**Infants/Toddlers are required to wear a swim diaper when entering the Aquatic Center. We will provide the swim diaper. We will not waive the swim diaper fee if you provide your own. Children MUST be accompanied by a paying adult. Multi-Use Passes: We have a variety of allinclusive passes from Youth to Senior including 20-visit, 1-Month, 3 month, 6 month, 12 month, and summer season passes. Passes are nontransferable, non-refundable, and non-extendable. Pass fees can be found on our website at www. newark.org.

SWIMWEAR GUIDELINES: In order to maintain a clean, safe, and inviting environment for all guests, TRADITIONAL SWIM ATTIRE IS REQUIRED IN ALL POOLS, NO EXCEPTIONS. A PLAIN, WHITE T-SHIRT MAY BE WORN OVER A TRADITIONAL SWIM SUIT (available for purchase at the front desk). Any guest without appropriate swimwear will be asked to exit the pool. Clothing other than swim wear can negatively affect water quality and our pool’s disinfection and filtration systems.

DECK CHAIRS ARE FOR SITTING ONLY. Personal items may NOT to be stored on chairs. Storage bins are provided under all chairs for personal items. Silliman staff reserve the right to remove any personal items from chairs. Priority for seating will be given to those with disabilities, senior citizens, and expecting and/or nursing mothers. The City of Newark and the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center is not responsible for lost and or stolen items. This includes items left at the center after your visit. No compensation for lost, left or stolen items will be provided.

Held in our newly created Game Zone! The space that has the most to offer with a wide range of games! Room features the exclusive use of 2 pool tables, ping pong table, foosball, air hockey table, lounge area with gaming systems! This room does not have access to the pool deck; thus, entrance to recreation swim is scheduled before or after your party room time. All guest (adults & children, swimming or not) are included in the final headcount. Prices are not prorated or changed if guest count is below the room capacity.

Community Meeting Room With a capacity of up to 80 people, the room is ideal for meetings, seminars, and training programs. Features of the room include use of a large 80” T V, portable projector and retractable screen for computer based presentations and training programs, wireless microphone system, and an adjacent kitchenette with sink, refrigerator, and microwave. Group Rental Space: $130R/$140NR

Receive a designated area on the pool deck that includes admission up to 10 people. Group space has a picnic table and benches for your visit! Additional, guest require a fee after ten Guest. A $100 Deposit is required that will be refunded minus any damage or other charges incurred during visit.

Premium Family Cabana: $110R/$120NR

Our latest addition of a Premium Family Cabana comes furnished with two comfortable Chaise loungers, two armchairs, drink cooler in a secluded environment on the pool deck for five people. Additionally, you will have access to a cabana host within the first hour of reservation to assist with food orders from Ollie’s Poolside Café. A $100 Deposit is required that will be refunded minus any damage or other charges incurred during visit.

2018 COUGARS GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP For Ages 7-15 June 25 – 29 (Monday – Friday) Silliman Activity Center Gymnasium 9:00 am – 12 Noon $90 resident, $99 non-resident Areas of focus will be placed on shooting, moving without the ball, passing, ball-handling & 1-on-1 moves, listening skills, footwork/agility, and individual & team defense. Each player will have the opportunity to improve her skills and develop an increased enjoyment for the game of basketball. The camper-to-coach counselor ratio will be approximately 6:1. Campers will be divided into ‘3-On-3’ and ‘5-On-5’ teams by age and ability to ensure that each player will have the opportunity to work on skills that pertain to their level of play. Players will be challenged on a daily basis. Campers will have chances to win awards and daily prizes. The camp will be directed by Darryl Reina, Newark Memorial Girl’s Varsity Basketball Head Coach, Staff, & Players.

CAMP SPLASH & DASH! This camp is not your traditional day camp! With Camp Splash & Dash! We want to ensure a complete summer camp experience! Our camp philosophy is that children should be active, engaged, and most importantly having FUN. We offer this by providing a structured environment that includes a morning swim lesson, water safety topic, or other water sports such as inner tube water polo! During the afternoon campers will transition to outdoor and indoor play with team building activities, recreation swimming, art and crafts and much more! Your campers won’t want to leave by the end of the day. Snacks are provided in the morning and afternoon including a healthy lunch from Olie’s Poolside Cafe; it is recommended that campers bring their own sunscreen to be applied that meets their needs for SPF protection. All campers should be comfortable in the water and be able to swim without any assistance with the use of a lifejacket or camp counselor. JUNIOR LIFEGUARD CAMP (Ages 11-14) Participants learn a variety of skills from water safety fundamentals, stroke refinement, swim instruction, and job skills! This course is designed for those interested in exploring what it takes to be a lifeguard and swim instructor! At the end of the course, participants will be invited to interview for the Junior Lifeguard/Swim Instructor volunteer program at the Silliman Family Aquatics Center). Pre-requisites: Al participants will be required to take a swim test on the first day! Participants must have the ability to continuously swim 50 yards (2 laps). The HOOP IT UP Camp is packed with skills, drills and daily competitions! This camp is designed to make your child a better basketball player. AIR ATTACK FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP These non-contact Flag Football programs are great for boys and girls. Players are grouped by age and ability and every camper gets to learn QB, receiver, running back and defensive skills. KIDZ LOVE SOCCER CAMP Spend a week enjoying the world’s most popular sport in a fun, recreational environment. Learn and practice core soccer skills like dribbling, passing & receiving, shooting and defense. Everyone is a winner as the week’s fun culminates in an age -appropriate “World Cup” tournament. Public Speaking and DEBATE SKILLS Building confidence in children so they can express in group setting has immeasurable benefits in their school, personal and professional lives. The students in this program learn how to manage public speaking anxiety, present themselves with confidence, bring emotions, and connect with the audience fluently. In the debate portion of the module they learn how to make strong arguments by providing reasoning and evidence, creating a foundation of critical thinking and essentials of debating. With lot of thought-provoking and stimulating topics and exciting activities to write and speak, it improves their confidence, communication and general knowledge. Public Speaking: BUILDING CONFIDENCE This course teaches young students the essentials of building confidence in public speaking. Taught using the fun concepts of (don’t) show and tell, storytelling (scary and funny stories!), reciting poems, pretend games, this is an excellent class to start developing confidence in young students in a fun way. The participants learn how to stand tall and speak confidently in front of a group. They begin to understand the concepts and importance of maintaining eye contact, good posture, volume and expressions. PERSONAL FINANCE: Spending and Saving Middle school is an excellent time to start learning about money management! It helps in creating a foundation for students to become financially independent in the future. Since there are no courses about financial literacy in our K-12 curriculum, and it is an essential skill to have, students must seek supplement education. Our personal finance series is the solution. This module covers how to spend and save wisely, how to apply strategies to monitor income and expenses, and how to plan to spend or save for future goals. It also has fun hands on projects teaching students comparison shopping, how to create a budget, understand the influence of advertising on spending habits among many other. PUBLIC SPEAKING -CONFIDENT SPEAKERS AND WRITERS This is an extremely helpful course that teaches young students how to present and write speeches, poems and stories in six easy steps. The students learn how to structure their many ideas and express them with confidence. When children are actively engaged in hands-on, interactive learning activities, their creativity flourishes and they show a greater interest in school. Snapology engages children using LEGO® bricks, K’Nex and technology. While the kids are having fun building and being creative, we sneak in the educational concepts. This interactive class is for parents and their little swimmers! Our experienced instructor will guide you through a variety of swimming techniques to teach your child. By using songs, games, and equipment, instructors will introduce floating skills, breath control, gentle submersions, and survival skills. This is an instructor-led class, and a parent or guardian 18+ years of age is required to be in the water with the child in a swimsuit. Children must wear a swim diaper under their swimsuit. Upon successful completion or age advancement, the swimmer will move into the Preschool Swim Lesson program. Instructor/Student Ratio = 1:10

This class is designed for those who are comfortable underwater but need help swimming laps efficiently. We will develop a solid foundation of swimming skills, focusing on technique and gracefulness. Freestyle will be the main focus with a lot concentration of proper breathing and balance in the water. Additionally, you’ll be introduced to the other variety of swim strokes such as breaststroke, backstroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke. As this is a national certification and can be quite rigorous for some, candidates must pass all elements of the course to become certified. Summer Preschool is the beginning of a lifetime of learning! Our program offers a wide variety of hands on, open-ended activities to include: arts, crafts, outside adventures, and water play. Children are learning preschool curriculum, but in a less structured environment than our school-year program. Program Expectations: It is expected that children enrolling are ready to separate from parents and be able to fully participate in class. Children must be completely potty trained (no pull-up). Helper Day: For each child enrolled, parents are required to actively assist the instructor and provide snack and/or beverage once during the session. Parents will be billed a $45 fee per enrolled child for missed day. Providing snack/beverage is required for those parents paying the $45 helper day fee. These short sessions are terrific for new students! Ballet/Lyrical: In this class, participants learn the basic principles of ballet. This class will consist of barre and center floor work. Participants need pink or white ballet shoes. Contemporary: In this class dancers will learn beginning to intermediate level of contemporary dance, a style of dance that combines ballet and modern dance techniques, while exploring their creativity. Jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern shoes, and socks are all appropriate foot wear for class. Dance Combo: This class will introduce the beginning and intermediate level dancer to a combination of tap, ballet, acrobatic and contemporary dance. Dancers will need tap and ballet shoes. Hit a grandslam this summer in our Junior Giants Baseball program. Players of all abilities will learn the true meaning of teamwork while competing against evenly balanced teams. All players will receive a t-shirt and cap. A pitching machine and special rules will be used to insure safe play for 7 – 13 year olds, while 5 – 6 years olds play T-ball. There will be one practice per week, on Tuesday or Thursday depending on your division. Games will be be on Saturday mornings. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN This class is designed to reward dogs who have good manners and stresses responsible pet ownership and basic good manners for dogs. All Summer Adult Classes are offered as “ALL Level” classes. Various levels of technique and choreography will be offered in each class. THE FREMONT PARATRANSIT PROGRAM PROVIDES LOWCOST, DOOR-TO-DOOR, SHARED RIDE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES FOR ELIGIBLE NEWARK RESIDENTS THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY OF NEWARK AND THE CITY OF FREMONT’S HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT. Who is Eligible? Newark residents unable to use public transportation (AC Transit buses or BART trains) independently due to a disability or disabling health condition OR Newark residents 70 years of age or older. Service Area & Hours: Rides are available to and from destinations in Fremont, Newark and Union City, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm. Limited rides are available Saturday & Sunday, 9:00am-3:00pm. Fares: A pre-paid voucher ($2.50) is used per one-way trip. Vouchers are sold for $20 per book. Vouchers can be purchased by mail or in person through the City of Fremont Human Services Department. Newark Recreation and Community Services has over 50 years of experience providing quality programs for children. We set minimum age requirements for each of our classes in order to provide the safest and most enjoyable program for your child. Enrolled children must be the minimum age by the first day of class. For grade level specifications, we do not promote children to the next grade level until the official school year begins.

A Word About Department Wait-lists

Newark Recreation and Community Services Department provides customers wait-list opportunities in the event that your class of choice is full. Should an opening occur, you will receive a phone call, at which time you will have 24 hours to respond. Should we not hear from you within the 24 hours, you will forfeit that space and we will move to the next waitlist customer. Placement on the wait-list does not guarantee registration in the next session.

Late Pick-Up Fee

We reserve the right to assess a late fee on any of our programs that have a specific ending time. The fee of $1 per minute ($5 minimum) will be charged for those participants not picked up by the scheduled ending time.

Missed Classes/Make-Up Policy

We do not offer credits, refunds, or make-up classes when you miss a program day. Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to do this with the amount of programs that we offer. Additionally, we would have to increase the fees for all of our programs if we were to do this and we want to make sure we keep our prices affordable to the community.

Refund Policy: I f yo u w i s h to c a n ce l yo u r registration, refunds are possible only if you notify us at least five (5) business days before the activity begins. A charge of $15 or 50% of the registration fee (whichever is less) applies to refunds. Not all programs adhere to this refund policy.

Scholarships will provide 75% of the program fee; registrant is responsible for the remaining 25% of the fee. : Limit: $300 per person per fiscal year (July-June) and $1000 per family per fiscal year (July-June). Register in-person at the Silliman Activity Center. Some programs are exempt from scholarships. Additional criteria may apply.
