent writing and tending to his extensive gardens. His disciplined approach to creativity allows him to complete fifty or more paintings each year. Painting in acrylic on primed linen canvases, Atwill’s distinctive brushstrokes and vibrant palette are instantly recognizable to those familiar with his work. His paintings of southwestern landscapes, mountain meadows and serene gardens are found in private collections, museums and corporate collections throughout the country.
Mr. Atwill is also well known in Santa Fe for his work as a designer and builder. He is the author of over a dozen books, including novels, short stories, memoirs and poetry.
