RECREATION S WIM GUIDELINES:

Please read prior to your visit.

Traditional swim attire is required in all pools. The intent of enforcing a swim suit policy is to maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment for all patrons. Clothing other than swim wear can cause problems with water clarity, disinfection systems, and filtration.

Anyone entering the water MUST be in a TRADITIONAL SWIMSUIT. A traditional swimsuit is one purchased for the sole purpose of swimming. A plain white t-shirt may be worn over a traditional swim suit and are available for purchase at the front desk.

Deck chairs are for sitting only. Personal items may NOT to be stored on chairs. Priority for seating will be given to those with disabilities, senior citizens, and expecting and/or nursing mothers.

REGISTRATION CLOSES:

MON/WED CLASSES: THURSDAY BEFORE AT 12:00 PM TUES/THURS CLASSES: FRIDAY BEFORE AT 12:00 PM SATURDAY CLASSES: TUESDAY BEFORE AT 12:00 PM

Refund/Makeup Policy:

Due to the popularity of our program, we have a strict refund policy. You have 24 hours from the time of registration in which to request a refund (all refunds have a $15 processing fee), or transfer to another time/session (based on class availability). After 24 hours, there are no refunds given. Transfer may be granted up to 3 business days prior to the session starting if space is available. Transfers require a $15 processing fee.

Please note: There are NO make-up classes and/or credits/refunds for any classes missed due to accident, injury, illness, or personal scheduling conflicts. Doctor’s notes will not be accepted.

Swim Lesson Policy/Proficiency

All swimmers age 5 and under must have a parent or guardian on the deck with them. Only participating children 5 and under and one parent may enter the pool deck. Swimmers 6 to 17 years of age will not be allowed an adult on the deck and must have a completed waiver on file.

Students must have a specific mastery of the skills/proficiency before moving to the next level, as well as meet all the exit skill requirements. Proficiency is determined by staff and your child may be moved to a more appropriate level class. Classes may be combined due to class registration and staffing.

Combination Levels

In order to better transition from one level to the next, we are now offering combination classes that incorporate skills from two consecutive levels. Please see Preschool and Youth lessons for class information.

The Silliman Family Activity and Aquatic Center provides the highest quality of swim instruction available. We look at swim instruction as a necessary life skill and want to make swimming an enjoyable lifelong activity for you and your family. Lessons are tailored to age and skill within a set level system. If after reading the level descriptions, you are unsure which level your child should be in, please schedule a swim level assessment by emailing Aquatic Coordinator Stacy Burton at stacy.burton@newark.org

AGES 6 MONTHS - 35 MONTHS

This interactive class requires a parent participant in the water (in a swimsuit) with the child. We recommend the same parent throughout the session. The instructor will lead the parents through a variety of skills to teach their child. The parent is the primary instructor for their child. Children must wear a swim diaper under their suit. The class is designed to get the child comfortable in the water and to begin to work on entry-level swim readiness skills.
